Here’s my tips to getting the best scores out of Bomb Jack. 1 – Learn the patterns of where the bombs flash to get the best bonuses. Personally I always attempt to go for the 23 bombs on levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, 20 and sometimes on levels 15 and 19. I have managed to get 50,000 on all screens up to and including level 22. You should always go for 2 power-ups on levels 1-5,8,10,12. You can get 3 power-ups on 1 screen if, on the previous screen, you leave 9 flashing bombs and pick them all up. On the next screen the first power up will appear if you get 1 bomb and then the next flashing one. If you don’t collect any more bombs until after the power-up is gone you get the next one after another 10 flashing, then don’t pick up any more and repeat for a third power-up. One of the best levels to try this is level 10 – you can get over 200,000 on this 1 level if you play the bonuses correctly. Try not to leave 10 flashing bombs on a screen as when you pick them all up the power-up will appear when you get the last bomb so you miss out on that screen and it’s harder to get the power up on the next screen as well. 2 – The baddies have fixed movement patterns which I’m sure everyone can pick up however – They will generate on the opposite side of the screen to where you are, or on the left if you are right in the middle. At the start of each screen, or after you die, push to the left if you want them to generate at the right. Once they generate as the little men and drop to the bottom of the screen they will change into whatever they usually become, you have approximately 1 second or so where you can actually run through them once they have changed. Quite often if you do this with a saucer it will stop moving or only move very slowly and you can stop worrying about it chasing after you. On level 21 any non-birds you kill when you have the power-up will change from the diagonally moving enemies to really fast footballs and wizards so don’t kill them. 3 – Points You get 100 for a non-flashing bomb, 200 for a flashing one, 100 to 2000 points for the power up depending on what colour it is - 100 when it’s blue up to 2000 when it’s grey, from 100 – 2000 for baddies killed when you have power up, 1000 points for a Bonus, 3000 for an extra, 5000 for a special. All your scores are multiplied by up to 5 depending on how many bonuses you pick up on the 1 screen. You also get 10 points every time you jump or bounce off a wall/ platform, and also when the power-up is on screen every time you jump or bounce off a wall it changes colour so jump around until it’s yellow, then jump again to pick it up at grey. Bonuses come out every 5000 points up to a maximum of 5 times per level so check your score frequently (on the early levels) to see when then next one is coming out. Extras appear roughly every 10 to 12 bonuses. You can get almost 100,000 on the first screen but it takes a lot of patience. You need to do a lot of jumping around and bashing off the side of the screen to boost your score towards the next score which brings out the bonuses. Pick up the bonuses as soon as they come out, then work towards the next one. ME. |

570890 level 16 unfortunately, I don't think the level multiplier will make as much difference as I had hoped, as none of the games allow for much leeching (although I haven't played Black Tiger). If NZS, Tapper, or Arabian Nights had been picked then I think it would have made a huge difference to the scores. |

I think you are right. When i first mentioned level targets it was always about assessing the game in advance and only applying it to games like Split Personalities/Arabian Nights etc. But that approach would probably be impossible to use as it requires someone to either know the game inside out or to play tst it in advance. |

All the level multiplier seems to be doing is giving those people lower down on the list a lower score. Strangely, on Metal Slug, with the level multiplier, I was 7th but without it I was 8th and with a higher score!!

Hi IMHO this is a game where level multiplier is a factor in how you play the game. You can either try to get lots of bonuses on the earlier levels and risk losing lives but still get 30K or 50K per level or you could try to rush through as many levels as possible for a higher multiplier and take the bonuses only on the (IMHO) "easy" levels which are 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 16 and any other level which looks like 8, 9 or 16 as the patterns start to repeat after a while. That's a good point, someone could easily get a lower score than preious but at a higher level, yet not realise that the lower score would get them more overall points. |

I usually start level 5 by getting the three just to the below left of the start position, then waiting until the first baddie drops and changes into a flying saucer. I then leap to the top of the screen, in between the first two rows, and wait until the saucers home on you, swerving left around them to get the left hand column. If you are lucky, you might get a bomb appear and you can clear the baddies and get on with the rest of the screen. |

Level 5 tips (deep breath but I'll try and get an inp file to show this!!) Brief tips 1 - Flying around this screen in circles bunches the saucers together and makes them easy to avoid as they bunch together. 2 - When an enemy drops and changes from an alien into a saucer you have approx 1 second when you can run straight through it. Details - Start as a.j.green says by moving left and grabbing the first 3 bombs just on your left - then don't wait for the first bad guy to drop - move back until you are just to the right of the middle of the screen, then jump straight up to the top of the screen. This brings out the second saucer on your left. When you are at the top of the screen keep pressing jump quickly to move to the left hand side until you get to the left hand column. Drop straight down this column. This should bring out a powerup. If the next saucer hasn't dropped - Don't pick up the powerup, instead run along the bottom of the screen, wait for the saucer to drop then run right through it (this is a "bug"). Jump to the very top of the screen and fly across to the left hand side to draw the saucers together. It's so much easier to avoid them when they all move as one. Then pick up the powerup (you may have to do a bit of dodging about) and kill all the bad guys (don't pick up any other bombs). Move so you are to the right of the middle of the screen, then take 3 bombs to the right of the middle. Then start to repeat the following move Get to the very bottom right of the screen, wait until the saucers start flying towards you, then jump straight up into the air, pick the top most bomb off in the right hand side row when you fly up then when you are at the top of the screen fly over to the left by pressing jump quickly. If you do this about 3 or 4 times the saucers all bunch together and they are really easy to avoid. Then just pick off the bombs as they are flashing, grab the powerup when it comes out and finish off with a nice 50,000 bonus !!! Or on the other hand -just don't bother!! ME. |

Good question about completing games. Sometimes you get a large bonus for finishing games. Gryzor is one which springs to my mind - you get 1,000,000 for finishing it compared to about 300K for playing through till the end (or is it 30K?). Not always the case mind you. ME. |
