I've been wanting to restore these guys but haven't made too much progress until recently. Had time off work a few weeks back so I was able to build a shelf for them and they now live in my living room. Our old house had a basement that was fairly climate controlled but the new house only has a garage - so I had to get them inside before it gets cold. But now that they're inside I want to get them restored even more. I've gotten Chuck's arms reattached (they were detached at the elbow, torn apart inside from sometime in the past) and had a new shirt made for Crusty. I still need to give Chuck his missing teeth and bow tie, and Crusty needs the design placed on his shirt. Would also like to give them a better cleaning. I also need to get some material placed behind them - right now I only have some cardboard covering the window behind them so they don't get sunlight damage. Still have Chuck's portrait frame in storage. Later on once I'm able to put them into a permanent display I'll get Chuck back in his frame and will try to have it replicated so Crusty can have his as well. This is the progress so far. I'll post more photos in this thread as things move along ![]() ![]() |

Hey Travis. When you are restoring them are you going to program them to sing? Also you can try to post updates on how Chuck and Crusty are doing on YouTube. If you have a channel give me a link or the name of it. |

That is the 3rd portrait bot. That was at the second location in San Jose which opened in 1978. But I would like to see for the 40th anniversary of CEC. Or some kind of Pizza Time Theatre thingy.

This is an absolutely fantastic find! A curtain was mentioned earlier in the thread; do you still have plans to build that?

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Also, just how exactly did we even manage to find Crusty to begin with? I mean, he just came out of literally NOWHERE, man... |

Hmmm, honestly, what's the point of restoring the bots if you don't use/run them? |

They are the only known portrait bots and they're worth restoring. Attempting to run them could ruin them. |

Is Travis an optical surgeon? Then he could probably fix Chuck's lazy eye! |

I remember hearing somewhere that he is fixing his lazy eye by taking a few cosmetics off. |
