I've been wanting to restore these guys but haven't made too much progress until recently. Had time off work a few weeks back so I was able to build a shelf for them and they now live in my living room. Our old house had a basement that was fairly climate controlled but the new house only has a garage - so I had to get them inside before it gets cold. But now that they're inside I want to get them restored even more. I've gotten Chuck's arms reattached (they were detached at the elbow, torn apart inside from sometime in the past) and had a new shirt made for Crusty. I still need to give Chuck his missing teeth and bow tie, and Crusty needs the design placed on his shirt. Would also like to give them a better cleaning. I also need to get some material placed behind them - right now I only have some cardboard covering the window behind them so they don't get sunlight damage. Still have Chuck's portrait frame in storage. Later on once I'm able to put them into a permanent display I'll get Chuck back in his frame and will try to have it replicated so Crusty can have his as well. This is the progress so far. I'll post more photos in this thread as things move along ![]() ![]() |

Latex hardens with age. It become brittle. If you move it, it will break. These are the last Portrait bots ever(not exactly true but there's more to the story) and no one can afford to break them as there is NO replacement. |

Why are you looking at me funny?
|
When you say "There's more to the story," what happened? Is it possible there are other portrait bots? |

It's just that when you have something that nobody has ever seen in action, and you have the capability to make them move and let people see for the first time, you should do it! They were made to perform! The latex is made for a moving object. It can handle it. |

Don't Smoke Crayolas!
|
Not when it's that old. Especially if the latex has hardened rather than melted (not sure if that's the case here). They were made to perform with proper upkeep and replacement parts, not with 30 year old masks. |

Well this guy is our only chance to see them move. It's boring watching them sit around. |

Chuck E and Crusty CANNOT MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their masks to to fragile. Just his 2 yr. old daughter poking Chuck's nose damaged the latex! If they move, they will be destroyed. |

Yeah. That is what I meant. It kind of had the same resemblance of the 1977 Portrait Chuck. |

Maybe, just maybe, we could look at their parts and replicate them, that way we have both the originals, and a copy to operate, even if we can't it is still amazing that Chuck and Crusty are still around, even in this condition. |

Wether you find one in a church, or a pizza a parlor, a rat is still a rat..
|
With so many fans trying to make their own bots, perhaps someone with real talent will come along and make something similar. Certainly not exact, but at least similar. |

Yes the Prototype cosmetics which Ron brought out for CV9. Other than that there's no other portraits outside of Travis. He's been hibernating for a while.. |

if they need to move like everyone says they will die there like in a coma right now the only way they can dance is with nothing on no cosmetics or fiberglass and I think if he took the latex mask off it will break instantly |

If you could do it I think you should. But what's the point in destroying it ifor the odds are extremely high it'll rip. As everyone else said they're old and should be perserved. I know this topic is old but I wanted to give my own opinion. |

I kind of have to agree. The latex is worth something, but can't they be restored? |
