The 'droid known as necronom has rebelled! Send in the Influence Device #001 to play PARADROID on the C64 ![]() ZIP FILE: Click this link for the ZIP file Unzip to get the D64 (disk) file. Drag it into Vice (Windows) or start it in your emulator. Space to skip the intro screen. Answer N to speed the game up Press H for High-score game Press L to load high-scores EMULATOR: I recommend Vice. http://www.viceteam.org In Windows, ALT+C saves a screenshot, use the dropdown box to select a PNG file rather than a bitmap (or go to the Snapshot menu, Save/stop media file) BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS: Standing still and pressing fire puts the droid into Transfer mode Pressing a direction and fire, or firing while moving, activates the lasers Destroy other droids by shooting them or ramming to cause damage The number indicates how strong the droid is. You start with 001, the Influence Device, that can take over and control other droids by Transferring. However, when you take over a droid, its energy will steadily drop until it burns out. Use the Energisers to replenish energy, at the cost of points Find lifts to move between decks. Find computer terminals to see a map of the current deck, a map of the ship and information on the droids (only those with a lower or equal number rating to your current droid) Transfer mode: In transfer mode, collide with a droid to activate the subgame. Press left or right to choose one side (and colour) of the circuit board. The aim is to get more lights your colour than the opponent. You have a limited number of pulsers to activate the circuits. Splitters and joiners should be fairly obvious. Auto-pulsers (arrow on the wire) keep working after you activate them. Colour-changers (square blocK) should be avoided If you lose, you get sent back to 001 - if you are 001, it's Game Over NO CHEATS/TRAINERS TO BE USED, NO AUTO-FIRE SCORES TO BE IN BY 1200, SUNDAY 10TH JUNE Final scores : 1) 55520 - necronom = 100.00 points 2) 34050 - Sureshot = 78.58 points 3) 26200 - Paranoid marvin = 69.43 points 4) 24225 - Zaphod79 = 65.57 points 5) 15820 - Elgin McQueen = 55.91 points 6) 13680 - Merman = 51.90 points 7) 12995 - RS200 = 49.20 points 8) 12715 - RocketRanger = 46.87 points 9) 10875 - Russgalleywood = 43.13 points 10) 8905 - Sputryk = 39.27 points 11) 8155 - Titch = 36.51 points 12) 7650 - Markopoloman = 33.97 points 13) 7585 - Freshmetal = 31.83 points 14) 7065 - Fr@ser = 29.28 points 15) 6880 - A.J Green = 27.03 points 16) 3750 - Antiriad2097 = 22.13 points 17) 2185 - Supermario = 18.63 points 18) 1635 - Collywobbles = 16.06 points 19) 1360 - Madge = 13.72 points 20) 1115 - TK421 = 11.42 points 21) 1000 - SirClive = 9.23 points 22) 465 - Fairziff = 6.67 points 23) 375 - Opa-Opa = 4.50 points 24) 250 - Smurph = 2.31 points |

No... Lets not... Why not stick you head in a blender and hit the power button for a much nice experience. I can never understand why people think this is a great game...? Maybe you have to be some sort of "techy nerd" to understand where the fun part of this title is... I'm going to spend the week removing the Keys off a CPC464 with a pen knife rather than even bother trying with this utter tripe again.... Here is my score of 0 See you next week people... ![]() |

I don't understand WHY you don't like it. Because you don't understand it? Read the instructions Because it looks bad? Clever representation of the decks, great graphics in the computer terminals Because it sounds bad? Clever title effect, some nice laser sounds Because it plays bad? Exqueeze me? Baking soda? Right. As if. It's a classic. Action, stealth, strategy, it's got the lot. Fair enough, if you want to post a score of 0 then do so. |

Not the ideal points based game, but a good game none the less. For PSP players, you can grab PSPVice here: http://perso.numericable.fr/ckckck/C64_PSPVice.html The Paradroid disk image provided by Merman above works fine with it. |

Because it is about as boring as it get's.... I'm not shocked it got picked, after all whenever anyone mentions a C64 you (Merman) always rave about what a fantastic title this is and how much you rate it. I have tried to get some enjoyment out this game a few times in the past after respected gamers have recomended it to me but it just bores the crap out of me... I guess it's a "Marmite" game - You love it or hate it... |

Had this on a C64 DTV joystick, which unfortunately came with no real instructions, so I was always a bit stumped on it. Got the hang of the "fighting" now though, with the circuit-board layouts, I'm just not really sure about the rest of it. What's the actual goal? I assume it's to reach #999 or destroy every enemy? Here's the best I can muster so far, as a droid high in the 500's. I found a droid in the 700's, but he shot me once and knocked me back to #001, then shot me again and killed me. Latest: 3160

Well I adore this game
.. always have always will. In my Top 10 of favourite games for sure. Even my gf reminices starry-eyed how she used to love this on her brothers C64 (even though for years she thought it was called 'Arkanoid'!) .. imagine the confusion on my face when she started to describe it to me! .. "but .. Arkanoid is a bat and ball game .. it hasn't got robots with numbers on ..."Great choice Necronom! .. to anyone who don't like it? ... it's all horses for courses! |

The aim is to clear the decks of all sixteen freighters of droids. Hard to give a "points" list - you get points based on the level of robot you take over or destroy, then you lose points when you use the energisers. |

The only time I've been out at the start of a league week, and it's my choice. Anyway, I did a Paradroid website as a "learn how to do HTML" exercise a while back (together with my Uridium part). So if it's any use here it is. It has deck plans and droid info. I haven't checked the other links posted above, so mine might be a load of old cobblers, but you can have a look if you want to. I did have the high score on the Paradroid remake by "Ovine by Design" for several months, but I don't count myself as as expert on the original. Maybe I've improved, as it's been a long time since I played it properly. I think the last time I beat Fr@ser was with Uridium, so fingers crossed for this one |

Couple of tips - 1.avoid the explosion caused by enemy droids when you kill them , as this will heavily damage you 2.For tournament play , don't use the re-energisers , as your hard earned points will rapidly vanish - just switch to another droid . 3.Get good at grappling! If you cant grapple , then you won't get far. Study the board before committing to one side - look for a side on which your opponent is unable to convert blocks to his colour.Remember that the computer is a complete dumb-ass at this section , let him start using his arrows first before you use yours , especially if you only have a few. Tonight , I beat a 821 droid with my 001 simply by letting him commit his arrows first |

It's not to reach #999, I just did it twice in one game. I'm finding it's easier just to hold onto fire and ram everyone, as long as you win the cirtcuit board games you're fine, and there's a lot more chance of that than beating them in a fire fight. The #711 guy had better firepower than #999 Would post my score here, was four thousand odd but the screenshot it took on the PSP is shite at best. More to this game surely? |

I kind of disagree (soz Opa mate). Posting a score of zero should get you zero points. To get points for not playing is just wrong. I also think you should then not have your games in for next week. Allowing a score of zero gives no guarantee that they have played the game further than loading it and pressing start, so goes against the point of the 'play to get your games in the pot' rule. I may well be in the same camp as Opa, as I don't really have any desire to play this one, but I will either post a score or I will accept my games not being in the mix for next week. A rules clarification is required I reckon (even if you just tell me to shut up and allow a no score). |

I DID play the game to get a 0 score, I loaded the same ROM as everyone else and took the screen shot to prove I played it. I don't mind getting a score of zero but I DO want my games in the mix for next week, thats the whole point of me posting a score. I have no intention of playing this rubbish again but I will if i need to get a point on the board to get my choices included. |

Guys, the whole point of this League is to have fun. I'd much rather see Opa TRY TO PLAY THE GAME PROPERLY and post a score. Weapons hint... You start off with the low-powered twin laser. This will be your weapon in any droid with a number of 420 or lower. Most droids will need two hits 476-615 have a single high-powered laser, will destroy most lower ranked droids with one shot. 629 has twin high powered lasers The class 700 battle droids (except 751, known as the Paradroid) have disruptors, these drain energy from all droids onscreen (black&white flashing effect). Including yourself, so use it sparingly and re-energise regularly 821-999 have twin high powered lasers doing a LOT of damage |

I agree with you Merman and would add that it is also to try out games you would otherwise have passed by. For example I loved that Bio Mechanical Toy game in a previous season and would never have given it the time of day before this. Sureshot's recent comment about only playing Paradroid for 5 mins before echoes this I believe. I think Paradroid is a very simple game but incredibly strategic and the transfer game is sometimes the best bit! The fact that you can have the best robot in it and be reduced to a pile of rubble in seconds makes it a intense and thoughtful game, it's not just about blasting everything to smithereens. Would definitely be near the top in my top ten fave games of all time along with Howard the Duck on the Speccy of course. I would much rather play a game like this than some of the mindless blasting games we have had in previous seasons, though there were some good ones I admit! |

Fantastic choice for this week. Cheers 'randomiser'!
Can't see why this game can be so hated. It is possibly the greatest C64 game of all time (a close run thing, though) and one of the best of any system in gaming history. If I can find the time I envisage a healthy score - I have cleared 3 full ships on the C64 original! Died almost immediately on Ship 4 due to a 711 lurking around the corner. Grrr...! Still prefer (though almost imperceptibly so) the Speccy's Quazatron and, but for it's control method (use of keyboard on the Speccy was clumsy) would have chosen it as my gaming option. As it is, thoroughly enjoying this Season (partly due to both my nom's being picked!) and just wish I had a bit more time to give the games a decent effort. Sorry, Opa. I don't agree with posting a score of 0. Loading-up the game and then screen-grabbing without any effort to play is just not cricket. And to lose purposefully is not in the spirit of the League. Show yourself some respect and post a credible (if terribly low) score to gain the rewards for taking part. There's a good chap.
