I heard that there was such thing as Chuck E Cheese commercials in 1979. So if we look very hard, we might find a short 3 second clip of the portrait animatronics. |

The franchise brochure mentions TV spots, so yes there were commercials back then. I don't think there's any video online however. |

There's a good chance they're lost by now. VCRs existed but were very expensive so most people didn't own them. |

There's a good chance some of the original video tapes still exist, somewhere. Not talking about tapes recorded by consumers, but the commercial tapes sent to the TV stations. Out of all the commercials I've been able to date, this one is definitely the oldest. Too bad it's incomplete. It has Harmony which would put it around 1981. They used that kid chorus jingle in their advertising for the first couple of years in the '80s. I heard it so often as a kid it bored its way into my brain to the point where I could remember it almost 35 years later, even before FNAF rekindled my interest in CEC. I don't see why one wouldn't re-post the link here. This forum is for all of us who love PTT and it's not Mr. Munch's Maze after all :-) |

From what I can find searching for "training video" this is the clip in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TPfyUAdZCI Not 100% sure on that but it's the only clip fitting that description also purporting to have 1977 footage. This claim is almost certainly false. While the footage at the beginning shows the outer facade of a PTT with a very vintage style which perhaps did date back to the late '70s or very early '80s, I do not believe the footage is quite that old because: 1) the automobiles in the parking lot look like they are from the early to mid '80s and are not '70s. 2) The footage blends seamlessly into showing Showbiz Pizza with the same film grain, and Showbiz Pizza did not open until the early '80s. If I had to guess I'd say 1982 but that's just conjecture. I do not see any footage in the video of the portrait/shelf show. All of the Chuck E. in this clip is from the balcony era or a later balcony show with mixed elements from other eras. Let me know if anyone else finds footage claiming to be from the '70s era. Actually, I think this is the video Patrick was referring to. The portrait bots appear very briefly at the 6:24 mark. It's not vintage footage, it's from when they were on display at headquarters before some idiot threw away Jasper and Pasqually. Chuck and Crusty eventually ended up with Travis. Incidentally, does it bug anyone else when the company says something like "when we opened the first Chuck E. Cheese's"? PTT was pretty much dissolved during the merger and AFAIK very few of their employees above the restaurant level were kept on. Showbiz bought them out and pretty much crawled inside their skin. It would be like if Disney went bankrupt, then Warner Bros. bought them and said they created Disneyland. Edited by 80sgirl, May 8 2015, 03:40 AM.

It looks like there was a commercial leaked on the internet but it might not be there anymore. I found this old archived page of the Showbiz Pizza Forums. It said that there was one on the internet. http://web.archive.org/web/20070519210750id_/http://www.showbizpizzaforum.com/forumdisplay.php?s=1100e7ca12cb52d03e4b62bb0e1a42d6&f=17 Edited by CECArizona, Sep 14 2015, 10:16 PM.

Yes, it bugs me too and it's not just you. They've kind of swept the real history of the companies under the rug by this point.
