Opa-opa's old man is a refuse collection operative... For the last week of the current season, we have TRASHMAN on the Spectrum http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0005391 Depending on the emulator you use, you will need either the TZX or TAP file Brief introduction Pick up the dustbins from the side of the house, take them to the back of the lorry and shake out the rubbish. Put the bin back in the same place, then go and talk to the house owner for bonus points and time. Don't walk on the grass - you'll get attacked by a dog, or cancel the bonus chance Avoid the traffic and the cyclists on the pavement Settings Start on day one Dustbins are picked up automatically when you move over them Move over the same spot to drop the bin back in place Scores to be in by 1200 on Sunday 31st June Final scores : 1) 26990 - LeFosse = 100.00 points 2) 20058 - necronom = 84.53 points 3) 8795 - Sputryk = 61.03 points 4) 8643 - Opa-Opa = 58.12 points 5) 8460 - Sleeper77 = 55.15 points 6) 7893 - Freshmetal = 51.46 points 7) 6584 - Paranoid marvin = 46.41 points 8) 5384 - SirClive = 41.55 points 9) 3765 - Zaphod79 = 35.92 points 10) 3564 - Leezer = 32.92 points 11) 3268 - RS200 = 29.74 points 12) 3085 - A.J Green = 26.77 points 13) 2740 - Fairziff = 23.50 points 14) 2726 - Merman = 20.84 points 15) 2227 - Sureshot = 17.28 points 16) 1727 - RocketRanger = 13.73 points 17) 1359 - Antiriad2097 = 10.41 points 18) 1082 - Supermario = 7.27 points 19) 600 - Titch = 3.74 points |

Excellent choice, there's nothing else quite like this one. Will also work nicely on PSP via PSPectrum. Haven't played this in a while, but its harder than it first appears. Practice will make it less frustrating., there's a definite knack to the controls. |

Havn't played this in a long time. Just gave it a quick go and the memories came flooding back... especially as I was run over by my own garbage truck as it entered the screen! I do like the stupid conversations with the home owners though. Latest: 1717

Is the scoring broke on this game? I got to 3,753: ![]() Then my time ran out, so it took half my score away, and put me back at the start of the level, where I ended up being killed with a much lower score of 2,860: ![]() If I'd known it cheated, I should have just ran in front of a car when my bonus was getting low. What an unfair scoring system! Are we counting our best, or the cheating final score? I don't see why we can't grab the screenshot when the "Too slow" screen is on, as that's a valid score. Opinions? |

Not at all. In Paradroid, you decide to exchange points for energy. It's up to you. In Trashman you can get to almost the end of the level, run out of time, then it takes off all your score you got and puts you back at the start. The next go you might get hit on the first road crossing and end up with less than half the score you managed the first time round. That is totally unfair. If you had died and the end of the other go, you would have a much better score than when you survive Anyway, I've manage to get much further, so for now I'm not as annoyed as earlier. This game is very random though. I was doing really well, then a 100mph car hit me on the first time I tried to cross the road on the next level. I had no chance. |

What a load of old bollox. We have had to put up with Arabian Nights, Paradroid, Thrust and you complain about Spectrum games Other than this and Deatchase (which in my opinion is one of the greatest 8 bit games of all time) I can't remember many. I hate to see people dislike a game and then slag of a whole computers back catalogue on the stregnth of it. |

Klive or ZX32 BTW does anyone know how to snapshot your score in ZX32? As far as Trashman is concenred , yes it is pretty boring , partly because it is so slow and building up a score takes an age. The random death by speeding car can be pretty annoying. You have to remember however that this is an early Speccy game , and for it's time was extremely innovative and better than most other titles around IMHO Travel With Trashman is a far superior game Oh , and games get picked randomly - they only get picked if someone nominates them ,. This season we've had 1 Speccy and a couple of C64 games , the rest have been MAME. |

Ok, I'm done with this one for at least a few days. Don't like it I'm afraid. The cars are too random and the sluggish controls don't allow you any reaction time to avoid them. Oh and apprently walking on the roadside grass a few paces is enough to get you cautioned, lose you your bonus and force you to start over. Latest: 3324

Personally, I'd happily play a game on a ZX-81, an Oric, a PET, or even an Amstrad! I have no problem with any platform being chosen, though I know some people do. I usually enjoy the computer games more than the arcade games. Probably because I've usually played them before, or know a bit more about them than the arcade games. |

LOL it lookslike its back to the old speccy vs. c64 chestnut again, personally i was a commodore kid, the c64 was light years ahead of the sir clive doormat, basically it goes like this :- 1. better more solid graphics 2. 1000000000 times better sound but thats not what its about really.... 3. more responsive controls, and hence 4. better games. saying all this there are some spectrum games that even with their piss poor graphics/sound better even the best c64 games in my opinion, they are :- skooldays (and back to skool) manic miner underworlde alien 8 knighlore the above games are timeless and despite they were all created on the biggest pile of shite excuse for a computer, they are all games that had me rather envious of bein a c64 kid. mind you apart from the 6 games listed above, the rest of the spectrums 5000+ ?? catalogue are a fucking embarresment including twatman..oops sorry i meant trashman.still at least it gives the league a bit of originallity instead of countless mame games all the time, and i welcome that |

I could get drawn into a format war, but I don't think that is important to this. At the end of the day, far more C64 games have been nominated and played than Speccy so I think it was a strange comment for TK to have made. But his opinion on speccy games is fine. It's only like my opinion of Amstrad games
I will be nominating 2 Spectrum games next season though

It's a nice little game, this. It doesn't seem to hold much replay value, however. Don't see myself coming back to it anytime soon. If you stay focused, only cross the road in the middle, and keep off of the grass (which requires quite a bit of patience with the sluggish controls), it becomes tedious rather too quickly. That truck driver is one hell of a bastard, btw! My score: 15,934

That link to Stu's site was brilliant. As for the screen shot thing, it has an option under the file menu, but it saves as a BMP, which is completely useless. I use the "Alt-PrintScreen; Paste in Paint Shop Pro; Halve size (using "pixel resize"); Save as PNG" method. |

I downloaded both versions from the page linked to in the first post, but I'm having problems. Klive doesn't seem to want to load either, while in SPIN061 I can get as far as the name entry screen, but can't do anything else except press the space bar and return to the main menu. Any ideas? I'm a total novice when it comes to Speccy emulation so I'm probably missing something obvious or don't have the emulator configured correctly. |

Having played the game a few more times, what it does is this: if you run out of time on a level, it resets the score to the score that you had at the start of the level. This has the side effect in this league of not allowing players to build up scores by repeating easier levels just to leech points - a good thing surely? 3085 ![]() |

Hey Elgin, Using Spin, download the TZX version of trashman. then goto "file" then "insert tape" and select the trashman.tzx file - It should work from this. (you get a title screen and with the options). If it doesn't work then I suggest scrubbing your version of Spin and downloading/installing another, it could be that your 48k.rom is corrupt. To take screenshots is not easy, as I always get a black screen when trying from Spin, so I would use the print screen key on your keybaord and then go into paint, do a ctrl+v and then cut out the screen save it as a jpg and post / upload in normal way. I Hope that helps buddy if not PM me! |
