The better your language skills, the better post you put out, and the better post you put out makes a better RP.
Better RP's are the reason RUSH exists. When more users are able to outline effectively what their character does, how this develops their character, it makes for a more immersive, better RP. In this guide, I'll outline some specific guidelines that will help you become a better writer. Before I start, I must stress that these are merely guidelines. These are not rules that are enforced sitewide. I sincerely hope that all abide by these guidelines, but you do not have to. Currently, language expectations are left to the GM of the RP, and will probably stay that way. Now, let's begin.

1. Spellcheck Exists.

I know, this may come as a revelation, but spellcheck exists. This handy dandy program is the best. Run your post through spellcheck, and it will become ten times better. Also, if you do not know how to spell a word, run it through Google, and you'll get something like this. Easy as that. Minor mistakes break immersion for the other players. Imagine if you started reading a novel and there were typos everywhere. Not the best, huh? The point is not to make your post understandable, but to make your post immersive.

2. Quality over Quantity

Having a shorter post that illustrates what your character does, effectively, as well as paving the way for character development is much better than having a long post that does neither of these things. This does not mean that short, concise posts are the way to go one hundred percent of the time. If an RP has a language requirement that mandates that you must have a long post, then post a long one that does these things in greater depth. If you find yourself filling your post with nonsense you are struggling to come up with, its probably not needed.

3. Eliminate slang terms

Well, not eliminate. In dialogue, as long as you don't abuse them, they are fine, but in narrative third-person writing, be professional. It makes you sound better, increases immersion for the other players, we all win.

4. Paragraphing

For RP, I like block paragraphs. Block paragraphs look like this, no indentation, smaller font and usually a space between paragraphs. That's it. Also, basic stuff like, every new speaker, new paragraph, are really required. Making your post understandable is a basic expectation.

5. Punctuation Important are Syntax and

This is important stuff. I've seen lack of punctuation on the forums lately and its not good. Apostrophes, commas, colons and semi-colons are integral parts of good writing. I'm not going to explain how to use them, what they are and when to use them. Its not my job; its the job of your English teacher. If you have finished school and still do not know how to use these things, I feel very sorry for you. Same thing with syntax. If your sentence sounds weird, its probably because your syntax; your sentence structure is wrong.

Like most guides on this site, it will be added to over time. If you have any questions, PM me!
