Week 5 sees us jump from the 3 button simplicity of Hyper Sports to BigDon's fingerathon nomination, Fire Trap (US). We're playing in MAME again with the 'firetrap' romulan. No continues allowed. Other than disabling continues, there are no changes to the default settings and these coincide with the Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings: 1 Coin/1 Credit Difficulty = Normal Lives = 3 Bonus life = 50,000 then 70,000 points Allow continue = No Note that Twin Galaxies hold no record for this game, so the leaders may want to record their entries for submission. Scores to be in by 12:00 noon on 30/04/06. Final scores at 12:00 on 30/04/06: 1) 121430 - Sureshot = 100.00 points 2) 103900 - Leezer = 89.66 points 3) 91080 - BigDon = 81.25 points 4) 76110 - TK421 = 71.96 points 5) 70530 - Stomach = 66.54 points 6) 70190 - Frank Chickens = 63.28 points 7) 57420 - Kaiserpc = 54.89 points 8) 52850 - Zaphod79 = 49.89 points 9) 43660 - Elgin_McQueen = 42.98 points 10) 42570 - Necronom = 39.40 points 11) 35770 - Merman = 33.48 points 12) 33920 - Ghostbiscuit = 29.59 points 13) 32860 - TheMadWelshMan91 = 26.03 points 14) 20830 - RS200 = 17.95 points 15) 15850 - RevGiblet = 12.78 points 16) 9330 - Antiriad2097 = 6.97 points Congratulations go to Sureshot for winning this week, beating even BigDon and his twin sticks. Well done also to our new members, who got into the spirit of things by posting scores at both ends of the spectrum

Just bear in mind that I'm running the show here, there's no connection with the RS board or Merman other than we're all in this together. Any sour grapes over forum closures will be deleted as they have no place here - :ph43r: On the other hand, I have zero experience of running a forum, so if something isn't working as it should, give me a shout  . Ta. [edit] I think image posting should work now if anyone wants to try posting a score. Never used it myself on the old board, I preferred Photobucket. New members (that'll be all of you after this post) will also need to register with this new board - it should do an email validation. If it doesn't do that can someone let me know or we'll end up being spammed by bots within days. [/edit] |

1 minute before seeing merman's message on the old league forum I had been looking at the "invisionfree" site and was about to suggest making a new one. Then I see the message and you've already done it
Well done.Anyway, since my last score seems to have been lost in the move, here it is again. 42,570 ![]() |

I think that's everyone PMed on the RS forum that nominated or played this season. With any luck everyone will turn up soon. You might want to mention the change on any of the other retro forums you visit, it might bring in a few new faces to fill any gaps. We had a comfortable number of players so I'm a bit worried that it'll drop too low with the change as there's no reason to visit here other than the league. Which brings me to a question: Should we have any other jibba jabba forum areas here, or do we keep this place just for league stuff and take our general chit chat to RG/RP/RGR/AA or wherever else we're comfortable?
I do, but presumably thats because I'm admin. You do mean this bit?
Not sure where the option to turn on for users is - there are masses of admin menus in this place

Seek out Joy2Key - that'll let you configure any joystick input so it maps to a keypress. Means you can use analogue sticks to control digital stuff like MAME games. Works fine for me with PS1 pads and adapter. Might need some tinkering to set up just right, but easy once you get your head round it. Nice that it can hold loads of configs so you can jump between them with a click, so you can have custom setups for any game or emu, even if the game itself doesn't normally allow it. |

Absolutely, since most of us seem to be clueless as to why the site is down anyway we obviously have no idea as to how long it'll be unavailable so another section just for all non league stuff could be useful. |

RGR ?? AA ??? never heard of these forums ! - what are they ??? .. but seriously, I think a general chit-chat section here would be very cool ! .. RP ? .. not for me im afraid .. it just gets TOO crazy in there ... I took it for a while but I could only cope with those shannanigans for a few months, it drove me mad !! .. I think it is because I like to read every thread and some of them were / are just so far off it - I quit !!! RG I have just started to post, It seems ok ! .. a few of them are ... well, not the kind of people I would enjoy a drink with, but on the whole seem a nice bunch !. Ross .... |

RetroGaming Radio and its associated forum? (Which happens to be more corporate firewall friendly when accessed via the Shane's Domain route. Armchair Arcade is a place I sort of crossed over from RGR when the forums there closed for a while. It can be incredibly interesting at times, but tedious as hell at others. Some serious discussion goes on there. Nice mag they produce though. |

Main problem i'd be finding with making the forum a bit larger is that Antiriad barely seems to have time to play these games as it is, moderating a whole forum is gonna take up more of his time. Although the fact that it would more or less entirely be just leagus members should help things along. |

I'm still not seeing that one. If I go direct to the jpg in a new browser that works, so the host URL is ok. Are you sure the mameworld site lets you link images from there? [edit] After viewing the image direct from mameworld, it then shows up the image here! I vaguely recall we had problems with this on another forum, can't remember what the solution was. [/edit] [edit2] And now its gone again. As soon as I closed the browser with the image, it also disappeared from here. I really think this one is down to crosslinking issues from the host [/edit2] You should be able to upload the image direct to the board now anyway. Games & other Jibba Jabba sections added to the forum if you go to the front page |

52850 I find it really difficult to control even with an x-arcade and two sticks , i have to keep letting go of the other stick to hit the fire button , and when i try to move up quickly i quite often end up with the guy moving up 2 and back down 2 :-)

Here's my effort: 33290 ![]() Just got off the first level so I'm doing quite well for me! As for the controls, I mapped the left left/right controls onto two of the top buttons of my joypad and used a rocking motion to get him to go up. The only downside is that I can't move him down, ah well.

Some tips: The bonus for completing a level without losing a life is very dependent on how quickly you finish the level. If you have little time left, you get pittance. Remember where powerups are, as they're always in the same place. Green moneybags give you the highest bonus, then orange, then white. Always try and grab the fire extinguishers as well, they give you a nice 500 each, even if you do have the powerup already. On the bonus descent, I find holding up and spamming fire while constantly moving left and right is the best policy. Don't try and aim for individual fires too much, just make sure you're covering as much of one side of the building as possible, while hammering your extinguisher. There seems to be some odd method of collision detection going on on this part, so you tend to extinguish a lot of 'missed' fires by doing this. |

You can shoot just by using the sticks, you don't need the extra button for it - just push the sticks together (i.e. Left/Right + Right/Left). It tells you that during the demo. Slightly better score for me: 9330 ![]() I remapped the up & down controls to the shoulder buttons on my dual shock. I'm not sure its any better mind, but I did score more. I think that's down to collecting more bonuses along the way thanks to the tips so far than any increase in my skill at this one. |

Err, but I have no connection with RS, nor did Crunchy who actually started the thing. We just happened to visit there and liked the idea of having a league. Now we have our own place - there are no ties to RS whatsoever and I'd suggest its unlikely we'll be moving back now we've gone to all this trouble. I do actually have some thoughts on going MAME only, but that's another topic... |
