Stryker's engine roared loudly as he sped down the long, dusty road on his custom-made motorcycle that looked like it came straight from the junkyard. There was only one thing on his mind: The Avatar. The hunt was on, and he was determined to come out victorious. He had the edge on every other agent in Vigilum, who only knew that the new Avatar would be from the Air Nation. Stryker had unintentionally become friends with what was now his greatest asset. He recalled the letter to himself. If you are reading this, then I am dead. I know how desperately you need to find the Avatar. Just remember, I am not an easy man to get anything from. Your search starts off in the Rio Settlement. Good luck. It was actually longer than that, but Stryker didn't take the time to memorize the minor details that included the creation of his motorcycle, his training, etc.. Not only did he have the advantage of having access to vital information, but he had taken a head start. All of his fellow agents were stuck in a briefing that would last the rest of the day. His only goal was to find what he had inherited and find the Avatar. No one would stop him. He accelerated and drew his metal claw; he was almost to the Rio Settlement. As soon as he made it, he parked his motorcycle in the nearest lot which happened to be what was considered the local tavern. He took no moment to look around and proceeded to enter the tavern. His first objective: find the elderly man who held the first piece of his puzzle. |

"Yo, Leonardo! You hungry? I got you this chick." Leonardo looked up to see his owner holding a frightened chicken in her hand. Leah Rio tossed the doomed chicken to her pet Sand Dragon-lizard Leonardo, who gobbled it down in one single loud snap. He coughed up a couple feathers in a goofy manner. Her brightly colored scaly friend then lazily laid his head on her lap as she began to unpack and repack her bag. "I gotta make sure I has ever'thin' I need. I'd hate to forget somethin' and not be perpared," Leah told Leo. "I'm goin' to the tavern today to go bug Pops." Leah gave Leo a kiss on the head and then swung her twice checked bag onto her shoulders. With her hands in her jean pockets, she walked into the run down, old looking tavern. It isn't actually that old but the constant coming and going of dirty travelers and hard working people of the settlement has taken it's toll of the place. Leah walked up to the counter and ordered her usual extra sweet tea and took a look around the the tavern to see if her dad was there yet. She checked the time and noticed that she was there a bit early today. "Fuck, this tea is as disgusting as ever!" Leah exclaimed as she took her first sip. She decided to sit and wait for her dad to arrive at the bar. |

Colette grunted as she sent a final blast of water through the funnel near her car's steering wheel. The stupid thing was just so infuriating sometimes. Scratch that. All the time. She panted as the car rolled to a stop in what she assumed to be the middle of the Rio settlement. Exhausted and frustrated, she exited the car and slammed the door shut. She could care less if it was not in a proper parking spot, and gave it a kick for good measure. Bucket of bolts. With that, she whipped out a letter from Mr. E and let out an exasperated sigh. This was the reason she had driven miles from her home in the water naton. Her eyes softened and her anger ebbed away as she examined the letter's contents for the hundredth time. How did her father know this Mr. E? Naturally, Colette had been hesitant to leave her clinic, even if the avatar was involved. She had plenty of patients that depended on her afterall. For the longest time, she had given up her dream of finding the avatar, instead choosng to change the world one person at a time. Besides, being "ill with riddles and puzzles" seemed fishy and not very serious anyway. However, her father had insisted that it truly was a serious matter, and pushed her to at least try to seek him out. Now that she had found the town, she needed to find this "James Rio". Scanning the area, she spotted a tavern. She wrinkled her nose. Taverns were far from her comfort zone. There was always a good chance that a drunkard would hurt himself or others. Despite this, she knew that this would be a gold mine for information. In a small town like this, someone was bound to have heard of the name "Rio". She glanced down and examined the riddle a final time. She was positive the answer was fire... Or flames. Or some derivative. Clutching the paper in her hand, she marched forward in faux confidence she really hoped there weren't any barfights going on today. Edited by Ame, Aug 17 2012, 03:21 AM.

Gairon Hate, leader of a powerful mafia ring, is on his way to the Rio settlement to broker a deal to a group calling themselves Frenzy. He and the four men he brought with him are wearing their suits as he drives his powerful sports car. In the trunk is a crate full of weapons, which he hopes to broker a deal for to Frenzy. The roar of his engine can be heard a hundred yards away as he passes vehicle after vehicle. He just finished swerving around a large truck as he noticed a broken down compact car on the side of the road ahead of him. He quickly checks his pocket watch and realizes that he has been making good time and so pulls over next to the vehicle. As he gets out it is made apparently obivous he is a powerful man. His size, his gait, his demeanor, and his dress all show power. Though on his face and in his eyes can be seen an air of kindness. He calmly walks over to a middle aged man standing next to the rust red compact and asks him what seems to be the problem. The man seems shocked to see someone actually stopping to help him. He appears to be very sweaty and tired, he must have been here for a while. The man simply states that the damned machine stopped working and he cannot fathom as to why. Gairon asks to look under the hood and the man immediately goes to pull the lever inside the vehicle. Gairon spends a couple minutes diagnosing the problem and then without a word walks over to his own vehicles trunk. He pops it open and sitting next to the weapon crate is a small bag. He pulls off his suit jacket and vest, lays them gently on the crate and then rolls up his sleeves. He grabs the back and walks back over to the mans car. He begins to work on the man's car with the tools in the bag. The man asks him if he knows cars, and Gairon replies that he grew up in a scrapyard and has picked up a few things. Technically he wasn't lying. After about a half hour he tells the man to try and start the car and it works. Gairon grabs a rag and cleans his hands making sure not to dirty his suit shirt. He puts his tools back and put his vest and jacket back on. The man is overjoyed and asks Gairon how he can repay him. Gairon just smiles and grabs a cigar from his jacket, which he lights with fire bending, and tells the man he needs to compensation. He bids the man a farewell and heads back on his way. He just passed a sign saying Rio Settlement 5 miles and smiles at the thought of how this business arrangement will work. |

Stryker glared angrily at all of the patrons inside of the tavern. He couldn't believe how many of them were older looking men. This was an intolerable inconvenience. He looked around the tavern and found the bar. He approached the bar and sat onto the stool. He made sure to keep his metal claw concealed the entire time, but made sure he was still properly armed. He didn't know if he would have to force the man to give him what he needed, which didn't really worry him. He was pretty confident in his ability to fight. He was trained to. He slammed his fist onto the counter obnoxiously in order to get the attention of the barkeeper. His idea worked. The barkeeper was a middle aged man who, despite Stryker's attitude, was very cheerful and nice. "What can I get you?" He asked. Stryker stared at him, embarrassed by his reaction. He cleared his throat and replied, "I'm just waiting for someone. I could use some water though." "Water. Coming right up," The barkeep quickly obtained his water and gave it to him. He then resumed talking to a group of young men who he had been talking to before Stryker rudely interrupted him. Stryker drank his water and stared at the many different people. He tried to recall some more important information that was included in the letter. He had to burn the letter right after reading it, to make sure that no one from Vigilum could have the edge over him. He could barely remember what information he had to get from the man in this settlement. It had something to do with a parcel. So his new plan was to wait until he found an older man with a package of some sort. This eliminated everyone who was within sight. He sat and watched the entrance attentively, no longer caring for anything around him. |

After taking another sip of tea, Leah scanned the tavern to see if she noticed any new faces. She usually introduces herself to newcomers so that she can direct them to her brother's inn. Right across the bar she sees a young man who made a fool of himself trying to be tough. She figures she should go ahead and introduce herself and tell him about the settlement before he causes any trouble. "Hey there, I can see you're new around here. I'm Leah Rio, the daughter of the honorable James Rio, one of the founders of this place. If you need any help just ask me or anyone else around here for that matter, we're pretty calm and tolerable people," Leah extended her hand out in a warm welcoming manner after approaching the young man. |

Colette entered the tavern, trying to be as discrete as possible due to her discomfort with her current location. She took a quick survey of her surroundings, noticing both the barkeep talking to some young men, several old men, and a male and a female that also looked too young for this crowd. The majority seemed to be elders, so perhaps such a tavern wouldn't be too rowdy after all. Still, it made her feel more comfortable to be around those of her own age group. With that, she edged over to where the two youngsters were conversing and took the seat one space away from them. As she sat down, she managed to hear the end of the girl's sentence. Something about being "calm and tolerable people". She let out a sigh of relief, but tried not to make eye contact with the two. Instead, she focused on the barkeep, patiently waiting for his conversation with the other young men to end. Surely he met many people in town. He'd probably have some information about the Rio family. |

Gairon dropped down to a more moderate speed, he realized he was in no hurry and would make it well in time. It wouldn't be too much longer before he reached the Rio Settlement, maybe 20 minutes and definately no more than a half hour. At this point Gairon started to think about his upcoming meeting. He still didn't really know who Frenzy was, or what their goals were. All he knew was to meet them in the town tavern. He once again told himself this was business. He was being a mob boss not a hero. He then noticed how much he'd been paying attention to morals lately. It was beginning to bug him. |

Stryker honestly did not hear a single word that the girl next to him had said. Something about a Rivera family most likely. It didn't interest him enough to take it in. "I'm not interested. Just leave me alone and go do something. Go pick flowers. Flowers are nice." Stryker mumbled, staring at the entrance. No elderly men have walked in holding special packages. None at all. "This settlement is so ignorant on technology, it's not even funny." At that note, he whipped out his palm sized computer and checked his email. He glanced up occasionally, only to look at the tavern's entrance. He then went into his pocket and pulled out his ear buds, plugged it into his ear and began to play his loud rock music. |
