For Week 8 we go really retro thanks to Sureshot's nomination of Chuckie Egg on the BBC. Trust me, this one's worth the hassle of new emulators - while testing nominations at the start of the season this one had me hooked, so what was meant to be a 30 second test ended up as an hour long game. I'd forgotten how good this is. You can pick up the game itself from The Stairway To Hell. Direct link: Chuckie Egg Any BBC emulator will do, I happened to find model-b first and it worked a treat for me. The Beeb version isn't listed on Twin Galaxies, though the Speccy & C64 ports get a mention (but no scores) We'll play on the default settings, which won't be fiddly as there's no alternative. Scores to be in by 12:00 noon on 21/05/06. Final scores at 12:00 noon on 21/05/06: 1) 412560 - Sureshot = 100.00 points 2) 376150 - Leezer = 92.81 points 3) 336650 - Kaiserpc = 85.24 points 4) 289580 - BigDon = 76.76 points 5) 286470 - TK421 = 73.61 points 6) 252910 - Necronom = 66.76 points 7) 252770 - Mawrth = 63.97 points 8) 239750 - Fairziff = 59.61 points 9) 205370 - RS200 = 52.67 points 10) 129470 - Stomach = 40.69 points 11) 119000 - Zaphod79 = 36.64 points 12) 89600 - Markopoloman = 30.30 points 13) 77970 - Elgin_McQueen = 26.12 points 14) 30170 - Ghostbiscuit = 17.55 points 15) 29590 - RevGiblet = 14.70 points 16) 29380 - Antiriad2097 = 11.89 points 17) 24760 - Merman = 8.56 points 18) 16870 - Russgalleywood = 4.82 points Congratulations to Sureshot, you took an early lead and held onto it, despite some close competition from Leezer in the end. A good competition this week with one of our biggest turnouts yet A special mention goes to Markopoloman, as he's pointed out he reached the glorious heights of 12th place and is rightly chuffed B) |

15220 A quick try to make sure everything works A tip for those with x-arcades it doesnt like the sticks on there , however if you go into the keyboard mapping and just change any 'normal' key to PC_G then you can use the right hand stick quite easily (you need to remap all four directions to use the left hand stick).

joy2key will let you use a stick with any game or emu, regardless of native support. As long as it'll accept keyboard input, joy2key does the job. |

Wow, it got picked! Hope you enjoy it, it's pure platforming at its finest. For those having trouble with pads/joysticks, try ZXMKL on the keys if you're brave, it's what I'll be using. Tips: - The birds move in a set pattern, apart from the big yellow bird on the later levels, which will follow you around. More blue birds will appear every 8 levels or so too. - Don't worry about losing lives later on if you need to take a risk on the last egg or whatever, because you do tend to rack up quite a few in reserve due to highly inflated bonuses. - You will need to use walls and the sides of the screen to escape at certain points, get used to the trajectory at which Harry falls and use it to your advantage. - On level 7 (I think), it may seem like the only way you can go is up the ladder on the left. However, you can jump on the double-stacked blocks to your right, just try aiming to get on the bottom one and you'll go through the one on top. - If you're about to hit the top of the screen on the lift, avoid death by holding jump to fall through it. - Also, do not WALK off lifts, else you will plummet. Jump on and off them. - More tips at: http://www.bagshot-row.org/chuckie-egg/gameplay.html |

Level 13 , bouncing of the edges is a bit of a pain to get used to , and there are certain points where i can see its useful to leave one egg to the last as its so hard to get

Level 21 is soooooo annoying  I've got there 3 times and died each time within a few hundred of my best score. One score was higher, but I'll see if I can do a bit better before posting another. One of the worst bits is when I jump a gap, land on a lift (when I wasn't expecting to), then walking off the end and die. That's happened loads of times. I thought the save option from the meny would allow mw to save my high score in the file permanently, but when I loaded it back in my high score table had been reset.
I find it's very fast. I have the speed limiter on, but sometimes I would like it a bit slower... |

Hey guys - I'm having trouble saving my screenshot. I use the in-emulator option and it won't save because there's no file extension and it won't let me add one or select one. What shall I do? Would it be enough for you to take me at my word when I tell you that I racked up 7849775342324 points? |

Hey Rev!, What I do is use B-em v1.1 EMU which has a "save screenshot" option. It saves the screen into a BMP and all you have to do is to use "paint" or any other image manipulation package to save in png or jpg Hope it helps ! Ross .... |

In model-b, just put the file extension after the name in the filename box of the save dialogue. Ignore the extension bit below. I named mine ChuckieEgg.jpg and it was happy. If all else fails, you should be able to copy the screen to the clipboard with the 'Print Screen' key. You can then paste into the application of your choice (e.g. Windows Paint) and save from there. If you can't post a screenie I'll need to come round to your house to validate the score and that could take a while

From the model-b readme file: Save screenshot... Saves a screenshot to disc. Type in file name (including extension, which is used to determine the file type) or select file to save to. Supported types are: * .bmp - Windows bitmap * .jpg - JPEG * .png - PNG * .pcx - PCX * .tif - TIFF * .xpm - X pixmap I use png and it works fine. I don't know why he didn't just add these options to the "save as type" list. |

Wuss. When I were a lad we had to play on the keyboard. And it was a ZX81. We'd have our fingers broken every night, just to hide the RSI Joy2Key. An essential tool for anyone who tinkers with emulators. And easily Googled for. 16920

that's my point - I didn't know that was the link because the software is "JoyToKey", not "joy2Key" as you said. So I wasn't looking for "JoyToKey", and the only "Joy2Key" I found was for Unix. My heads hurts now let's drop it - thanks again for the link. The software works fine, only it can't hide my cr*p score of just over 100,000. Plenty time left though. |
