January, 1110 S.A The Baron Melo di Astamari, the Baron of Astamari in Rheiloghi, a man of little renown and power had made his way to the Republic, hoping to find some assistance. He has had some trouble dealing with a nest of harpies that has plagued the hillside of his estate for sometime. His Knights too cowardice to face the harpies themselves offered coin instead of service for the task. Legally he was obligated to accept their coin which left him little options but to find folk willing for the job. His first stop was the nearby Republic, a hive of such honorless men. Later that day... The lure worked and the harpies were easily baited away from their nest en mass. Their numbers while superior were no where near an overwhelming horde however the ability still provided them an advantage even away from their nest. Had Magkahn and his comrade been of lesser expertise then the battle might have looked grim but victory was practically ensured when the beasts abandoned their homes. Quick blades and expert strikes brought the winged terrors down as they descended towards their would-be prey, but failing to find their marks in any of their attacks. It seemed like no time at all when the last of the beasts laid dead on the ground, pools of blood decorating the ground with them. There was still a chance that some harpies remained in the surrounding area but hunting down stray monsters could prove impossible especially if they feared extermination similar to what had befallen their kin. Magkahn marched into the ticket with the smell of fresh harpy blood still in his senses and quickly destroyed and burnt what little there was of the nest before returning to. The Orc returned to the cottage to find the Baron passed out with a mess of cheese upon his features. He awoke startled at the loud thumps as the bloody hired men marched upon him to claim their reward. "Ah ahem, Master Orc. It is good to see you return. Unharmed I presume? Well regardless, from the looks of you have dealt with my harpy issue." The Baron quickly produced a pouch from his belt and tossed the heavy sack onto the table, untying the small rope keeping it shut to show the currency to his employees. "Thirty-five florins, as promised. Feel free to count it if you are so inclined and then be on your way. I'll have to have some servants clean up the mess you've left around here..." |
