I'm surprised I haven't found a topic on this place yet...has anyone else here checked out the 2 OFW locations in Illinois? I usually trek down there maybe 2-3 times a year to see the NRAE (at least the Naperville location). I made a stop there while in Streamwood opening a new CEC this past June to see the show, and quite honestly I think it's pretty watchable considering its one of two NRAE that I know of still in public restaurants. Naperville the employees are usually pretty polite when I ask to watch a few shows...just a shame the last turntable doesn't work so the Dook bot will never be seen by the audience. As far as Tinley Park, the one time I drove there they refused to play the show saying it wasn't working. |

If this was a classic RAE there would be a HUGE flamewar over it even more than the people attempting to get this show. |

Facebook. I feel like I should take down my entire post, if I could wait 2 years...I could end up snatching it. I have couple of ideas for these band. I could order an semi-truck trailer and have these installed and up for rents. (Think like Bear-A-Dise RAE.) People can rent them for a day to any time they wish, I see this as a opportunity to promote the characters and use the money earned from the rental toward them to keep them in top-notch shape. |

Why would anyone rent a show that just barely works? I don't mean to harp on this but the turntables don't work and without the turntables working the show isn't really anything to look at even if everything else works (and the show has other problems beyond the turntables not working but the turntables are the big problem because the whole concept of the show is built around them). I sure wouldn't want that NRAE playing at my State Fair or event! The whole purpose of an AA show is to give the guests something entertaining to look at and to keep them hanging around so they spend money on food and games (or whatever you're selling). A broken-down show has the opposite effect of that- it's an eyesore and would probably turn guests away. The Bear-A-Dice traveling trailer show is a mess and I'd be embarrassed to haul it to a State Fair and run it in the condition it's in. No, it's not the worst RAE I've ever seen but it's pretty bad. Now, if we're talking about a Classic RAE in Good or even Excellent/flawless condition, that's something else altogether! That is worth showing off! ![]() The NRAE was a problematic show from the beginning and 22 years later it's not worth the cost of trying to fix it because you'll never recoup the money even if you have the money to fix it and even if the show was reparable to something close to 100%. You may as well throw your money into Looney Bird's oil barrel and light it on fire because you'd lose the money just as fast if you buy a used NRAE from Odyssey Fun World. Odyssey is selling the show because they know they can't fix it and they've gotten as much milage out of it as they can. The show is an eyesore instead of an asset. Spend the money on a Classic RAE in halfway decent shape and work to restore it to as close to perfection as you can get instead if you absolutely must have a RAE and plan to make money with it. I can see your point Paul! BUT: To be completely honest, I would love to buy it. Allthough there have always been severe problems with this show it still is part of CEI's history, and you don't see them as much as the Classic Rock-afire Explosion. I know I would have to put alot of work and money into repairing and restoring them but you could also take them apart and make something new (remove the turntables from the middle stage for example). Yes, I know that this would take a long time but still, as I said. I would go for it if I had the money. |

This is video that Showbiz CEC posted of the Tinley Park show. Here is his description of the video. He writes:
So sometime between 2011 and this year center stage stopped working altogether which probably explains why they want to get rid of it. With a show this old (obsolete), and seemingly fragile, you can't really properly maintain the NRAE to keep it functioning at 100% (working turntables, all movements working, etc)- especially now that there really isn't a fully staffed CEI anymore like there was back in the early 90's when these shows were still being produced (again that's not anyone's fault- it's just the way it is). Unlike a lot of cases, I'm not blaming the FEC for not maintaining the show because it's pretty much impossible to keep the show running for 10+ hours a day for years and years without it breaking down like this. I wonder when the last time was that the turntables worked on either of the two Odyssey NRAEs? Edited by PaulKTF, Oct 7 2015, 12:09 PM.
