This weeks dificult question - whether to 'twin up'? Vital for challenge stages but almost guaranteed to lives lives rapidly in the standard game. Deluxe Galaga on the 'miggy is better

It's working on my XBox MAME. I'll have to use that and take a photo of the screen.

which version number of mame are you using? The version numbers of the rom and mame have to match, hence the missing .bin files. Let us know which version you are using and it'll be easier to find the correct rom.

Syd, Trust me when I say it doesnt work, been using mame long enough to know when things are naffed. Ive tried running it on in order

Mame32 v.035
Mame32 v.066
Mame32 v.103
MameUI v.129

So thats 4 different sets of Mame spread over 10 years of development from 5 different sites I think I can safely say it doesnt work

Cheers

Doesn't work for me either. Well actually it does if I use mame32b-036 but due to a compatability issue with vista I have no joystick support with this version >:(

Should be able to play it (briefly!) at work on my PC which uses XP.

*re compatability* - I'm still using a pretty ancient MAME set 0.112 and although it says that the graphics arent 100% accurate it works fine for me.

Wow , just found myself 'in the zone' tonight , and boy that took me back . I was dodging the bullets and blasting away just like I used to do. Either my reflexes arent what they were , or I'm far too much out of practice with simple arcade shooters (probably a lot of both) , but for 10 minutes I was on top form.

I doubt I'll beat this score , but I thank you for choosing this title to give me a remembrance of better times.

That is possible....just....because as I now realise that this game only needs 3 buttons. Didn't enjoy it though, will wait til I can get a pad working before I have another go...

i have uploaded the newest version of mame v0.139u1 with hiscore.dat support to my mameworld webpage and included a galaga romset in the zipfile,
go get it here :- www.mameworld.info/highscore/mame_0139u1.zip

if i were you i would use a frontend like emuloader with it.
this is for all those of you who cant get galaga to work.

ps. the rest of you might wanna download this just for the mame with hiscore.dat support as its no longer supported in regular mame builds.

download the hiscore.dat from same webpage www.mameworld.info/highscore/

cheers

Some great scores!!!

Personally I shall be happy if I can crack 100K :erm:

This is another game I seem to have missed back in the day.

I know when US gamers mention 'the Golden Years' of arcades both this and Ms. Pacman constantly get mentioned.
However, from a UK perspective I can never remember playing either Galaga of Ms. Pacman in the wild - Galaxians and standard Pacman were always much more common as I recall.

I concur that S20 is shaping up very well with it's initial two titles  Thanks for the noms :)

Funny , I remember the same thing , *everywhere* had Galaxians (and clones) but i only really knew one place that had this (and at the same time had Mr Do! and Super Pac Man which were both 'unusual' titles.)
I also remember a *LOT* of pirated ones , everywhere had Crazy Kong rather than Donkey Kong (i remember how odd that looked and sounded when i first saw it while on holiday)

Hint for first two challenge stages

Double up within first two levels. line up your left hand ships bullet between the first and second number(unless you have played before and you have a 100k+ then it is the second and third number) in the high score at the top of the screen. Then stay there and you can score a perfect :D

Try pressing Tab when it starts up and go to DIP switches and check what the setting for "Service Mode" is - if it says "On" change it to "Off" and exit MAME then go back in (and don't preess F2). Unfortunately if that doesn't work I'm stumped !
