I read this last night: it was a revelation. So now I know how to get better scores, I just need to stop jumping into bad guys at inopportune moments and get those numbers up... |

1774750 Got to level 30 before losing my first life so got the 2nd door out , and lost a pile on my worst level (35 - Jump!) The best way i've found on Level 32 is to get into the box quickly even with no power ups 2 bubbles forward - fire one then jump and fire the 2nd and bounce on the 2nd bubble to get in while the enemys are all stationary , you can then take some of them out quickly (really easy if you have any power ups at that point) , otherwise it becomes a bit of luck just dropping in at the right time :-)

I just wait at the opening till they start moving, then drop in, and shoot them. Usually manage it without losing a life. |

Wasn't going to post again but this score lifts me just above Fairziff (until he beats it, of course). 396810 Might even post another score. I'd forgotten how amazing a game this is - even though I'm rubbish!

Why are the other high scores on your board 20,000 rather than 30,000? Are you playing it on the right settings?

Going roughly by your previous performance and the score you've posted, I reckon it'll be alright. I'm suspecting just a minor variation in the rom or MAME version you're running, or maybe even something to do with the hiscore.dat file (Leezer?) |

level 42 and 44 are complete nightmares , 42 i always wait to see what the special item is before i start jumping up cause as you start jumping so do they
44 is just luck really stand on the first block and hope they don't jump from underneath you

Remember the special item on level 50 is just a warp point (we always called it the 'chessboard') , it just warps you to level 70 (75?) , you dont get another diamond room out so no big chance to add onto your score (although you can skip some very nasty levels :-) |

I used to think I was quite good at bubble bobble - but some of the scores are nearly double mine
I think if I can get to level 30 without losing a life I'll be happy. I keep getting killed on 29. Don't know if it's because I know I'm one away from the diamond room and I'm thinking about it (I hate level 19 as well - the amount of times I fall down one of the gaps), or if 29 is actually that difficult. I usually try to jump to the right and wait on that platfrom (1st level up, in the middle of the screen) and shoot the baddies as fast as I can. I think the problem is they escape their bubbles very quickly on this level. As for level 42, what a nightmare. tk421, the special item was crap when I got there so didn't help. If you don't get a decent special item, what's the best strategy for this level? |

That all comes down to getting the special doors out , each one would add maybe 400,000 to your score , so makes a big difference.
I find getting to the door on level 30 much more difficult - i kept falling into the small blocks with the enemys For level 29 i just kill the ones close to me and move over to the bottom right corner and wait for the item , if its a clear screen one great - if not jump to where the item is - face to the left and bubble the fast moving enemys then burst them quickly , if you miss some they tend to float up to the top section and cant get back out. For the top just get the timing right and jump up when the ghost guy is facing away.
For level 19 , wait at the start for the moving enemys to come through the screen to you then drop through and wait on the top getting them all into bubbles then if you are going to fall down make sure you fall down the middle one (where hopefully the enemy bubbles have all drifted to) If you fall down any other try to shoot a bubble when jumping - if your lucky you'll get one that wont pop straight away and you can bounce on it to get out - otherwise time your jumps to break the lightning bubbles and use those to kill the remaining enemys
I find this one a real pain - 2 ways to do it : 1) Wait for the item and hope its a good one :-) 2) Get up to the top quickly and clear the enemys who are already up there and get to one edge (so you cant get hit from below) and mop up the others as they jump up If you end up with them all up the top it really is just a mad charge - jump up bubble them and hit them quickly - you'll probably lose a life or two but just make sure you get at least some of them out the way (worst situation is getting up there - catching some of them in bubbles and then getting killed so your just back where you started :-( For some of these screens there is an element of luck by getting a power item out to clear the screen (or an umberella beforehand to skip that one) , Also when i used to play this in the arcade the enemys on this screen didnt shoot back (which made a big difference :-) |

3,237,710 died level 38 so missed last secret room. my last attempt, my tips :- 1. only 4 things in bubble bobble are important - the bell, potions, fast shoes, fast bubbles 2. all above items can be forced because EVERYTHING in bubble bobble is meant to be ie. NOT RANDOM 3. dont die !!! (well untill level 40+ anyway) 4. to get the bell just wait untill "hurry up" is displayed about 32 times the bell warns you when a destruction item is comming 5. the most important item for points in the game is not the secret rooms - but the potions that give 100,000 points a time ,how to get them ? simple just let yourself fall thru the bottom of a screen 15+ times 6. the fast shoes just keep walking about 255 steps 7. the fast bubbles - pop 255 bubbles all i do is wait untill the last possible second before clearing a screen, in the meantime if i can fall through the bottom of the screen keep doing that - easy |

For those that were enjoying playing this one - i'd urge them to go back and have one more go , but this time use the special bonuses available On the title page (the one with bubble bobble in the cloud) , type in the following codes : LEFT JUMP LEFT 1P LEFT BUBBLE LEFT 1P- it will say power up at the bottom of the screen and you will have fast feet, fast bubbles, etc BUBBLE JUMP BUBBLE JUMP BUBBLE JUMP RIGHT 1P-the screen will say original game mode and you will get the bonus doors whether you die or not. 1P JUMP BUBBLE LEFT RIGHT JUMP 1P RIGHT-this give you super on the title screen. You play the game with the monsters from the first 50 screens in the last 50 and visa-versa. You can do one straight away (when mame starts up) but wait for the title screen to come back round to do the next At least all those who were getting close to the secret doors but didnt make it will get to see them :-) While this was out in the arcades i knew about the first one for the power up items , it was only much later i found out about the 2nd one to get the special doors out :-( |
