We are very sad to announce that Carole Spurgeon, co-founder of Dignity, passed away peacefully in her care home early this morning with her son Kevin by her side.

As many of you may be aware Carole had Alzheimer's for a number of years and took a turn for the worse late last year when she entered Hill House care home after a stay in hospital. Up until that point she had lived at home with Barry thanks to the help of firstly Alexa and then two lovely ladies Helen & Emma-Lisa (as well as help from various family members). She celebrated her 55th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends on 14th February and had a really "good" day.

Barry is eternally grateful to everyone who helped make Carole's final years / days as full and, in the end, as peaceful as possible. When Dignity was started and Barry was still supporting the fledgling service by continuing his job as a fashion agent Carole took the lead and ran the pet crematorium single handed.

Those of you that met her will know what a special, caring person she was - her passion and concientiousness for giving pets a respectful send-off was a driving force in shaping the standard of service that we still strive to maintain today. Veterinary staff will also remember Carole riding shotgun with Barry for quite some time during the early stages of her Alzheimer's.

We are immensely proud of what Carole has achieved in her life - as well as starting Dignity she was of course a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
