A break from shooters and MAME this week as we go all '64 with Apex's fantastic Mayhem in Monsterland!![]() NEW VERSION: Please download this file, which was tested during the Lemon64 competition and should work with VICE/CCS 100%: http://c64.hardwired.hu/games/m/maym.zip You play the part of a small dragon and your job is to restore the land back to it's natural self after it has been changed to a drab and unhappy state. The task is accomplished by stomping on enemies which sometimes drop magic, collect enough of these and deliver them to the head dragon and he can change the land back. Afterwards you can once again play the level but this time you can collect stars which are scattered around the level and once you do you can find the exit and complete the level. For emulation I would use VICE. Tips will be put here just as soon as I have written them! No Trainers please Final Scores : 5965500 - TodayisForgotten = 100.00 points 5897100 - LeFosse = 96.09 points 5741650 - Leezer = 91.46 points 5601300 - Merman = 86.95 points 5462000 - Zaphod79 = 82.45 points 4292850 - Robinfriday = 69.31 points 2200800 - A.J Green = 48.45 points 227550 - necronom = 28.57 points 147200 - TK421 = 24.57 points 117500 - Sputryk = 20.98 points 92850 - Supermario = 17.44 points 30650 - RS200 = 13.59 points 21400 - Sssblack = 10.18 points 13600 - Antiriad2097 = 6.78 points 9000 - Paranoid marvin = 3.41 points |

I'm having probs getting this game to start. It loads up - I've gone through all the cheat options but after "In game keys" the screen just goes black and I can't get any further. Any tips ? Am using Win Vice X64 program BTW if that helps. |

How long have you left it SM? it comes on about 10 seconds after you press 'n' for ingame key trainer. Which version of winvice are you using? I am using 1.20 and it works a treat - i'm playing it now! |

Have left it for about 60 secs - also tried pressing all the keys (one after the other). I'm using version 1.2 as well. |

that's very odd SM. Maybe worth scrubbing your winvice DIR and installing it again incase it is some strange setting which is not letting it work. I take it you are "autostarting" the image? |

I had that at first, so I enabled the full drive emulation option and it worked fine after that. I had a quick go, but I think I'm missing something. I'll have to read a review. |

This game is a superb technical achievement, but it's not a favourite of mine. I can imagine this being very hard to play with an xbox controller. I'm using keys myself. 5,383,850

Now that my score has had its intended shock effect, let me divulge that you get a massive 5,000,000 bonus after the first stage (both sad & happy) if you get all the stars and score multipliers! Also, when this was played over at Lemon64, most of the versions of this game turned out to have bugs. As far as I know, the best version out there is this one: Mayhem in Monsterland |

Go to the Options menu and make sure True Drive Emulation is ticked. You'll get a red LED display in the bottom right to show you when the "drive" is working. Collect the "rabbits" in Happy Mode to increase the score multiplier up to a maximum of x5. It will gradually decay again. Also, if you "skid" across the finish line (pick up the charge (thunderbolt) icon, hold fire and run sideways, then hit the opposite direction to the one you are facing) you get bonus points... |

Wait until it says "run", then do it. It keeps switching back off, or not loading if you do it before then. It does for me, anyway. I don't find anything fun about this game. In fact, at the moment I don't like it at all, and I might not play it ever again. I tried to find a video on YouTube, to see where the fun is, but I couldn't find one. Here is my pathetic score: 28,250 ![]() |

Hmm looks like this isn't my week - Once I load up the image it asks me for a colour code and whatever I type in (well OK I've only tried it about 5 times) it asks me to put in disk2, which I load and then just stops at the "READY" prompt. Any more help please guys ? |

Are you using VICE? If so, when it asks you for the second disk you should: Press Alt+8 --> select the second disk --> Attach After that the game should load after pressing the fire button! Hope this helps!

LOL, major typo there! Maximum possible score is around 26 million, I think... you get 1 million for collecting all the stars on a level, and if you have a x5 multiplier then you get 5 million. So 5 levels times 5 million, plus all the other points... |

I believe it's only on level 1 and 5 that it's possible to get all the stars. I have read somewhere that the team had other things on their minds than making sure that one could get all of the stars on each level. So, I'd say the maximum's around 12 million points. |

Funny thing is that I hadn't even heard of this game until about 3 years ago  My C64 was long gone when this was released! The Amiga was the cause! Although not my fave game on the C64, I think it shows what the sexy breadbin could achieve graphically. Here's hoping Leander for Amiga pops up soon!!!!! |

Ssh..., I struggled initially to get the game working. I then did the following (as far as I remember, anyway): I opened two windows for the VICE location (using Version 1.21). I accessed the zip.file of Mayhem and dragged out of it the only icon I found in there into the general VICE list of icons. (with me so far? I hope so!) I then accessed the C64 player and then accessed File. Chose auto-play and, from the options available in the window, selected the Mayhem icon that had been dragged out of the zip. 'Space' gets rid of the initial screen and answer 'N' to the 4 questions. Lo! MiM up-and-running. B) |
