A group of people, scattered across London, go about their daily lives, unknowing that soon they would all be embarking on an adventure together.

"She ne'er showed..." I say, staring ahead with intense concentration. "Which r'minds me, what's the deal with your parents? You'll 've been gone a good sixteen or eighteen hours now."

"i believe i contacted them via telegraph, my father was quite indifferent about me leaving as can be imagined... but my mother was ok with it, she said that i should stay safe and that i'm basically going have to be independant.."

Gunveer adjusts the levers and switches for the props, keeping the reps at a slow and steady rise. Once the speed gets to a manageable level he increases it faster and faster until it reaches 75 RPM. "Sir, we've reached 75 RPM," His eyes focus on the dial plated with tarnished metal. "Coming up fast onto 125. Ballast is ready for drop, captain."

"Mark!" I exclaim. Water dumps from our tanks onto a sloped metal surface which drains it into the Thames, now visible below. "Rising to two kilometres, heading of forty degrees. At one kilometre, I'll be changing to a heading of one-three-six. Gunveer, bring us to fifty-five knots and hold her steady there."

"Aye sir!" Gunveer obeys and sets the speed to fifty-five knots and stops there. " Engineering is in prime condition, we shall have no troubles sailing to Egypt"! Gunveer boomed over the intercom proudly.

I stand tall with a sigh of relief, making course changes as necessary. "Wind speed of abou' twelve knots, coming in at eighty degrees. Fair skies, though I didn' check for a forecast in the papers this morning. I'll be making coffee in th' mess." I turn of the intercom and exit the bridge as the Selkie straightens out at its heading and continues rising at a small rate. Through the bridge window, towers of central London can be seen rising above a layer of fog, slowly leaving view as we turn. Christian sees his father's bank building for a brief moment before it vanishes behind the hull.

The mess, consisting of a kitchenette and one single bench table, is small and contains a single dim lightbulb like every other room on the ship. A window on one hall lets daylight flood in.

I stand in front of the stove, looking over an old coffee pot as it boils.
