For week 3 we return to MAME and Bally Midway's 1983 classic, Tapper (Budweiser) nominated by SirClive.![]() Twin Galaxies uses the default settings so we can compare scores, though they're not allowing players to accrue more than 5 lives. We'll keep playing until all lives are lost. Default settings: Service Mode = Off Demo Sounds = On Coin Meters = 1 To check other settings are at defaults, turn Service Mode on above and then reset the game. This will bring up the service menu, where you can select Machine Setup (F2 will reset and exit once complete). Defaults for this are: 1 Coin/1 Credit 1 Credit for 3 Men 1st Extra Man at 20000 points, Additional Man every 60000 points. Difficulty Level 3 No continues allowed Scores to be in by 12:00 noon on 08/10/06. Final Scores at 12:00 on 08/10/06 1) 134200 - Elgin_McQueen = 100.00 points 2) 102525 - TK421 = 86.20 points 3) 89750 - Koops = 79.44 points 4) 73000 - Zaphod79 = 71.20 points 5) 68125 - Ashlington = 67.38 points 6) 67975 - Kaiserpc = 65.33 points 7) 66125 - Leezer = 62.64 points 8) 57400 - A.J.Green = 57.39 points 9) 49350 - Opa-Opa = 52.39 points 10) 47250 - MadroXounds = 49.60 points 11) 46850 - Merman = 47.46 points 12) 46450 - Frank Chickens = 45.31 points 13) 43650 - Necronom = 42.26 points 14) 43400 - SirClive = 40.17 points 15) 42925 - Sureshot = 37.99 points 16) 41500 - RS200 = 35.46 points 17) 36400 - Stomach = 31.56 points 18) 33375 - Antiriad2097 = 28.43 points 19) 31550 - The Last Ginja = 25.75 points 20) 26875 - Fairziff = 22.01 points 21) 26500 - Danny = 19.87 points 22) 25375 - M.A.G. = 17.45 points 23) 23825 - Ghostbiscuit = 14.88 points 24) 18700 - BigDon = 10.97 points 25) 18450 - Ritchardo MkII = 8.87 points Congratulations Elgin_McQueen |

Score: 26,500 WOW a conterversal choice this week. Before you guys start yelling at me there is a reason for me saying what I am saying here. This game openly encourages "juicing" or "leeching". Here are a few descovered on MAME's history .txt file... * Hint 1 : Take your time in the first few levels. You can make a high score by leaving one person and waiting for more people. * Hint 2 : The last guy in the row will almost always leave a tip. * Hint 3 : If a person leaves the bar in the first level you get 50 points but, if you let them get close to the end of the bar, they will drink the beer and stay. It's 100 for getting the empty mug. * Hint 4 : The longer you stay in the level, the faster the people and mugs move. Hope that helps. p.s: Fantastic choice clive!

It doesn't stop people from doing it though. I notice there are quite a few high scores already, where the game is still on level 2. I only scored 33,200 but got to level 3. |

43900 A fun game although can be a bit infurating at times when your guy takes forever to move up to grab that glass about to fall , or when you think you've cleared things and one more guy comes out (followed by another .... and another ....)

89400 First time on stage 8. thing with leaching is the longer you spend on a stage the harder it gets so you're taking a risk. But you might just suck and have to spend ages on that stage anyway. |

Your score does put you in second place for the world records Elgin, which can't be bad at all. I assume the title holder has a pattern or somrthing that allows him to loop the game near indefinitely except for the odd mistake and is no doubt the reason for the lives limitations imposed by TG.
