1986's "Time Machine"- The Worst Rock-Afire show ever.

Anyone else think that the "Corporate Voice" show "Time Machine"

http://showbizpizza.com/review/rae/1986_timemachine.html

is the worst show ever? It's the one where the characters travel through time. The concept doesn't make any sense, it's poorly executed, and the songs and performances are terrible.

It comes up on Radio Showbiz quite a bit.

Nope, that 'honor' goes to the Rolfe and Earle (sic) Show, the last showtape produced. Hey kids, let's pillage your memories and rub your face in what we're doing!
I got pranked with that once. DO NOT WANT

Wanna know whats worse than Time Machine? Hits. showbizpizza.com was right, Mitzi singing "Somewhere" is one of the most painful moments of RAE history. :earl:

I don't think the concept itself was bad. PTT used the same idea as a framing device for Madame Oink's Tune Machine showtape (which is probably where it came from) and it worked. Now that I think about it, the Time Machine RAE showtape is more or less a rehash of the PTT Tune Machine. The voices and the scripting and the singing on the other hand... Ew. I actually like a lot of the original songs on this showtape, but not done like this.

It was made about the same time they made the also abysmal History of Rock showtape for CEC with the Chuck replacement voice actor who was so bad the store owners wrote complaint letters demanding they rehire Scott Wilson. I wonder if the ShowBiz store owners started complaining too. I guess that's why I can stand listening to the post-merger CEC showtapes better than the corporate RAE showtapes. Even though the writing and dialog isn't as good as the PTT era showtapes, least the CEC characters got to keep their old VAs.

I probably don't want to say this but, "History of Rock and Roll" as actually MUCH better than SPP's cooperate voices. It actually introduced Bob West to CEC and Chuck and Munch's voices aren't slow and dull as what they did with the RAE.

I kind of like PTT's History Of R&R- the performances are pretty good. I just wish they'd done full songs instead of 45 second bits and pizzas.. er.. pieces. :)

In my opinion, the singing isn't so bad as to make me go "I NEVER WANT TO HEAR THIS AGAIN!" but I can agree it isn't their best hour, especially when the characters start talking. It all sounds like such a mockery; it isn't quite the RAE. Fatz in particular sounds really sarcastic and not at all genuine when he speaks.

I guess for me I'm nowhere near as offended by this showtape's music as those that got to grow up with the RAE are because I grew up with the MMBB, who's band members have all had several VA changes over the years, and actors' voices have changed over time as they grew into their role(s). That said, I do find the content offensive when I think back to what they were.

Exactly! Over time Duncan grew into the role and strayed from what he'd been doing, which was emulating Scott's take on Chuck E. Whether or not straying from that emulation was something corporate told him to do or if it was something that just naturally happened over time, I don't think anyone will ever know for certain (unless we ask Duncan himself).

Although the content of Time Machine is questionable the programming of the show is actually done quite well for it being the first show that Showbiz programmed.

i like early duncan i prefer the early to mid 90s versions of songs like baseball diamond dreams to when they remade them in the 2000's. route 66 from January 1994 show is my favorite cec cover
