Great choice , and a good one for keyboard users (is there really any other way to play it?)

This one should sort the miners from the minors!

Hooray! My choice!

Handy tip - pressing the keys H J K or L turns off the tune if it is getting on your nerves!

Yes!!! With a joystick (a Zipstick in my case). I would probably have a score of 10 if I tried to use keys.

Turning off the music was one of the first things I did :)

Now my BEAST of a PC is built and running, I'll be able to play!

Why turn the music off??? Its one of those classic speccy tunes that I actually like!

What emulation device do you use for this?

(not that I've had brilliant luck with emulators in the last week!)

I use EmuZWin - a good emulator that loads most games.

There is a link to lots of emulators here:

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

and EmuZWin can be downloaded here:

I use ZX Spin which can be downloaded from the World Of Spectrum website. It's the only emulator for the Speccy I have ever used and, thankfully(!), I have not had any problems. Choice of game is the TZX format.

Grr..., struggling with this one. I used to 'clock' the game many times in a row and get fed-up. Now I am finding the Warehouse rather awkward and know that Level 19 will be a real pig to do - there's a quick way (avoiding the lightbeam) and a slow but easier way which is almost impossible to undertake on subsequent visits as you run out of air! Maybe I should get some practice on these two levels by firing up my Speccy and typing in the cheat-code to choose a level! :P

I chose the game because I love playing it, not because I am any good at it, but have found that I've got further this week than I ever did in the time spent playing it in my youth!

And it's still great fun.

Obviously not where you guys have been!!!

What on earth am I doing on this game? Does he always automatically jump when you move? I can't get him to walk normally. Clearly I'm missing a lot here.

Um..., might it be either the emulator you are using or the version of the game/download?

Alternate keys on the QWERTY row are left and right. The Z-row is jump. The A-row turns the in-game tune on/off. Other keys (including cursors) I don't know.

Basically, collect all the keys and leave by the flashing exit. Some require a very precise jump to do so (Pac-Man level for one). Avoid everything that moves and everthing that is static and not a platform or stone wall/protruberance. Be wary of disappearing platforms! There are 20 Levels which repeat ad infinatum.

Great video! :D

Used to play this on the C-64 more than 20 years ago, yet it feels like I played it only yesterday. Quite amazing how much information lies dormant in our brains.. Made it to The Warehouse!

Er, the EmuZwin??

I extracted everything to a Spectrum folder on my desktop, used the EmuZwin icon and browsed->loaded the game. The guy stands still but as soon as I push left or right he jumps that direction. And what am I meant to be doing, collecting those keys??

Can you kill the bad guys, any info would be great!

This is a very odd problem, there's nothing about it in the FAQ.

Try loading another game into WinZEmu and see if that is doing the same. If it is, or if you want to try another way, try ZXSpin, which is available here:

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

Just click on the download link and you should be away.

Managed to get past that pesky Kong, sailed through the next one, and got very near the end of the Endorian Forest. Bah!

Scores should be updated in the next couple of minutes.

Hey, Le Fosse, great score, which screen did you get to with a score like that?

Thanks! I made it to "The Warehouse" which is the screen right after the aptly titled "The Sixteenth Cavern", so it's probably the 17th screen! :)

That was laughable :D

I can understand for those born in the 70's that was "retro" and bought back a few memories but I'd rather wipe my bum with sandpaper than play that again. Only putting in this joke score so my nominations are in for next week.

Thank you for all the help with getting it running, and maybe I'm just not getting something... but each to their own opinion, and my verdict is:

Pants. Classic or not, boring and pants.

Warehouse. And I had it sussed! Having collected everything I jumped a fraction too soon to get out of the way of the 'white lift', and it was Game Over.

Next up would've been more Amoebatrons, the Power Generator and then 'Home', before doing it all again with less time available.

Sshblack - your high score on the screenshot is 300 not 100

And TK you might need to have another go - or at least another attempt at a picture since your image seems to be blank :-(

Realised that you can get some bonus points by pressing the second lever on the Kong levels and send the monkey to his doom!

It's amazing how fast it all comes back to you. I remember in '84 I spent the entire summer playing this beauty of a game. everyday for 7-8 hours for like 35 days! no way would I put that kind of time into a game now.

Will play it more today.

I've been playing this on my DS with the Speccy emulator. Very suitable for portable play, they should do a remake on the DS! :)

Managed to finish the game, then died on the mutant telephones level the second time around.
