It might be a good idea to sponsor our own acting troupe, like the Ember Island players. I assume Ember Island is more like the mecca of Fire Nation acting talent (weird as that is) and that the capital has local players to keep the nobility entertained. Have them put on historical plays of, among other things, the Blue Spirit. |

Why would it? It's a volcano spirit that spends most of its time in a volcano. It knows about other spirits, being an inhabitant of a spirit world, but why would it know anything about an exotic half-mythical creature inhabiting thunderstorms ad most likely nesting atop frozen mountains that are nowhere near any volcanoes? |

Because it would be a basic piece of knowledge about what children of one of the great spirits had. Even though she's a Fire Spirit, you'd think that knowing that kind of thing would be sensible, even if just to learn about potential threats. IF she doesn't know, it's not like we've lost anything. Thinking about it I believe, we should keep the fact that Azula can Airbend a secret. If it became public knowledge, that making deals with spirits can grant bend abilities. Their would be an unavoidable upswing, in people trying to make deals with spirits. |

I'm tempted to keep the fact that Azula can airbend a secret. I'm more than happy to make it very public that be gained Raijin's blessing for our lightning bending though. It's something we could do already, and it looks much more like a particular blessing of the Fire Nation royal family. It also looks much less like a deal. Edited by Alratan, Feb 10 2013, 01:39 PM.

We didn't make a deal. We received, after a very hard trial that was the culmknation of years of work an attention and favor of Agni's peer. There is a huge difference. And people already know that deals with spirits can grant power - see the stories of how our not buddy offered "super-effective training" in his benevolent persona. |

Azula wont be a master lighting bender for a long time. Knowing how to do three moves is not mastery. Example for mastery of airbending a monk has to be able to complete around 36 I forms. Which comprise far more skills then 6. |

We know bending mastery requires skill level 6. We currently have 4. Azula has a variety of lower level lightning bending skills like lightning whips that don't reach the threshold of being special techniques, just like she can make daggers and claws of fire simply with level 6 firebending. |

I still think wishing for an end is rather perverse though. There's still so much more to do and see. I'm rather looking forward to what Chibi will come up with when we've gone past the stations of canon. His extensions to the setting so far have been pretty interesting, so it will be interesting to see where it goes. People are being rather complacent that the comet means we've won. I rather suspect that we have a comeuppance heading towards us on that score. I suspect that the spirits can raise their game enough to make things a lot more interesting. I'm sure there are lots of natural break points in the future that Chibi can end on if he wishes veyond the comet - but, really, Azula's still only fifteen. There's loads more she can accomplish. On the other hand, if it does end after the comet, it'll have been a great ride. Edited by Alratan, Feb 10 2013, 05:50 PM.

Yet, you can't say I'm wrong either, am I? Let me put it this way instead. I would rather have Chibi end this, then write sidestories in the future about it if he still have steam for it rather than run out of interest during the main thing. Of course not everyone will be happy with the world conquered by the Fire Nation. But you seriously want to follow Azula for her whole life? No way Chibi will last this long. We took control since her birth and we successfully deviated her from her canon path. Let's hit the surprises that will surely come during the day of the Black Sun and the Comet and then let her go by herself. Chibi, do you an opinion on this? You do realize you have a problem with abandonning Quests, do you? It's enough of a tragedy that Witch Quest may not go on after seeing so much. Don't make another tragedy of having no ending here. I think that's up to Chibi, but I won't wish for a good thing to end if it doesn't have to. Depending on the length of timeskips, I think it's quite plausible to last Azula's whole life if that's what he wants. Or not, if he doesn't. Yes, things are better ended than just abandoned, but I'm not sure that when an author's wellspring of inspiration will run dry can be so easily predicted. For all we know, Chibi just considers this the prelude to when the real fun starts and we get out of the basic Avatar timeline - or he may be planning to write an epilogue the day after the comet. Not knowing which is a good thing I think. It prevents premature optimisation. Edited by Alratan, Feb 10 2013, 06:36 PM.

This entire subject seems pretty likely to sap a writer's motivation pretty quickly. How about we drop it? I'm sorry for engaging with this topic of speculation in the first place. On the topic of the update. [X] Go back to first principles of Firebending. Fire is life, is breath. Breath is also, somehow, air. At the very core they are either one or so deeply connected they might as well be. [X] Lightning. Embrace the calm and relax into it. The spark of life is inside you now, waiting, always waiting to be unleashed. Can you feel it there, next to your inner flame, awaiting your call? [X] Get word sent when Zuul returns. She needs to be given to a keeper. Ask Rin to recommend an Etiquette teacher who won't take her shit. [X] If you have time, go flying after the sun sets, when Agni's power is veiled. Invite Zuko to come along as well. He's also trying to master a new bending style, so maybe between the two of you you'll have some insights applicable to each other's questions. He developed that air cutting technique after all, and he's probably spent more time studying air bending forms than you. You, well you're the bending genius here, aren't you. [x] Interesting things A few further tentative experiments with the less draining and more responsive lightning show the beginning of some results, but you're definitely going to have to focus for longer than an hour or so to get after any of them. The trick to dousing fire.... It's not even a technique. It's the barest of basics, inflated far and away beyond what it begins as. To put out the fires of another bender, you have to first overpower their own chi, that the flames feed on. And then you douse them as any other flame. From what you can tell, there is no 'trick', or special maneuver to make it work. You just have to be.... stronger, massively stronger, than the person who's fires you are snuffing. It actually seems kind of useless for most purposes, on initial inspection. If you are already that much stronger, then you can effortlessly crush your opponent, and if they are strong enough to make such a technique worth the effort, then it won't work on them at all. Really, it seems like it's only useful for people massively weaker than you are, who you don't want to hurt in... You don't really feel like pursuing this thought much further, actually. In any case. You can't really blame Zuul for killing an assassin. Really, at that point, one of the involved parties dying is just tradition. Sometimes the assassin wins, sometimes the target does. You should still have a talk with her. ... Whenever she gets back. In the meantime... Avatar seems to have left the North Pole with a young woman in tow, at the most recent report. It looks like he's heading towards the northern air temple. From what you recall, that one is inhabited. There is a rather skilled mechanist there, who has come to an agreement with the Nation and the war minister to trade his services in exchange for being left alone. Well, at the very least, you can in theory send messenger hawks there without one of the northern tribesmen shooting it out of the sky, throwing the message into a campfire unread, and eating a well trained and reasonably expensive bird for dinner. Swords are just a matter of giving a servant a list, and sending them down into the capital. They won't be of the high quality you can expect from Piandao blades of Shu Jing, or Yu Dao weaponry, unless they are fortunate in the stock they come across, but they will serve. .... Hm, as far as the prisoners go, releasing the ones from the two prisons Zuul wasn't at would probably be more likely. They were down into a quiet sort of apathy, having not quite given up on life but certainly on escape. The ones from the last prison, however, were easily roused into a fury just by her presence. In any case. Mai seems relieved to see you are well, as much as she ever does look anything, and Toph is handling feeding the Joo Dee right now. You've carted Katara along for this, much to her annoyance, and think for several long moments how to go about this. She seems.... a lot twitchier in your presence than before. The Joo Dee, not Katara. Katara is just in a bad mood. The Joo Dee, by contrast, seems to jerk a little bit every so often, where before she was perfectly still in her restraints. ... You check, and see something interesting. The 'air' you can check on is... stirring. Just a little bit of breeze. Whatever mental conditioning, that you haven't been able to do anything for, or about, is starting to crack just from being near you, now, as an airbender? --- [ ] ??? |

I'd quite like to try something based on the vote I made immediately before the update. Chibi: does the Avatar world have the concept of the spark of life? In any case: [X] Embrace the calm before the storm. The spark of life is inside you now, waiting, always waiting to be unleashed. Can you feel it there, next to your inner flame, awaiting your call? If so, can you try to use it as you do your Divine Right, stirring the Joo Dee's inner air as Raijin's thunder does the storms. If required: [X] Get word sent when Zuul returns. Do we know if Aang has any knowledge of internal bending? If not, do we really want to tell him? It's too great a risk to give him the keys to conceptual elemental manipulation.
We should at least send him a letter with our commiserations for the loss of his previous companion.

[X] See if you can stir something within Joo Dee. -[X] You couldn't do anything with wind before. Try it with a different mentality perhaps? Think about how Toph thinkw hen Earthbending and try moving the wind with the opposite mentality. [x] Write a letter to Aang informing him of our intent to visit him at the temple. There are some matters you would like to discuss with him. Guys, remember our situation? We're in front of Joo Dee right now. And I think we're going nowhere with wind because Azula may be trying to control it like firebending. Wind is free, so maybe a more 'free' mentality is required?
