Since I plan on restoring Chuck, I figured it was time to make a thread. First post is more of a record of where I'm starting from.![]() The good: He has all his body cosmetics. They're in great shape. Has all his cylinders and a valve bank. Parts seem to be in good working order. The bad: Mech is missing the right forearm and hand. Whites of the eyes are marked and discolored. Irises are chipped, scratched and also mismatched. No nose. No lower lip. No tongue. Is that white thing supposed to be teeth? The unknown: Status of cylinders, valves and other mechanics. (No compressor or controller to test those yet.) Working on either getting the old right forearm/hand from the previous owner or a replacement from another member. Eyes are really important to a character, whether they're 2D or 3D. Here are Chuck's. ![]() Now you know why I've taken most pics with his eyes closed. I think the iris on the left eye is newer, or at least intended for a different bot. It's a different size, and the lines are painted in white. The pupil is off center too. I'm hoping to find a replacement that matches the smaller one on the right eye. Lots of wear on both from the eyelids rubbing against the surface and taking the paint off. My plan is to fill the chipped areas with epoxy putty, then sand smooth and repaint. Eyes I can keep shut, but the nose and teeth stick out all the time. Still waiting on most materials, but I got tired of looking at the pull tab hanging from his mouth and made him some new teeth from some imitation leather. I looked at pictures and guessed on the size and shape, but I think they turned out pretty good. Even though he still looks weird without a nose, the new teeth make him look much better already. ![]() On figures of this age, they used French stretch terry fabric to cover his nose, snout, jaw and lower lip. The tongue was made from satin. The previous owner reupholstered his snout and jaw, but didn't use the same type of cloth. Unfortunately, stretch terry is not easy to find except online. The pink fabric looks fine so I'll leave that for now until I can find the correct fabric. My plan is to give him a new nose and recreate the lower lip and tongue. I ordered black and red stretch terry from fabrics.com. Hopefully they should arrive next week. There should be plenty of fabric left over if I have to redo them if/when I find the correct pink cloth. I hope to work on him a little each day. |

I will make him a new tie but I've been very busy and what time I have for working on animatronics goes into working on Charlie. I want him done in time for Chuck's birthday on the 17th. His dimples are missing. They were originally small pieces of flexible plastic covered in cloth and attached to the foam. Chuck's snout was reupholstered by his previous owner. The cloth PTT used is no longer made, so his owner used some kind of plushie type fabric. I'm not sure if the original cloth (with dimples) is still underneath or not, but I'm going to leave it until I find the right type of cloth to use. Then I will decide what I want to do with his dimples. |

I understand that it was in bad condition, but to me, it was magnificent. He can be identified as Chuck, not an "animal robot" or something. He's got everything... Sorry for the odd bump. Haven't caught up with Charlie for a while. |

What makes you think that? It's common knowledge to be on the 17th. |

It's been established that the first store's soft opening was May 22nd..The grand opening was May 22nd so Corp recognizes that as his birthday. It wasn't common knowledge until ~2004 and the old boards AFAIK(wasn't on there then-was a lurker circa 2012) |

That's because Charlie will be used as a guest mech. |

No, Chuck will be used. Charlie is an original Chuck E. while Chuck is more of a Guest mech with parts from a Munch. She will be using Charlie as her Chuck and Chuck as her Guest/Harmony. |

This is correct. I will be using Charlie's mech with Chuck's cosmetics as Chuck E. Chuck's cosmetics are in better shape. I will use Chuck's mech as the guest. It will become less confusing when I swap their cosmetics and start work on the guest. Also, just to clear things up Winchester's soft opening was the 17th. http://showbizpizza.com/info/promo/ptt/ptt_ad_1977winchester.pdf Personally, I think Chuck's cool enough to have two birthdays.
