Week 9 returns us to the 8-bits with Interceptor's 1984 C64 hit, Tales of the Arabian Nights as nominated by Kaiserpc.![]() To ensure we're all playing the same version of the game (as there will be noticeable differences between PAL and NTSC etc), please download and use this one. As a zipped D64 disc file, it should be usable with any C64 emulator. For C64 emulation, my personal preference is VICE. Please check the VICE home page should you require documentation, though we will help out if you get stuck. Windows users can direct download VICE from here Not listed on that page is PSPVice. Note that I've not tested this game with the PSP port of VICE. To load this game using VICE, please follow instructions provided by Kaiserpc:
And some more general help once loaded:

couple of tips to get this working setup your joystick for port 2 "capslock" is the run stop key, to get past the loading intro obviously select "H"ighscore saver rather than trainer - we will not select infinite lives! reset the highscore on 1st use, and then load each time after this Alt+C lets you save your screenshot |

This is a blast from the past. I used to love this game on the C64, then again I was about 8 and remember being amazed that there was a game with 'speech', if you can call it that. It can be frustrating, have got a first score of just over 4000, but was too slow to save the screenshot. |

but if you saved your highscore on the table (as I described in my posting earlier), and then load it in next time your score will still be there. You can also just press "print screen", as well as Alt-c, also "P" pauses the emulator so you've got no excuses really

As I said to Elgin - extract the d64 file from the zip file and save somewhere apropriate - double click on x64.exe - go to file, and select autostart disk image - browse to the directory you saved the d64 file, in step 1, and select it - press space to bypass the intro screen - press capslock to bypass the game information screen - select "H" for highscore - select "L" to load the highscore - press "space" to get past the loading screen - go to setting, joystick setting, and setup your joystick for port 2 - press fire to start the game see my other postings for saving screenshots |

That's what I find most frustrating. You complete the first level depending on whether or not hte birds decide to home in on you or fly overhead. |

In VICE, choose the Settings menu and select Joystick Settings. This will open a new window for the joystick configuration. For Joystick in port #2, select Keyset A (or B ). You then need to press the Config Keyset A (or B ) button. For most games, all you need to define here are the keys for North, South, East, West and Fire. You can ignore the diagonal definitions, though they can be useful for a few games (e.g. Way of the Exploding Fist) |

Yup, tried it again, am I missing something or is the first level the most horrendous level ever created? I thought games were supposed to be fun. Criminals shouldn't get parole hearings, just give them the first level of this game and say, complete this and you can go. |

Don't take this as an example of the league though, most are pretty good. All this game is going to do is stregnthen the arguement for it to be MAME only (which I don't agree with by the way). |

I obviously will continue to participate in the league but I just think it's bad luck to come in to the league with this as a starter. Now I have posted a score my recommendations can be entered so that's a plus. Ok so the game wasn't for everyone, but I suppose the bigger the mix of games you have the fairer the league. Good luck to all those with more patience than I!!! |

How do you figure this? people like different games - it would be boring place if we all liked the samething. how many complaints have there been about Mappy, and Mr Do's Castle? A system does not determine if games are liked or not. I don't see how one c64 game, that isn't liked by a number of players, increases the possibility of a Mame only league. That's like saying we should stop using mame games because of all the problems getting the right version of New Zealand Story for the record I hated the one Spectrum game we had this season, Split Personalites, (I only played it once) but I didn't call for Spectrum games to be removed. |

I didn't say I wanted MAME only, I said the opposite. But those who do will say that the last 2 non-mame games were shit, got the lowest number of entrants (cos I am sure this will do as bad as the speccy one) and suffer from being computer based so they don't need to have the immediacy of an arcade game. I think its a shame it wasn't a better game that showcased the system, but as you say, it would be boring if everyone liked the same thing. |
