well i do see the point in public places, because it might cause discomfort to others. But i think that it is simply outrageous that they banned it in pubs! Many customers wish to smoke with their drink, and those who dont can go to non smoking pubs instead. its as simple as that! why do things have to be so complicated?

I'm for it, but I think that it might be a better idea for there to be a smoking and non-smoking section for places like pubs.
Otherwise, how can it possibly be a bad idea?

In My English work on this subject I quoted this:

'Having a smoking and non-smoking section in a pub is like having a weeing and non-weeing section in a swimming pool. It spreads!'

Also there are no non-smoking pubs.

the thing is if you have a non smoking pub and smoking ones then how do you decide which are smoking and which aren't, for a nonsmoker that has to go to a different pub rather than the local because they don't wish to get lung cancer it'll be annoying but the smoker will be equally annoyed if they have to leave.

Neither is having to get a new job because you don't want to work in somewhere thats a danger to your health. People should be able to have which job they want - with the qualifications of course...

What did you have to do in your English work?

I had to write a speech about an issue; I chose smoking in public places.

There are no non-smoking pubs!

thank god! if you want to kill yourself thats fine but please not everybody else in the vicinity aswell! I think there should b a ban in homes with small children and pregnat women aswell. I think the government is probably working on more restrictions for the future as we speak -I believe the plan is to illegalise smoking gradually.
Less and less people are begining to smoke nowadays (although you wouldnt believe it if like me your forced to walk through or past the exit to the lane on the way to school) and the public ban is another step in the right direction.

great quote btw Woody - r u considering being a journalist or mp?

people who smoke have chosen to eat their lives (and wallet) away but I dont think that it is in any way fair that they should eat other peoples lives away. They should have special places for people who smoke with all the other people who smoke. It will save all the people who get lung cancer (or other cancer) from passive smoking.

why should you have to stop in your own home??? its your choice, not the goverments! its out of order for them to tell us what we can and cant do in something we own! I do understand it in council houses however

wont you please think of the children..
I think the ban is good in homes too because unborn children can become addicted to nicotine soon after they are born just because their pregnant mother smoked
