Week 7 and we're playing RS200's nomination of Shadow Dancer (Set 3, US) in MAME. I have fond recollections of playing this at Butlins in the late 80's
This one isn't even listed on Twin Galaxies so there's an easy record if anyone fancies it. We'll play on the default settings: 1 Coin/1 Credit Lives 3 Difficulty=Normal Time Adjust=3.00 No continues allowed Scores to be in by 12:00 noon on 14/05/06. Final Scores at 12:00 noon on 14/05/06: 1) 524150 - TK421 = 100.00 points 2) 514800 - Stomach = 95.98 points 3) 417850 - Leezer = 83.61 points 4) 398900 - Kaiserpc = 78.68 points 5) 388200 - Sureshot = 74.53 points 6) 388100 - Necronom = 71.40 points 7) 376700 - Elgin_McQueen = 67.18 points 8) 261200 - Zaphod79 = 53.04 points 9) 243350 - Fairziff = 48.21 points 10) 152450 - RS200 = 36.42 points 11) 139150 - Mawrth = 32.02 points 12) 132050 - Merman = 28.22 points 13) 103800 - Ghostbiscuit = 22.40 points 14) 101450 - RevGiblet = 19.05 points 15) 41100 - Antiriad2097 = 10.17 points 16) 8600 - Markopoloman = 3.95 points Congratulations to TK421, stealing the lead from Stomach at the last moment. Thanks for playing this week people, it was a good game with an impressive turnout. |

Heh, cool score table showing the coins used on the end there. Every game should have had that in the 'cades. |

I am complete gash at this, but I really love it! .. can't wait to give it a try. I did finish the Megadrive version, but the Arcade is a totally different kettle of fish ! As SS says .. it's Shinobi with a dog ! .. how cool is that !!!! Bought a Gameboy Colour today ! .. I blame Ashley Day for writing that article in RG this month ... just made me "want ...." Now to get that Kirby game with the tilty thing ... |

I keep getting killed by the train thing as well Sureshot, yet my score is no where near as good as yours, any tips on increasing my points? As for the bonus stage I would say I finish it about every second time. Move to the left straight away and keep firing until the guy appears at the right hand side. Then I find the best way is to just keep firing and moving from side to side. |

I found that using your sword where possible gives you some extra points; not many (maybe 100 per kill), but it does equate to a nice little bonus in the long run. Apart from that, just finishing the levels as quickly as possible and not using magic seems to be the order of the day. |

yep, losing your fire power at the end of the level seems a little unfair. Especially as it takes you most of the level to collect it anyway
Had a couple of goes so far - yet to break 100,000, so won't bother posting. Seems very similar to Rolling Thunder 2, which doesn't bode well for league points, as I was crap at that. Certainly enjoying the diversity of the games this season though, best mix of games since the league was started. |

Victoria Beckham's in it? Glad everone's enjoying the mix so far. I've been missing the shmups myself this season, but averages would suggest there's one due soon. Only time and the TI-99 will tell. We'd have had some by now, but the nomines hadn't posted scores on the necessary weeks so the selection was invalid I don't have a problem with superfast shuriken, but disappearing powerups are par for the course in a game of this era - we've just got soft I think. |

I've just go to the flame spitting train bit (level 2-4), and it's impossible! It's the furthest I got and I ended up 5th on the high score table (I used a smart bomb when I didn't mean to Doh!). There is one bit where I have to use one (near the end of 2-3) where a frisbee bloke has a gun shooting bloke behind him, so that was 20,000 points wasted.

214250 The bit with the frisbee bloke with a gun bloke behind him is pretty simple: beeline to the frisbee guy and sword him, then quickly go backwards and fall down to avoid the bullets. |

Ok, I've already started flinging this joypad. Not only does it have the issues I highlighted in my other thread, but I've now also discovered it seems to like becoming periodically unresponsive, sometimes causing my character to carry on moving in the direction which I was initially. It just fucking did it on the train bit causing me to become rooted to the spot, so I'm afraid it doesn't look like it's gonna last too long. Edit: I may have discovered a fix for this particular problem, we shall see. |

There are 2 place where I have to use my magic (probably unnecessarly), they are on the 2 ninjas just before you get to the train and on the previous level where there is a frisbee guy and another guy behing him firing (just below where you meet the 2 yellow ninjas). Can anyone tell me how to get past these guys without using my magic?? |

I got all the way to the end of the level just before the "end of stage train" without dieing, then lost all my lives  First by trying to kill the frisbee man before getting shot by the man behind him, then my other lives on the purple ninja who has only ever killed me once before. I might try again tomorrow. It's annoyed me now. |
