A harsh spear of light pierces the dark bridge of the destroyer-class CFS-12886 'Kara', hailing from Echelon 12 of the Pika war company, as its bridge shielding retracts to offer the captain a view of the destruction below through a wide slit of thick plexiglass. While the field of view was extremely limited (windows being a structural weakness and usually completely covered in armour anyway), it was enough to confirm the Echelon's suspicions given the sudden change in sensor readings.

CFS-12886 Kara's assegai round had ignited Kalon's dense atmosphere, helped of course by the heat and turmoil generated by bombardment from E12's valiant battleships. The Captain watched the swirling gases and fires across the world below for a few minutes, the helmscrew maintaining a respectful silence. Finally, with a motion of his hand, the armour was lowered again and the bridge was plunged back into familiar darkness and dull glow of thin holographic screens. The captain places a finger against his ear to enter communication with the other captains of Echelon 12.

"Confirmed burning of Kalon. Relevant survivors are unlikely. Catastrophic destruction of atmosphere is likely impending, prepare to notify the Razvedchik Korpus of this change in planetary classification. CFS-27591 'Bestrepetnyy', have you completed your data analysis?"

"Affirmative," replied the corvette-class listening boat, which provided the most elaborate sensor suite for all of E12 to share wirelessly. "A large portion of suspect ships fled the system in a singular direction. One of them seems to have been masked by the IFF tag from the downed clipper-class, classified a national-security-threat-orange. All fleeing vessels seem to have been heading for the system in which Canaam, a popular independent hubworld, resides."

"Inform the Pika Komanda that-"

"I have already notified the war company. They replied stating that they will send a fleet carrier and supporting Echelons when sufficiently repaired; they are still recovering from the campaign against the insurgent force in the Sut' system. Our orders are to remain here until the atmosphere cools, then recover debris from the crash site once they arrive."

The captain of the Kara grumbles to himself- their observations suggested that very little was left at the crash site. But he shouldn't argue- E12 was poor-suited for ground deployment.

"Very well," he replies at last. "Notify Echelon 08 escorts of this update. All ships, assume uncoordinated operation."

With that note, the Captain turns and exits the bridge to entertain himself in the lounge. The helmscrew busily gets to work communicating with the other ships in order to determine CFS-12886 Kara's position in the loose planetary blockade of Kalon.
