Humans

Humans are well, human and they usually believe that they are at the centre of most things. This is no different in Meridiana City as those without knowledge of the supernatural don't believe it exists. Human who do or know of the darker side of life, unfortunately are never on the right side. All humans can use magic Although some who are better off than others usually last much longer in the world. Though humans are actually more diverse than one would think in the supernatural sense.

Vampires

As the immortal undead, vampires must consume the blood or plasma of living creatures to survive. Vampires prefer to drink human blood over animal, but both will do. The history of the vampire race is shrouded in mystery as their beginnings are not known. Many theorise that all vampires are descended from a single, solitary vampire often referred to as The Source or The Great Maker. This vampire is often thought to be Cain, who murdered his brother Abel. This sin in turn transformed Cain into the first vampire. There have been many vampires who have claimed to be the first one.

Becoming a vampire
Since vampires are undead, they are unable to reproduce or conceive in any natural method. So in order to propagate their numbers, vampires must use a supernatural method known as Making/Siring. This process involves the victim to have their body almost drained of their blood. Enough for them to be close to death, but keep the heart barely beating. Then the vampire feed their own blood to the victim, where the victim promptly dies and changes within a matter of minutes into a vampire. Though the process is a painful one as the body essentially dies. Once transformed, the newly created vampire must feed within the first hour or so or risk becoming a ghoul.

Vampire Power List
Heightened Senses
Touch, smell, sight, taste and hearing are all greatly heightened to almost superhuman. Vampires also possess keen night-vision.
Enhanced strength
Is just what it says on the tin. Strength beyond that of a human, enough to be able to lift maybe three times their own weight or more. Although this is an ability that is defined by the vampires age.
Enhanced speed
Same with enhanced strength, this allows vampires to move at incredible speeds. Appearing as if to have teleported or even a blur to those who can see them. Much older vampires have also been known to leave an after-image, and much older vampire appear to teleport.
Hypnosis
A vampire has the ability to hypnotize other human beings. In order to do this their victim must stare into the eyes of the vampire. Once the vampire drinks blood from their victim on at least one occasion, he is able to exert this power at will. Once this is done, the victim will fall into a trance and the vampire can command the thrall to do its bidding.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity is the vampire ability of the mind from telepathy to seeing ghosts and the dead. Most vampires can see ghosts and use telepathy.
Regeneration
Despite being undead monsters, vampires have an apt ability to regenerate themselves from injury. This is however conditional on the vampires heart not being destroyed or that they are not beheaded. In fact, the only vampire who can't die from beheading is the Great Maker himself. Also vampires and reattach lost limbs, but can not regrow them.
Flight/Transformation
Not all vampires are granted the abilities of flight and transformation. In fact, it is seen as a very rare trait in the vampire world often reserved for oldest of the old vampires.

Weaknesses
Fatal
These will always destroy a vampire, no ifs or buts.
Sunlight
Direct and sustained contact in sunlight can cause a vampire to burst into flames. Much older vampires will burn faster than younger ones. This weakness can, however be counteracted by powerful and dangerous spells or the mysterious and legendary ''Sun-Stone''. Also incantations can be said to repel the affects of the sun, but the vampire must say them constantly. So it's not really option, unless you wish to look like a babbling lunatic who's constantly smouldering. Vampires often sleep during the day in coffins.
Staking
A stake through a vampire’s heart will cause a vampire to die, just like any other creature would die from something sharp and pointy through the heart.
Werewolf blood
Blood tainted with Lycanthropy is as dangerous to vampires as arsenic is to humans. Except werewolf blood burns vampire skin and if drunk will kill.
Beheading and Dismemberment
Beheading a vampire and then dismembering the beheaded corpse is enough to effectively kill a vampire.
Non-Fatal
These weaknesses are more of an inconvenience.
Necromancy
Simply put, Death Magic. Since vampires are the un-dead, they are vulnerable to magic's that give a person power over death. However, only a very powerful practitioner of Death Magic could successfully control a vampire.
The Invitation
There was a time when vampires didn't need invitations to enter a household, that was until one vampire pissed off a very powerful witch. She cast a curse down upon the vampire race as a whole, taking away their right to enter homes uninvited. Also, not just anyone can invite in a vampire it must be the householder. So children can't be tricked into inviting a dangerous vampire into their home. Also, the invitation can also be rescinded however; anyone in household can do this. If a vampire manages to enter without being invited then said vampire will face pain beyond belief followed by the slow agonising burning of flesh as it begin to melt away. Vampires older than a thousand years can forfeit this weakness.
Ties to life
Although not a deadly weakness, a vampire's tie to life can make the sanest vampire dangerous. These ''ties to life'' are often the vampire's still living lovers/relatives which can cause the vampire serious emotional distress. Often the first act of a newly created vampire is too severe these ties in an act of referred to as the 'Severance of Life' and by severance, we do mean kill.

Please seeGROUPS AND ORGANISATIONS for current vampire groups.

Werewolves

Often described as a lesser species, werewolves are humans who are cursed with Lycanthropy. Lycanthropy forced those infected to transform into a large, bipedal wolf like creature. Once transformed they cannot see friend from foe and will attack indiscriminately. However, there are ways around this. Seen as the perfect slave race besides humans, Werewolves are often used as daytime guards for vampires.

Becoming a werewolf

The Bite
Lycanthropy can only be passed on through the bite or scratch of another werewolf. Werewolves CAN NOT be born and Lycanthropy is not a dormant gene or skips a generation. In truth, nobody truly knows where it came from, though some suspect a demonic origin.

The Transformation
Pre-change:
Once bitten it only takes a couple of days for the curse to take a hold on the body. The minor changes it makes can only be noticed to those who are looking for them. Such changes as a rise in natural body temperature, faster reflexes and heightened senses. Males werewolves may also suffer from excessive hair growth randomly, while female werewolves might go into heat every so often.

Non-Full Moon change:
Outside of a full moon, werewolves can only transform into semi-wolf like creature similar to this. Though even this is a painful process. In this form they gain enhanced speed and strength enough even to combat a vampire.

Full Moon change:
The Full Moon change is another thing altogether. The sway of the full moon causes werewolves to change into a more monstrous and wolf like form. It will look something like this, however each form is different to the other.

Weaknesses
Werewolves don't have as many weaknesses as Vampires, in fact they truly only have one major weakness, and a few minor ones.

About Magic

Witchcraft Abilities: (These are all abilities those who practice witchcraft have.) The use of witchcraft can also extend a person's life beyond the normal age range. Some Warlocks and Witches have lived up to 300 years old through spells and magic.
General Powers:
These are the kinds of powers one doesn't have to be born into a witch family for them to be able to use.

  • Astral Projection: Astral Projection is the ability to project one's spirit into the spirit plan or to another location when in R.E.M. sleep or deep meditation. One will be as a ghost during this process and the body would vulnerable.
  • Cursing:Cursing is the act of placing a curse upon a person or objects. It is considered a negative form of magic and is only used by a dark-magic user. Cursing a person with Vampirsim and Lycanthropy is considered illegal in the magic community, punishable by death if caught.
  • Conjuration: The act of calling, commanding, or summoning an object, person, or spirit already in existence.
  • Energy Blasts: A form of raw magic that can be used in battle with other supernatural creatures and other witchcraft users.
  • Familiar Connection: Most Witches and Warlocks keep either a cat, rodent or black feathered bird as a familiar. Familiar connection magic is the soul resonance a witch or warlock has with their familiar. This magic and soul resonance allows them to see and hear through the animal and in turn, gives the animal a means of communication to its master/mistress. (Please note, this magic can only be used on familiars who are bonded with their owners. Use on any other living creature is dangerous.)
  • Flight: By enchanting an object, most commonly a broom of some sort, a witch or warlock can use it for personal flight. Or they just enchant themselves or their clothing.
  • Mediumship: The act of calling, communicating, and invoking the spirits of the dead.
  • Necromancy: The act of controlling and manipulating the spirits of the dead. Powerful Witches and Warlocks can control vampires.
  • Spell Casting: The act of changing and controlling events by invoking words of magic. Usually a dead language such as Latin is used, (Yes Potter spells can be cast lol)
  • Voodoo: The act of controlling and manipulating the body, mind, and soul of another person through the use of dolls and wax figures. An often frowned upon kind of magic by most witches and warlocks.

Blood-line Powers: These are powers only available to witches and warlocks born into a witch family. The powers will be gained at random upon the witch or Warlocks 13th birthday

  • Shape-shifting: The ability to take on the form of another human and or animal after having seen it. Shape-shifting also comes with risks, since it can do disastrously wrong if not practised and perfected.
  • Telekinesis: The act of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons. This is a skill a witch often learns later on in life.
  • Teleportation: The act of transporting one or more peoples and or objects to another location by thought.
