Wikipedia page :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis_%28video_game%29

Quote:

Atlantis is a variation on the shooting game genre popular in the early 1980s. The player controls the last defenses of the City of Atlantis against the Gorgon invaders. The city has seven bases, which are vulnerable to attack. Three of these have firepower capabilities to destroy the Gorgon ships before they manage to drop bombs on one of the settlements. The gun bases have fixed cannons; the center base fires straight up, while the far left and far right bases fire diagonally upwards across the screen. The enemy ships pass back and forth from left to right four times before they enter bombing range, giving an ample opportunity to blow them away. Lost bases can be regained by destroying enough Gorgon ships. However, regardless of the player's efforts to avert the tragedy, Atlantis is doomed. The only way the game can end is when all bases are destroyed. However, then a tiny ship rises from the rubble and speeds away, foreshadowing the events of the sequel Cosmic Ark.

No he doesn't, but paranoid marvin does ;)

I don't know this one, but from a pic I've just seen, it looks good.

My game, yay! Hope you guys enjoy this. Outside of the big 2 of Atari and Activision, Imagic were the creators of some of the best games for the 2600, and along with Cosmic Ark this is probably their most well-known game. It's an interesting variation of Missile Command , and although I'm not the greatest player , here are a few tips. Use the outer cannons as much as possible , especially on the earlier levels ; this not only gets you used to judging firing angles , but also scores double points - great way to double your tally whilst things are relatively easy. The samll ships are buggers to hit , but usefully act as smart bombs. If you're REALLY brave , wait until they are on their bombing run llevel and blast them with your centre cannon , as this will usually take at least 1 other ship at the same time

It's not what I was expecting. I thought it was a Scramble clone from the pics.

Just load Stella, then choose the zip file from the file requester to run it. No need to uncompress it or anything.

Afraid it still does the same - on Win 7, and have tried running it in Windows 95 mode.

Did you get it from the link in the first post? You probably did, so maybe get either a different version of Stella (I use 3.1.1), or try another VCS emulator.

Loads up with Stella 3.2.2 so should be OK - Cheers.

I think the best tactic is to shoot from the gun that the ships are flying towards, so if the ships are flying from left to right, fire diagonally from the right hand turret. You seem to have more chance of hitting that way.

Amazing what we used to think of as a good game. I showed this to my 16 year old son and he couldn't believe how little there was to do in it........................... and he thought it was 'crap and pointless'

Shame that a few people not that keen on my selection , I knw it's not the greatest game, but still think it's fun for a quick 10/15 minute blast , with games usually lasting no more than 5 minutes. Bit of a difference from last week when the average playing time for Mercs was a good 20 minutes or so! Back in the day I thought this game had fab graphics , and was incredibly atmospheric - maybe I'm still wearning those rose-tinted specs!

- 70,600 - Its not a bad little game at all, it's just that there isn't much variety in the gameplay, it's frustratingly hard and not very satisfying to play. It is very pretty for the 2600 though, and not the worst game this season.

Hi there,

Last score for the week I think.

43200

Enjoyed the game, even though it was somewhat simplistic.....Not always a bad thing where I'm concerned :P

Been a fantastic season so far - So it would be at the bottom of my list so far....But in other seasons it could've been mid-table :)
