Why do people hate this show? It's about Rolfe and Earl, so it can't be that bad |

I'd really like it if I could call The Rolfe and Earle show good, but I can't. I mean, on the surface, it's just a clip show and that alone could be considered enough to call it mediocre, but then there are the segments with Rolfe and Earl. The roles are reversed for one thing, with Earl being oblivious and Rolfe being competent, and then there are the really poor impersonations. It's really off. Not quite right. I'd call it a kind of uncanny valley type thing, it's just kind of weird to me. And then there's the factor of the show being played while stores were in the process of removing the RAE. Removing Rolfe's friends. Gradually skinning and then retrofitting them while Rolfe continues to perform in-between before they skin and retrofit him too. I'm probably reading too much into it because of my abnormal emotional attachment to Rolfe, but it just doesn't feel right to me. If you like the tape, that's cool, opinions will be opinions, but I can't. I just can't. I mean, I don't even hate the show, I just find it depressing and a bit difficult to watch. |

While I can understand why people don't like it I don't have strong feelings about it one way or the other. At least they didn't just turn off the show during the switch and try to pretend nothing was happening. But I have to admit when "Rolfe" was describing Chuck and asking "Earle" to guess who it was and he said "They're having a birthday party for Mister Ed!" I laughed so hard I about fell out of my chair. |

I honestly found it hard to watch. The voice impressions were not that good and it just seemed kinda weird all around. I know this is kinda silly but knowing it was the CU show made me feel bad for Rolfe and Earl. It made me think of them being forced to perform as their friends were slowly "killed" off, skinned and replaced with them both both knowing full well the same thing going to happen to them in the end. I know they are just machines, but the whole thing felt really sad and almost morbid to me. |

My thoughts exactly, in more concise wording. |

I feel the same way about any retrofit. When I was taking those pictures and video at Boise, I couldn't help but think of the old Rock-afire characters under the new cosmetics. If you can take any consolation out of CU and this showtape, think about what has happened to Chuck and friends over the past 15 years or so and picture the Rock-afire characters going through the same thing. At least the RAE characters have remained relatively unchanged since the 80s. Those of us who grew up in the PTT era got to watch the characters we remember changed in ways we don't necessarily like or agree with. I do think CU was a sad situation all around, and I think of several ways it could have turned out so much better if events had unfolded differently. But I do understand the reasons behind the decision the company made. Keep in mind understanding is not the same as agreeing. Edited by 80sgirl, Jan 18 2015, 11:47 PM.

It actually took me a while to get over that when I first started watching videos of 3-stage CEC shows. When I saw 3-stage Chuck I couldn't help think about how it was actually Rolfe underneath the new cosmetics for example. I agree with that as well. Seeing the characters radically changed would almost be the same as seeing them discontinued in CU. Look at how different the original Chuck E. Cheese is from the newest version. They might as well be entirely different characters. One good thing I guess is that the RAE stuff is a lot easier to acquire for collectors and occasionally new material is even produced for them by Aaron and the other original voice actors. I don't hold any ill will towards the company at all. It was just a business decision and I understand the reasoning for doing it. It's still sad things had to turn out like that though. |

Something about it just makes me cringe...I think it might be the butchering of Rolfe's voice. |

I don't really hate it.......but I don't love it either It's like a really good TV show getting a horrible TV series finale....it resolved nothing and it felt like they wanted it to be done as fast as possible |
