The game voted for play in Week 3 is Hyper Sports in MAME. REMEMBER TO POST THE LEVEL YOU ACHIEVE. I can't assess the validity of a level multiplier being used in the scoring system unless you give me this information. From last time this was played, tips from Zaphod79: 1) Timing is more important than speed 2) Every 'attempt' is a chance to score , so if for example you only have one qualifying score on the skeet shooting you will get less overall score than if you turn in 3 qualifiying scores 3) There are hidden bonuses in most events if you know where to look (some details below) 4) There are a limited set of 'patterns' for the skeet shooting A / B / C / D and then a number after each for the round you are on , if you perfect a set you move onto the next set and if you go round back to the skeet shooting you advance one. For individual events 1) Swimming , tie with 2nd place for a bonus , all down to timing for the breathing spots 2) Skeet shooting , perfect will give you a duck out , shoot it with the left target for a flying bird which can be shot multiple times (big points available) 3) Vault , as mentioned above hit any key to start the run , press the action button once on the spingboard , wait till the last minute on the horse then press the button again , and land 'straight' for the best score - hidden on this is do one spin and land on your head (although you will score higher by a good vault). 4) Archery , all down to timing watch the wind speed and adjust your shots , a 5.0 / 5.2 / 5.4 height and centre will give you a 'nice' for 600 points , get them all nice for a massive bonus (i've never managed it but have been 2 off it :-( 5) Tripple jump , run , first jump as close to the line as possible (touch the line for an extra speed boost) , then wait for the leg to move round for the other jumps , from memory a 35 / 35 / 45 angle is the best and if you get those directly a plane flies overhead for the bonus 6) weight lifting , hit the buttons as hard and as fast as you can , when the bar flashes press the action button , then hit the buttons again till you get the 3 lights , when you drop the bar hit both buttons as it hits the ground for a bonus 7) Pole vault , no need to run just hit the button once , press and hold action to plant the pole release to drift over the bar (press and hold the action button to drift more and hit the run buttons for a little extra lift or so i've always thought) , if you plant the pole perfectly (and keep your 1050 speed) a little mole pops out , for 1000 and then for each successive jump the bonus doubles Then back round again

Hi couple of additional tips Swimming - Once you take off don't bang the run buttons immediately, wait for a short amount of time before swimming- this also applies when you turn at half way but for a slightly shorter time. Skeet shooting - if the bird comes out of the right hand side - shoot it with the left gun and vice versa. I think Triple jump bonus is 35/41/45 - can someone who has got this lately confirm ? Pole Vault. This event seems to cause a lot of people trouble so here's how I approach it Tap run button to start running Press and hold jump when you think you are in the correct place to plant the pole Release the jump button when you are vertical Hit both run buttons quickly to gain more lift Once you are over the bar press and hold the jump button to drift over the bar, but watch you don't drift over too quickly (or not enough!) In my experience the mole bonus goes 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000 and doesn't get any bigger than that (I've seen 5 in a row) Finally I think (but need confirmation) that if you get a world record you don't always get the bonus. ME. |

If you get a world record on the pole vault then you miss out on the bonus , which can be a real pain at times. |

7 with a good landing *and* getting the first jump right on the very edge of the springboard should get you it ? And to change the keys in most versions of mame , hit tab and select the controls options from the menu (hit tab to go back to normal). |

Hit TAB and then go to "Input (This Game)" and ENTER to select. For Hyper Sports, Button 1 and 3 are the run buttons and 2 is the action button. You can also change the keys for "Input (General)" which means you don't have to change them for every game. 54400 Round 1 event 7 High jump again |

TAB doesn't do anything on my MAME
I have MAME32 and in its help files it says use TAB, but nothing happens :angry:Is the game running when you press TAB? Common mistake for MAME beginners is to assume this is done from the front end menu - its not. The front end is just a shiny add on. MAME has the key config as part of its core. |

I've had this before because i managed to change the menu key to something else , easiest way to fix it was to rename all the .cfg files to something else (.old or similar) , then re-run mame and it went back to the defaults. |

yes I am running the game when I try it. The keys set are Ctrl/Alt/space so they are pretty crap for button bashing Might try the .cfg thing tonight that zaphod suggested, or I might just stick with the score I have because I haven't gott passed that level too many times in the past anyway. |

262100 Round 4 - Vault Have really been struggling to get some time to play this week but have 2 screenies here - the first is my score at the moment : ![]() But the 2nd is the one i'm more proud of - the first time i've managed to finish the 4th skeet shooting , a bit of luck in there but it all counts :-) ![]() BTW vault 9.45 was a 9 summersault jump landing straight but not quite on the edge of the spingboard :-( |

Possibly tomorrow. I've not had much keyboard time in the last few days, just been popping in and out now and then to keep an eye on threads here and at RG. Back to work tomorrow so the routine will kick in. I need to concentrate and take my time to compile the scores else I make mistakes. Still - this is the first time I've been late and the League's been running for over a year now. Once that's done, I need a new nominations thread for Season 6... |
