Week 8 and we have a 'love it or loathe it' nomination from Necronom, Taito's The New Zealand Story from 1988. There is some discrepancy with different version descriptions for this game, so please use the one provided here (rename to tnzs.zip when downloaded) ![]() Rather surprisingly, Twin Galaxies has no score recorded for this one. Default settings: 1 Coin/1 Credit Flip Screen = Off Service Mode = Off Unknown = Off Difficulty = Medium Bonus Life = 70000 200000 Lives = 3 Allow Continue = Yes You may wish to disable this for ease of play Unknown = Off No continues allowed, no auto-fire allowed Scores to be in by 12:00 noon on 12/11/06. Final Scores at 12:00 on 12/11/06 1) 746090 - Leezer = 100.00 points 2) 627230 - TK421 = 89.40 points 3) 370600 - Kaiserpc = 69.57 points 4) 343650 - MadroXounds = 65.14 points 5) 305750 - Elgin_McQueen = 59.96 points 6) 297200 - A.J.Green = 56.76 points 7) 271510 - Necronom = 52.41 points 8) 248760 - Fairziff = 48.25 points 9) 242660 - Sureshot = 45.21 points 10) 229060 - SirClive = 41.67 points 11) 216350 - Zaphod79 = 38.18 points 12) 207170 - Opa-Opa = 34.94 points 13) 135850 - RS200 = 27.53 points 14) 82890 - Antiriad2097 = 21.34 points 15) 69630 - Smurph = 17.82 points 16) 67450 - Markopoloman = 15.05 points 17) 55990 - Merman = 11.65 points 18) 49930 - Ghostbiscuit = 8.61 points 19) 42950 - Stomach = 5.51 points Congratulations Leezer :ph43r: TK421 is sniped into second place

One I've played a few times, and yeah there are a few level warps around. I wonder if it's worth taking them or not... In any case, I'll try and screenshot the first one in the game when I get home to give you an example (unless someone does it in the meantime). |

43,170 I played a demo of this on the Amiga, and liked it, but I've never played the arcade one. I got here then couldn't find how to get to this little guy in the cage. Poor thing... Learning the maps seems to be quite important. I did get to some sort of warp thing that took me somewhere, then another took me somwhere else, then I ended up back on level one. I don't know what all that was about, but the first warp thin was right near the start of the game (maybe within a screen of the start). I must have show something to make it appear.

ROM is TNZS. I didn't name it, as I have 2 MAME setups and both identify it differently. One says its the original Japan version, the other says its the World, Newer version. If I was forced to pick one, I'd say it should be World, Newer as that's what MAME Classic identifies it as. But I messed up my MAME install beyond the front end so I can't launch it from there just now

i think the problem with different romsets is that it isn't just a different extra life score to achieve or even slightly different looking enemys but a totally different map layout ! its like different version of the same game ,here is the first screen of the tnzs that i downloaded just so people can confirm that this is what everyone is running |

Had this on the ST and really liked it. Might get the new and improved version on the DS. Nice choice! Although if I remember it can be a bit frustrating at times. I seem to remember the ditty being quite catchy (I've still got the tune for last weeks game in my head) |

Either the ST version was a lot easier, or my gaming skills have radically reduced in the intervening years. I'm guessing the later
