What a good idea

It just seems a bit 'off' when you keep hiding your top score until the last minute most weeks.

Now, can you let us all know how you got such a big score in New Zealand story?

no

I must be mad ! .. I really like this game

PS got to "night 3" now - but wow - that is a tough level, before I could work out in which order to spell ARABIAN I was zapped by a giant "z" - 3 times !!!

For the first "night" I think it is easiest if you do it on your 1st life as the 'bird' doesn't fly at you half as much and the times when it does you *can* avoid it (seems the timing is different for what life you are on) ... Just got to dodge those frickin octopi!

yep, level 3 is quite tough

the way I do it is ....

the trick is to wait for the ghost (that follows you) to come over to the left hand side, while you stand somewhere safe (where you get the 1st A). Then get the "R", and come back over via the middle platform and stand at the left again and wait for the ghost. Then go back and get the ABI, go back, and finally get the top A and drop onto the N

I must admit to being quite excited to see a C64 game come up this week. Having never owned one and never played anything under emulation, I am looking forward to this.
Thanks to KPC for the detailed instructions for getting this emu going. Worked 1st time for me.

How hard is this game!
I haven't made it off level 1 yet, actually I have only ever got up to the 'I'.

Interested to see some of the flying levels, if I can make it :)

As for the speech, very well pronounced compared to 'Meteor Storm' on the Speccy :)

okay,

- get the 1st A to the right
- try and go up the ladder b4 the cannon fires again (you may have to come back down if it fires)
- now get the R jump over and drop and try and walk over and get the other A. Watch out for the eagle, you may have to run back to the left
- drop down and get the B, then walk back to the left ladder (avioding the octopus)
- go back up to where you jump across, wait till the eagle appears, and depending on where he goes time your jump to avoid him
- go up and get the I
- drop and jump over and get the last A and drop onto the N, you should be able to do this before the eagle comes back

Note: this method isn't full proof, and I quite often lose a couple of lives on the 1st level

no

Why not?

If you have a legit score, there should be no reason to hide your tips from the rest of us. The game won't be played in the league again, but it could help those who enjoyed it fare better with their own games. There is no doubt you're a skilled gamer, you've proved it often enough without cheating.

I look forward to your response in the New Zealand Story thread

What's wrong with it? It's a shot from the game, haven't changed anything? Why?

EDIT:
Actually, looking back now, I remember that first little peg on the left being black or brown, dunno what's happened, I used Print Screen and Paint to get a shot then uploaded to photobucket, somewhere along the lines something happened.

Weird. I thought your were messing about to see if I would notice, since I always complain over on the RG forums about the colours on C64 games being wrong in the mag and on the forum sometimes. When I saw your "ground" green instead of red, it looked like a joke you'd deliberately done.

It's a bit hard this game. I can't see me getting too far with it, but I'll try again tomorrow.

But those who do will say that the last 2 non-mame games were shit, got the lowest number of entrants (cos I am sure this will do as bad as the speccy one) and suffer from being computer based so they don't need to have the immediacy of an arcade game.

Funnily enough, although Split Personalities got the lowest number of entrants (18), both Out Zone and New Zealand Story only got 19 entrants, so not that much difference.

This is complete rubbish.
A one eyed Howard the Duck type thing who has the ability to shot "Z"'s from his finger tips strong enough to destroy boulders but cant be arsed to shot giant birds that home in on you no matter what you try and do to avoid them..?
The graphics are awfall for a CBM64, the music is rubbish for a CBM64 and the only reason anyone would bother with this turd is because they have no other games for the CBM or they paid full price for this tripe and have confinced themselfs that it was worth the money and they DO like it..

:D  :D

made me laugh

ach come on it was released in early '84 before many programmers exploited the full capability of the machine. Yep, it's got a high difficulty level (and that Eagle is damn annoying).

And I think the tune really is great :P, and the speech cracks me up every time

You need to keep going to get to level 4 though, you'll really like the flying carpet level (honest).

As Daris might say - I'm not feeling much love in the room ;)

I take it you are on level 3 ....

anyway to get the B

1st off - you will have got the 1st A the 1st time around the loop (of going up the ladder to the left, jumping on the top platfrom (with the 2nd A), jump to the right again and get the R.

Now drop down to the I and walk over towards the B, drop down and jump up the boards to the the right twice, onto the 2nd board (you're safe here). Now wait for the homing ghost to come over towards you. Now jump up the boards, drop down onto the I again and jump over to the left - back to the safe bit at the left hand side of the screen.

Again wait for the homing ghost. Now back around again and get the 2nd A, drop down and get the B, wait for the homing ghost, jump up and drop to get the I, jump back over to the left, wait for the ghost. Finally, get the last A and drop onto the N.

Easy, really ;)

no you don't ...

if you walk slowly from the I to the right, you will drop down, at the 2nd brick pillar half way between the platform and the B, if you drop down from here, you will not die. Watch though, don't stay too long here as you can get hit by one of the deadly "Z"'s

Where were you dropping down from?

Ok, got to the 3rd level - and thats a real bugger!

1st level is really really annoying with that f'ing Bird!

2nd level is a breeze!

Will try and follow the instructions to complete L3.

I really am enjoying this - very good to have a different system to play on.

I've decided that my Phone camera is the best for non-mame piccies - so here is my latest photo :D

Why would I ban you?

There were some doubts cast on your score and how it was achieved.

You were asked to explain how it was possible (by others).

You refused.

At that point I felt the need to intervene and request you provide at least some indication of your abilities, either by explanation or inp file.

At no point have I suggested any ban or punishment. I don't see any reason to do so. You are a highly skilled player and a valued member of the league - someone has to offer a challenge to the top players here.

I have applied the rules as laid out before the season started, and as Admin feel obliged to try and resolve any problems of this nature.

It is not my intent to offend you by asking you for this info. Equally, I have respect for the other players and do not expect them to make baseless accusations.

If I ignore these things, people lose faith in the integrity of the system. If I act on it, I piss off a player. Either way, I lose. I don't take it lightly.

Thank you for your assistance in sorting that one out eventually.

thank you ant,

i suppose i do owe some ppl an apology and you`re quite right about my non posting antics, which is nothing more than pure laziness on my part.

from now on i will post more regulally, and try to chatter more.

reguarding my scores tho i do have a habbit of finding ways to get more out of the game if possible, hence leaching - i did that when playing arcade games for real and carried on with mame games, the way i see it is if a games designer is to lazy to prevent these things from happening then they are there to be exploited !

I keep wondering if I upset him when I didn't push forward with his website. No BigDon either. I really need to get in touch with both of them, I want to get something in place for next season, even if its just a placeholder site.

Don't think you could've upset him, he did make it very clear the site was just a practise thing for him. Though it could easily be mofified into a history site seeing as Kaiser still isn't doing his anymore. Could get it to look like the Llamasoft one if he wants more stuff to do.

I'm going to sort out some stuff myself. BigDon bought the URL for us and offered to host but he has no time to maintain it. I was hoping to rope in Colly to help out with coding at least until we were up and running. I'm loathe to just have Colin run things himself, as it removes control from me and if I lose touch for any reason (like now) I'm on a sticky wicket.

We can archive scores there, among other things. I'm hoping to automate that similar to Colin's initial tests. Really what we need is to modify the forum to work as I want. Might have to start over to do that, might get away with customising this place. I need to follow this up with the Invision people.

I really need to sit down and do some planning...
