Trust me, it was waaaay better than Mappy.

If you'd actually sorted out your emu issues you'd know that.

After some of the crap we've persisted with I thought you'd have known better than to judge from first impressions

At the end of the day, anyone who chooses not to play a game only lessens their chances of winning the league, so everyone else benefits.

But I don't know many games on Mame all that well. I only really know Spectrum and Atari ST games. Should I not be allowed to choose two games because I prefer games on these formats?

It's like the Midnight Resistance thing. Someone nominated that, but because it's not practical on MAME the choice was changed. The Amiga version is brilliant, so why not vote for that? I don't understand the problem myself.

I usually vote for MAME stuff I don't know, so people don't complain, but I often have one choice as a C64 game.

the reason i would have only mame games is that there will be pretty much no running issues and nearly every genre is covered by it , the 2 games i have had picked Wardner+Mr DO ! i picked because they are very playable and enjoyable games , i would rather play uncovered gems like mechanical toy + progear than crappy old spectrum games but everyone has a choice and if that's their bag so be it ,i just choose not to play em

Not that you're biased or anything ;)

I enjoyed Split Personalities more than some of the MAME games (more than Wardner tbh, that just wasn't my cup of tea). I'd put this one pretty high on my list of league games I've liked.

I can't comprehend why people would write off a game because of its platform. By all means give it a go and then rip it to pieces if its crap, but not just because of the host. Fair enough TK, you had some emu issues, but you gave barely a passing thought to sorting those out based on the posts during the week. Had you maintained any semblance of difficulties I could have offered more help or directed you to a more suitable emu for your system.

Still, as you say, you made the choice and you lose out because of it, not that I'll be offering you much challenge. Some of the other first place contenders haven't posted every game this season either, so you're still in with a shout.

Semblance:
–noun
1. outward aspect or appearance.
2. an assumed or unreal appearance; show.
3. the slightest appearance or trace.
4. a likeness, image, or copy.
5. a spectral appearance; apparition.

To clarify: Had you made it known you were still having problems with the emu after your initial post, I would have offered more help. As it stood I got no response from you so I assumed you'd sorted out your issues and simply weren't enjoying the game much and therefore not playing/posting new scores. I was surprised when it got to game end and you'd posted nothing - I expected at least a token effort from you as one of our more dedicated and talented players.

I shall be choosing another two Speccy games for next season, and I would welcome other members to choose games from whatever system they are most confortable with, whether that be Mame, C64, Amstrad, Megadrive, whatever. It gets a bit boring playing Mame all the time, and a bit of variety is good for the league. :)

The reason that there were some people who had trouble initially with the Speccy was that it was a new platform that had not been chosen before. I had great problems getting Mame to run the first time I tried it, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

By the way, I didn't say I was bored with Mame, but I don't know any Mame games well enough to justify choosing them, and feel more comfortable with Spectrum games. :)

how old are you ?,didn't you play 100's of arcade games when you were younger ? there must be countless games more enjoyable for yourself and everyone else via the mame format ?

No, because I wasn't made of money and there weren't many arcades in Sheffield. I spent countless more hours playing Speccy games. :)

Same here. I've hardly played arcade games (I play on MAME now though). I had a C64, so I played on that.

To play on the real ones, I'd have had to get someone to drive me to an arcade somewhere, then spend money (which I didn't have) to play games, when I had plenty already at home.
