SOOOOO, this is the league gubbins is it? Looks interesting, im always up for a bit of competition despite my incredible ability to rank in the lower reaches of league tables... But then looking at MPM's scores i think there is hope for me yet..... lol Sorry Marco... im sure you will gimme a lashing at golf later... bout 3am ok for u But ye this sounds like a laugh, gonna need to hook myself up with MAME and get a controller. Lame as it may seem ive only used MAME once before and it kept fecking up so i will need some pointers in the right direction on versions to get and how to get games running on it... Anyone got a pc pad they wanna sell? Oh a big howdy to everyone, i know alot of you already but to those i dont...hi! |

madrox, if you're new to MAME you may be easier to start off with one of the builds that has a fairly standard Windows front end. I'll suggest MAME32 as its generally quite popular. Install that first. You then need to find teh r0mz. Google will no doubt tunr up plenty of hits, especially if you give it specific zip file names to match the games you want (MAME will tell you which zip file is for which game). If you're really stuck, PM us. Teh r0mz are dumped into, you guessed, the ROMS folder of your MAME installation. Just drop them in there and thats all you need to do. Don't unzip them, MAME will do that as and when it needs to. Keyboard control isn't as bad as you may think for many games and can sometimes be better than a pad. I'm more inclined to go towards a stick than a pad, but something along the lines of a Dual Shock can be a good all rounder. Used pads aren't always a good idea. A cheap PC pad willl set you back less than a tenner. Give us a shout when (not if) you get stuck. Oh, and welcome to all the new members. Don't lose heart in the couple of weeks in between seasons here - last time we had an influx of new faces and a few drifted off before we even got started. I'm on hols for a fortnight from Saturday, usually I'd be very active here, but I'm sure others will try to answer any queries. The rules may look complicated, but ther's nothing to it really. |

It definitely depends on the adaptor you get. I had the one from Play which was atrocious (it missed out multiple buttonpresses like there was no tomorrow), but now have a Super Dual Box which is fine. Oh and if anyone's looking for another nomination, my 3rd choice would probably be Mysterious Stones - a quirky game from Technos that I only discovered yesterday. Basically it seems to involve kicking relics around do discover things inside, such as treasures and a little bloke who seems to run around stunning people amongst other things. Have a look: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=M&game_id=8801 |

Nominations updated. If I haven't tracked them down by the time you read this, can people PM me romulan names where necessary so I can add them. Those who haven't nominated 2 games yet need to post them when possible. Oh, and any mistakes/missing nominations, let me know. As I haven't played Mario Kart for a while, madroXounds, can you and preferrably some others give it the once over and confirm if it's suitable for league play? I don't remember there being much in the way of a scoring system, apart from gaining scores per race. I guess you could contiunue through and add up your final scores from each cup and engine class (similar to Buggy Boy in Season 1), but please give it another go and see how it fares. And yes, I am looking after things while Anti is doing his Kaiserpc impression and swanning off getting a tan elsewhere. |

I've updated a lot of the nominations so far with the most suitable looking romulans, mainly for MAME stuff. Again, take a look at the list, anywhere that says TBC and concerns your game, drop me a note with the image name. |

There may be a lot of selections, but they might not all be eligible depending who is actually competing (see rules). How about a rule that if someone's game is chosen, their other game cannot be chosen for the rest of the season? |

How come the idea of limiting nominations is not moaned about but the mame only one is? it was just a suggestion also the SFII thing is ridiculous - amazing how everyone's crappy ass favourite tosh is accepted, thats why I didn't select any SFII game this time, I knew people would bitch about it |

As far as I am concerned, if someone doesn't like the rules, they don't have to join the league. If anyone wants to choose Street Fighter I, II or IIIIIIII, Monster Maze for the ZX81 or any other computer/console, that is fine by me. I think the rules are fine as they are. PS -Just checked the season 4 nominations, and there were more requested last season than this.

I must admit MAME only would help me loads. I'm shite at gubbins and Mane32 is the only emulator i can use with confidence. I have other emus like my Snes one which is pure luck when i get a game to work on it. Then theres other likr KEGA that i carnt get to work at all (i'm not a rocket sientist). But Mame32 is sooooooo simple to use. |

Rest assured, we give as much help as possible regarding emulation issues. In any case, I can't think of a major problem we've had in 4 seasons of allowing multiple formats. |

I wont be playing any C64 games tho, no matter what. I am a cool dude and have a rep to protect, and if people found out i was playing C64 games that would be shattered in no time. The C64 only had one good game anyway and that was Hawkeye.

Oh no... I thought the odd C64 title was a bit stange but now we have a micky mouse computer in the form of the CPC..? I Don't want to start a flame war also, but I don't understand why a MAME only set up is a problem, this league is just like an arcade, we play by arcade rules and we all want to be top of the High Score Table.. Last season was my first season but they were all MAME, all simple to play and all easy to set up. The arcade games that run in mame are far better than anything that the CPC could ever come up with.. Imagine having to play some crap like Gravitar or Mappy but then to make things worse it's on a crappy 8-bit..? I don't understand. I won't be playing computer games if they come up, I want an arcade challenge with real arcade games. |

I think it is just fine the way it is. We played "Buggy Boy" on the C64 a few seasons ago and it worked out just cool and froody. Remember Chuckie Egg on the BBC last season ?? .. and how many people enjoyed that ?? .. almost everyone
We DO help each other out when it is something more complicated than MAME, but it rarly ever IS more complicated ... .. and stop dissing the C64 .. your just jealous cuz you only had rectrums .. |
