I've been wanting to restore these guys but haven't made too much progress until recently. Had time off work a few weeks back so I was able to build a shelf for them and they now live in my living room. Our old house had a basement that was fairly climate controlled but the new house only has a garage - so I had to get them inside before it gets cold. But now that they're inside I want to get them restored even more. I've gotten Chuck's arms reattached (they were detached at the elbow, torn apart inside from sometime in the past) and had a new shirt made for Crusty. I still need to give Chuck his missing teeth and bow tie, and Crusty needs the design placed on his shirt. Would also like to give them a better cleaning. I also need to get some material placed behind them - right now I only have some cardboard covering the window behind them so they don't get sunlight damage. Still have Chuck's portrait frame in storage. Later on once I'm able to put them into a permanent display I'll get Chuck back in his frame and will try to have it replicated so Crusty can have his as well. This is the progress so far. I'll post more photos in this thread as things move along ![]() ![]() |

Also, Crusty's facial area doesn't look like it's made of latex, but maybe that's just me. If that's true, then maybe it's possible to get Crusty up and running? |

Does Crusty have a "skull" that the fabric features of his face are built upon? If he does and it's fragile, that might be what's preventing him from being able to move again. |

An earlier post said that he has no skull, and the points on his head are hollow |

If you restore them will they be able to move or just be on display? |

The fandom's idea of "if you don't use them you shouldn't own/restore them" is extremely irritating. I've been told multiple times that I should sell my Warblettes to 'someone who will appreciate them more' because I have no interest in operating them. I don't want to operate them. I do not have space to operate them. And the same will happen with my Fatz. And Click. And everything else. Nobody has any obligation to run their animatronics. They are still extremely awesome being on display and that doesn't make the owner any less passionate or 'worthy' to own them. It's the same for other collectibles. I have an authentic Noid costume from Domino's Pizza. I would like to restore it, but I am never going to wear it. It's going on display with my collection. Does that mean I shouldn't make it look nice or even own it? TL;DR people can do whatever they want with things they buy /rant over Edit: I think I just realized why people keep their collections private. Edited by Cavity Sam, Jan 5 2016, 01:54 AM.

But seriously though, they are MEANT to be moving! Not just stand there doing nothing for 30 chuckin' years! If I had one I would care less to have space anyways. I would program those things. But do I control anybody? No, so you can do whatever you want. This is just my opinion

Is it this hard of a concept to grasp? THEY ARE FRAGILE! You wanna see them move? Well say goodbye to the last remaining portrait bots surviving! We lost jasper, pasqually, and munch! If you want them to dance, they will dance their way into a puddle of melted latex with brittle plastic and fur. Animatronics with latex are hard to keep undamaged.Having them run would either make them hot and melt, or rattle their peices loose.

I'm cringing over this. So your suggesting we just buy foam, destroy the originals? |

I'm not even going to comment on that foam remark. I just felt it's worth mentioning, for anyone who thinks it would be easy to strip the fur off of these and remold the latex parts, when latex is fragile like this it WILL tear and stretch out when you try to remove the fur. I experienced that working at CEI. There's just no way to safely remove the fur if it's glued on very well, so Chuck and Crusty could very easily be permanently damaged/destroyed if the fur was removed. |

It's just a mask... Why is everyone acting messed up over this? Ooooh, so the fur is with the latex? The body's made out of latex? I don't really know at all. Edited by Retro Trash, Jan 6 2016, 02:03 AM.

Let me put this simply: Chuck E and Crusty are too fragile to move. They are the last portrait bots ever. |
