27 I don't know, this art style really seems to be copying the look of VVVVVV I remember back in the dorms in Wisconsin, I had a neighbor named Martin, from England. He would speak wistfully of the Spectrum, and Jet Pac, and the secrets of color clash. (His major was American Studies, and if someone asked what that meant, he would point meaningfully at them and say "I'm studying yoooou!") I think he mentioned one of the maddening things about the game - if you die, you might respawn in a place where you'll immediately die again. |

Yes, sadly so Dumps. There are occasions, especially when falling from a ledge into a new screen, that the fall is simply too far yet is repeated until Death. Probably a lack of play-testing, there, methinks. And let's not forget that entering certain screens prevents a return through certain others - they become one-way. For most of us, this one-way thing probably won't raise its head; but the Death sequence certainly will - so apologies in advance for any infuriations. I specifically chose JSW2 for its speed, as JSW is just way too pondersome. |

What a badly designed game! I've always liked Manic Miner, but I never liked JSW. I hadn't played JSW II before now, and it's as bad as I remember JSW being. No joystick control, so I can't play it on the real thing and had to install JoyToKey, then I enter rooms and die in a particular place which means I immediately die again, and again... Then there are stairs that you can't walk past. Some you can jump on and manage to walk through, but it's a bit random. Some rooms you have no chance of getting through, like the Library. I think I'm done with this. 27 ![]() |

Oh, Nec. Ye of little faith. All stairs can be jumped through, sometimes straight through, mostly by landing 'in' and walking through. All rooms, bar the Banyan Tree, are passable: they just need practice! But if you think the Library is difficult...try The Crypt! And the 'mythical' Desert Island can be reached without a cheat, but it is a tortuous journey and from the moment you Trip the Switch you are NOT ALLOWED TO DIE! Keys are simple to use in this game, Nec. Give yourself time to explore, too - you might find a route you like that isn't too taxing....

Oh I really hope I can find some time to play this one. I loved JSW2. The Original C64 version was better.

45 Gah! The Garden! Pixel-perfect EVERY jump and on a right-to-left conveyor with an almost immediate first reaction required upon entering. I have done it, many times in fact, but ONLY - bizarre, this - when doing a browsaround and not collecting. So annoyed! |

There's no way in the darkest depths of hell that I'm touching this one. After everything else I've tried related to these blasted things, I have developed a complete loathing for Spectrums. Never. Again. Not even doing one of them non-scores this time. Just.... no. Nope nope nope. Till next week, then. |

Its not easy...

32![]() This game isn't by Matthew Smith, and it shows, as a lot of the new screens are pale imitations of the originals. The instant death is there, but manages to be even more annoying than the first game. Having said that, it IS Jet Set Willy, and keeps the pixel perfect jumping of the original, as well as the crisp graphics, and is still a very playable game. |

33 Edit: 33, not 31. I'm even more awesome than I remembered... I think that's it for me. It felt great to find the jackpot of the Butler's Pantry. After that it felt like a real slog to learn new rooms by trial and error. I found a suggested route online, although this is optimized for speedrun rather than for low risk or easy play: http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/games/jsw2/jsw2_route.html There are a couple of youtube playthroughs as well. Tried to re-enter the race today after two weeks of absence but can't get the game to run properly with any of my emulators Spin crashes and Spectaculator takes me to the intro screen and asks me to press enter but does nothing when I do. Any suggestions?

The game is security locked. When you press Enter you will be asked to enter a colour code: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games-extras/JetSetWillyII_CodeSheet.jpg On my laptop, the order of colours are 1 Blue, 2 Red, 4 Green, 6 Yellow ZXSpin works for me every time. Not sure why yours crashes.... Did you download JSW2 from the WoS site? It is possible to play the game in Java within WoS itself, though I have no idea how to save a screenie (short of taking a quick photograph and uploading via Photobucket). |
