Name: Viviane Belami Appearance: Dark curls, bright and intelligent grey eyes and a creamy complexion Occupation: Merchant's daughter and potential dowry fodder by day, temperamental and passionate artisan by night History: http://w11.zetaboards.com/Redstone/topic/10084668/1/ Written in Latin (certain liberties taken with expression and syntax) Dear Diary, My brother Léo has once again sailed for France without me. This is the fourteenth occasion he has evaded my attempts to escape from this dreary existence in the middle of nowhere. He tells me there is a renaissance of artistic wonder sweeping eagerly through the streets of Paris, a buzzing hum of anticipation that has all of the aristocracy agog among themselves to adopt the new and be seen as the apex of this burgeoning culture. Meanwhile, here in Thornbury, I, the prized sow of this spit of an English village have become well past marriage age at eighteen and am now withering on the Belami family vine without an advantageously arranged husband to speak for me. Papa is too caught up in the running of his fortune-generating tavern to pay any interest, and Maman seeks to constantly remind me that I am only -half- French and should cleave more to her pursuits of tavern management and lady-like graces, to achieve the superior edicts of wifehood, of course. Mama's own meddling influence has been the bane of my wilder heart. She draws continuous reference to my sister-in law Maggie (wife of the insufferable Geoff) as the paragon of delicate English beauty, obedience and benevolent grace. Her comparisons between us are unfair. She and I are as dissimilar as a sprig of St John's Wort from a wild red Thornrose. The origin of this plaguing wildness of spirit does not seem to fall on either end of my family trees. Alas, a black sheep I have become, with my ink and paint-stained fingers. Only Léo knows of my true passion. He, as always, remains dutiful in carting off the pieces of my soul, smeared upon cloth, woodcuts and if luck prevails, precious paper, ripped from my hands to far off and marvelous places. He tells me that my paintings are especially popular among the "maison du roi" of the King's court, my bold and daring use of colour and free form technique is something they have never come across. Very far removed from the production of Pietistic painting. They doubt heavily that the work itself could come from any but a drunken serf of Thornbury England. A brilliant ruse orchestrated by my brother, of course. How they must frustrate themselves between desire for a thing they can scarcely believe! The coins procured are mostly kept by my brother, though he gifts me from time to time with a few coins for my own trinkets and the like. One day I shall escape to see the world - to see the Byzantine monumental Church mosaics, the life like frescos of monuments, the carved ivory of skilled hands! Leo's return cannot come to soon, plus he has promised me a new vial of pigment ultramarine. The ground lapis lazuli would make for a glorious rendition of the afternoon sky... Family & other relationships: Daughter of Gabriel and Emma Belami, Merchant Family of Thornbury Goals: To become the first world-famous female artisan and artist Likes: Rainy days and the scent of fresh paper. Dislikes: Her brother Geoff (insufferable boar), her dull, provincial life Strengths & weaknesses: Will be discovered through rp Secrets (they don’t necessarily need to be told, only to be known by their typist): Her paintings are rather famous (and infamous) acquisitions to the rich aristocracy and kingdoms across Europe. Model: Anna Popplewell Edited by Viviane, Jul 31 2014, 09:46 PM.
