The squad begins it's first scouting mission, looking out over the valley. This seemed to be a higher up area than the rest, a rather fortunate vantage point. The valley is completely covered in snow, clouds overhead, obscuring the blue sky. You see a small forest with a mix of conifer, and deciduous trees. No obvious signs of animals or human interaction. You'd probably have to go out and get a closer look

Ash looked closely to the ground for any signs of wildlife, having parents from Kentucky made him pretty good at hunting game. He looked for tracks in snow, broken branches, droppings, anything that might give the impression of life in the area.
"Animals are probably in hibernation, but that doesn't mean something big and nasty ain't out here an' I've seen way too many sci fi movies to be letting my guard down."
Ash switched his shotgun mag tube from slugs to buck shot.
"but it was always the knives closest to the heart that drew the most blood"

ASH
Inspecting the near the area around the Gate shows that there aren't any animal tracks. Strange, considering this area seemed to be completely untouched by humans. The small forest was further out in the valley. It would probably be best to have more than one person go to investigate.

"Hibernation, huh? Makes sense, but we're at high altitude — we'd probably find more signs of life in the valley." Kaisa cast her eyes at the height of the sun peeking through the clouds in the sky, then down at the snow-covered forest. Stumbling over the English words, she inquired, "Licht, your name was, right?" Noting the equal rank of the German officer, she gestured to the forest in the valley with a gloved finger. "Mind looking ahead at that forest?"

Seeing the beautiful view overlooking the valley fills Elizabeth with determination. She walks up to the staff sergeant and gives a firm salute.

"Ma'am sergeant Slick ma'am. What are your orders ma'am?"

She wanted to do everything in her power to keep everyone alive and healthy. She's had to hide bruses and cuts from her father way back when she was more or less his punching bag. She grips the edge of her sleeve as she waits for a response.

My security guards and I walk up and salute Sargent Slick by pounding our chests.
"We'll scout it out, we'll snoop that forest."
We then run off in the correct direction We position ourselves at the front of the group, ready to run off as soon as we begin moving out, weapons drawn.

((Hazmat's powergame to preemptively advance forward without consequence is inexcusable. Up to the GM to say whether you were correct or not, he now has the right to ignore the words "in the correct direction."))

Suea continued to scan the furthest visible points through his binoculars while waiting for the group to cohesively form up and move forward with the mission. He almost didn't notice that a private contractor had shown up.

She returns the salute, as is custom. "At ease." Cali says, perturbed by the airman's intense decorum. The drill instructor in her was about to lecture Elizabeth on how one should never start and end a sentence with "sir" or "ma'am", but she decides against it.
"Ok, Squad, let's move out!" She booms, beginning to lead the group into the forest.
