You know, even putting an emulated SID chip through the trauma of playing this game is making me weep... Better score, but stuck on level 1 (ironically, next go I got to night 2, but with less points...)

2850

(Superior did a much better Sinbad game, or there's the excellent Cinemaware title on Amiga and C64...)

Don't even have to play them, if it has Sinbad in the title it MUST be better than this. Hell, if it has a title full stop it must be better.

yes, well done indeed.

do not envy your position and you handled it well.

now all we need is a suitable way of destroying Arabian nights so no-one has to play it ever again... except kaiser who seems to love it.

????

who is your 1st two sentences referring to? You should use the QUOTE option to include the originators text in your posting so we know who you are speaking about

As for your 2nd paragraph; it's hardly surprising that I like it, since I picked it! :blink:

1 - er I think I was reffering to ant when he was mediating for the "leezer score issue thingy"

2 - I know you picked it :huh: . I was just saying, you're really pushing the love for this game!

I think that was all the questions...

oh... Try playing this game when hungover. It's like Hell's waiting room.

Yep, I'm getting very defensive about my selection. You can just feel the hate towards the game!!

I lost all my lives to that stupid eagle last night so I can sympathise/empathise.

As you can guess I owned this game back in 1984 for my c64. I can still remember going into to Boots to buy it with my Mum (yes, Boots used to sell computer games). £7.95 it cost me, £3 odd was made up with coppers that I had to count out penny by penny while the sales assistant waited.

Lucky for you lot my second choice didn't get picked then - BMX Racers by masteronic - now you would have really hated that. There's always next week mind ;).

Maybe I'll pick some of the better c64 games for next season, like; Wizball or Giana Sisters

I'm quite enjoying playing this game - it's much better than the Spectrum version which doesn't even have the same layouts and much worse graphics. It reminds me of an inferior version of Booty by Firebird, which was excellent for the Speccy - hmmm...might pick that next time... ;)

Maybe not - just loaded it up, and there isn't a scoring system as such, just the amount of booty grabbed. :(

If you pick Wizball I may well drop down on to one knee and ask you to marry me.

Wizball is the entire reason I'm in to video games. I owe a lot to that ball of Wiz.

Haha ball of wiz.

Sorry, already spoken for ;)

You could always nominate it yourself. Even if I did pick it, this will just increase the chance of it being selected (because there is 2 copies of it in the pool for any selection week). If say, my one is selected, you can then pick another game for your selection that season

I say we should just all pick Wizball and be done with it.... although we would all get a score of around 999.999 it would be fun :D

How come Elgin and Merman have the same score, but different league points?

The formula for working out league points also takes into consideration the placing in the league table, so whichever name is put above the other in the spreadsheet will have a higher score due to the altered variable.

From the League Rules thread

Scoring For The League

The points you score for the league are based on your percentage of the winning score for that game week and your finishing position in the leaderboard for that Game Week.
The formula used to determine the number of league points you earn is as follows:

(YS/BS*50) + ((NOP - YP +1)*(50/NOP))

Where
YS = Your Score
BS = Best Score
NOP = Number Of Players
YP = Your Position

The player who has the best score in any Game Week will automatically recieve 100 points.
The other players in that week will recieve points worked out using the formula above.
A combination of percentage and postion gives a much better indication of how the player actually did than a straight percentage system does. It also provides an incentive to keep playing to better your score even if you are miles behind the leaders since any increase in your personal best has the potential to score you more league points, as does moving up a place in the table.

League point allocations are calculated to two decimal places and are subject to being rounded up or rounded down.

The results are thrown at an Excel spreadsheet. That takes all the names and scores, sorts them into score order and then allocates league points based on those decsions. I assume that Excel sorts alphabetically when the scores are equal.

I was tempted to tell you Elgin got bonus points for being Scots, but he gave the game away ;)

talking of the formula....

(YS/BS*50) + ((NOP - YP +1)*(50/NOP))

can this be reversed so that the more points you have the less league points you get???

I have an idea and want to kinda test the water.

No. I'm not reworking the scoring system to suit racing games. If you want to play those, nominate one that allocates points like any normal game.

I'd recommend looking for other sites that do similar things to our league and checking to see if they've used racing games, if so ask them how they worked out the points.

If you gave me the formula reversed I wouldn't mind doing the scoring.

Rules out Monty Python too. That starts at something like 999999999 and you lose points along the way. :blink: :blink: :blink:

Well I may remain the lowest posted score, but at least I haven't wasted any more time on the damn thing. Better time spent in the pub, or Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on the XBOX 360. I may well quit my job to continue playing this.

How do you get over to the right hand side on stage 3?

I think I posted how to do level 3 earlier....... but you go up the ladder at the left hand side, and jump on the top platform, and then over to right and get the "R". You have now arrived at the right hand side!

I thought you weren't going to play this again! ;)

Just when I thought I might get a resonable score this time, someone comes along with a whopping score than means us mere mortals will struggle to get 50pts this week :(

Opa - am I doing something wrong, as this is another one where my my score is miles lower but I am one screen further. Theres not some cool bonus that I don't know about (like the skateboard bonus in Metrocross that I wasn't aware off)?

The only thing I can think of is that I lost two lives on the carpet level, been flying around for ages and then once the bowman got me and another time I hit a tree..
Found out after that you can hide under where your lives counter is and shoot both the archer and the carpet dude without to much moving around.
I hope there are some high scoring levels later because if not and you get to the end without losing silly lives, your score could be quiet low..?
I have now done the level you are on SirC but with a much lower score because I got through the carpet level first time..?

Well at least I am not missing anything obvious.

I have got to give credit to Kaiser too. I absolutely hated this game at first and so did almost everyone else. But he stuck to his guns and helped people who were stuggling (like me) and now I am actually having fun. I prefer this to NZS.
