Season 5.5 Master League; 5 games, 5 weeks, 1 Champion

Welcome to a new addition for Season 5.5 of the Retro League.

As we know in advance which games we'll be playing in the regular weekly league, this opens opportunities for advance/late play (at the cost of less playtime on the current week's game).

By request, we'll be compiling those scores into a separate leaderboard, so you can play any of the 5 games at any time over these 5 weeks and post a score here. Games from the current week will automatically have their scores entered here, unless a higher score has already been achieved in one of the previous weeks.
REMEMBER TO POST THE LEVEL YOU ACHIEVE.
I can't assess the validity of a level multiplier being used in the scoring system unless you give me this information.

All games should be played on default settings, I'll post details of the expected defaults later today. No continues allowed, no auto-fire allowed

The games voted for play in Season 5.5 are:

Metal Slug Super Vehicle 001, Nazca, 1996

Help

I can't get Metal Slug to work. The rom set mslug.zip comes up as unavailable on my mame and it's quoting an entirely different set of roms in the Audit to the ones I've got in the zip file.

Any ideas?

Check the Metal Slug thread for help first. I assume you've got the neogeo.zip BIOS file mentioned there...

As for posting scores in this thread: Yes. Unless its for the game we are playing in the current week. So in week 1, all scores except Metal Slug can be posted here. Note that these scores will NOT count as your weekly league score unless it is that particular game's week i.e. in week 1, Metal Slug scores will count for both leaderboards, in week 2 it's Bomb Jack's turn. There is no correlation between the Master and Weekly leagues other than that.

REMEMBER TO POST THE LEVEL YOU ACHIEVE.
I can't assess the validity of a level multiplier being used in the scoring system unless you give me this information.

Um, i'm confused, why are we posting scores for other weeks games if they don't get counted towards it? I thought that was the point? Master AND Weekly league? I thought I knew exactly what was going on but now i'm all $%£"%^r6^???????

Games posted here only count for the Master League unless it's this week's game. The other 4 games don't count for the weeklies as its not the correct week - rules are that the score has to be from the current week. Hence, in week 1, Metal Slug scores will count for both. In week 2, Metal Slug will be finished with for the weeklies, so it'll only count for the Master League.Bomb Jack will count for both that week as its the week 2 game...

In essence all you have to do to cmpete in both is play the weekly game as normal - your best score from the weekly will be entered in the Masters. If you wanted, you could return to Metal Slug in a later week and better your score. It won't change your weekly leaderboard score, but it could help you win the Master League.

Making sense now?

Do you really mean the fifth event (tripple jump?) , I always found that back in the day it was the archery which stumped everyone :-)

For the tripple jump if your really struggling run as fast as you can and just jump really early.

Your looking for a 35 / 35 / 45 degree jump and remember to wait a few seconds for your athletes leg to 'swing' round

Even if you jump way too early you should still make around 14 / 15 meters and qualify ?

Heh, I never had any idea how much a crappy, slow PC can assist you with playing MAME games.

Playing Bank Panic in full-screen at the moment on my parent's old PC with a TNT2, and it's a walk in the park. Shame that it can be used to such an advantage really...

Perhaps we'll need spec divisions soon ;)

That's just about it for the Masters. We have TWO leagues this time.

We have the 'Normal' league: 1 game per week. This works the same as it always has except the season will only last 5 weeks instead of 10. Week 1 is Metal Slug only. Week 2 is Bomb Jack only. You know the drill.

We also have the 'Master' league: Any game, any time, no exclusions, because we know in advance which games we'll be playing.

If you play the 'normal' league the same as we usually do, obviously you'll be generating a score that can be carried through to the 'Master' league, as the games are the same. I will AUTOMATICALLY transfer your scores from the 'Normal' weekly league into the 'Master' league, so you can ignore the Masters if you want.

The reverse isn't true - a score for the 'Master' league can't count for the 'Normal' one as it'll be the wrong week for that game (unless you post a Metal Slug score there in week 1, or a Bomb Jack score there in week 2, but that'd just be a pain in the arse for me to tally up).

There isn't a point at which you can't post a score for any of the games in the 'Master' league. You can play any of the 5 games at ay time and post a score in there. The only reason I asked you to omit the week 1 game from there this week was to make it easier for me to tally the weekly scores for the normal league - if you're posting for Metal Slug, do it in the Metal Slug thread if its week 1. If you're posting a score for Bomb Jack, do it in the Bomb Jack thread if its week 2...

Is this getting any clearer? Starting to wish I'd never bothered adding this new element. People aren't quite getting it. It was just a way for you to post better scores for games you kept playing after the normal week's play, or to play one of the other ones if the current week was a game you didn't like, without messing up the regular weekly scores.

Sunday is only the deadline for the weekly Metal Slug thread for the normal league.

For all games (including Metal Slug) in the Master League (i.e. THIS THREAD), the deadline is as stated in the first post:
All scores to be in by season end at 12:00 noon on Sunday 07/01/07.

Scores updated in first post.

But not the total one ? (sorry just wanted to see myself at the top of the table :-)

Happy now?

It doesn't have the scores for this week's Bomb Jack thread added yet though...

Would an inp file or anything like that help ?

Or possibly if you want to record one of what your doing and post it you could get some hints ?

Hi
I'm having problems creating an inp file (for Bomb Jack). I'm trying the obvious "Play and record input" then having a game and then pressing escape to come out of it again once I've posted a decent score. When I go back into the inp file using "File/ Playback input" it plays a totally different game- Help
!!

PS I'm using Mame32 Version 0.108 if that's any help.

ME.

Better score (at last!) for Black Tiger, one of the few times I've ever got to level 4...

110750, level 4
