Since I plan on restoring Chuck, I figured it was time to make a thread. First post is more of a record of where I'm starting from.![]() The good: He has all his body cosmetics. They're in great shape. Has all his cylinders and a valve bank. Parts seem to be in good working order. The bad: Mech is missing the right forearm and hand. Whites of the eyes are marked and discolored. Irises are chipped, scratched and also mismatched. No nose. No lower lip. No tongue. Is that white thing supposed to be teeth? The unknown: Status of cylinders, valves and other mechanics. (No compressor or controller to test those yet.) Working on either getting the old right forearm/hand from the previous owner or a replacement from another member. Eyes are really important to a character, whether they're 2D or 3D. Here are Chuck's. ![]() Now you know why I've taken most pics with his eyes closed. I think the iris on the left eye is newer, or at least intended for a different bot. It's a different size, and the lines are painted in white. The pupil is off center too. I'm hoping to find a replacement that matches the smaller one on the right eye. Lots of wear on both from the eyelids rubbing against the surface and taking the paint off. My plan is to fill the chipped areas with epoxy putty, then sand smooth and repaint. Eyes I can keep shut, but the nose and teeth stick out all the time. Still waiting on most materials, but I got tired of looking at the pull tab hanging from his mouth and made him some new teeth from some imitation leather. I looked at pictures and guessed on the size and shape, but I think they turned out pretty good. Even though he still looks weird without a nose, the new teeth make him look much better already. ![]() On figures of this age, they used French stretch terry fabric to cover his nose, snout, jaw and lower lip. The tongue was made from satin. The previous owner reupholstered his snout and jaw, but didn't use the same type of cloth. Unfortunately, stretch terry is not easy to find except online. The pink fabric looks fine so I'll leave that for now until I can find the correct fabric. My plan is to give him a new nose and recreate the lower lip and tongue. I ordered black and red stretch terry from fabrics.com. Hopefully they should arrive next week. There should be plenty of fabric left over if I have to redo them if/when I find the correct pink cloth. I hope to work on him a little each day. |

Just a quick question... How did you and/or Damon find the Redwood City show? I'm just so confused as to how you found it...? It seems like a 1 in a million chance that somebody could find something so amazing! I just want to know so that I know what to do in order to try and find one. |

Someone on a pinball/arcade forum had a big lot for sale because their dad used to work at/owned a PTT franchise. That included some arcade machines, the show, and other signage. I wish I had seen it sooner..lol |

Close. What happened was shortly after I got Chuck I started a thread on restoring him on the KLOV forum. The name is short for Killer List of Videogames and it is probably the internet's largest forum devoted to arcade and redemption games. I created the thread because I knew the people there were interested in 80s arcades and in the hope it might scare up some memorabilia or accessories for Chuck, who was still completely naked and not working at the time. I figured maybe a bot if I was lucky. Some of the people who post there are current or former PTT/CEC/Showbiz employees and I knew they held onto things. Signatures on KLOV are very limited, but I made mine a little message on how I was looking to buy CEC stuff from the "red derby hat" period. You can see that thread here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=347575 It's basically a copy of the information in this thread and I still keep it updated. A bunch of people were interested because they visited PTT stores as kids. Anyway, about a year ago I went on vacation and didn't log in for awhile because there were no updates on Chuck. While I was gone, the seller who owned the show stumbled across my thread and sent me a PM. I didn't get it until a couple of weeks later, but in the meantime he got tired of waiting and posted a for-sale thread over there. A bunch of the people who had read my thread told him to PM me and when he said I hadn't replied they encouraged him to wait. When I got back I got in contact with the seller. The seller's dad wasn't related to PTT, but he was an eclectic collector who bought all kinds of odd stuff. I swear, we were completely blown away at all the stuff the guy had when we went to pick it up. It looked like something you would see on TV on American Pickers. When the store closed due to a sprinkler mishap the seller and his dad went to the closing auction. His dad had a thing for fast food memorabilia and when he saw other people buying Jasper and the Warblettes he decided he had to have everything else. He bought the show and some odds and ends, loaded it up and stuck almost everything in storage. Pasqually sat in the bar area of his house for many years, and he hung the clapper board over the bathroom and rigged it up to go off whenever someone opened the door but pretty much everything else stayed bagged up in a storage shed the size of a small warehouse for 30 years. In 2007 the father passed away and his son inherited everything. The shed was so full you couldn't even get inside. It took him until last year to clear to the point where the show was at and he started looking for a buyer. He saw my thread on KLOV and the rest you all know. So it was a one in a million chance, but I didn't go looking for the guy. He found me. But it was because of a seed I deliberately planted and kept watered. It just paid off better than I ever expected. Keeping the KLOV thread updated keeps me fresh in the members' minds and I still get PMs from people there who find CEC stuff because I'm the first person they think of. I visited my parents last week and my mom came back with me for a few days. Yesterday she helped me with a special project. New boxes for Chuck and Charlie, and a new base for Chuck. Eventually these will be covered with black cloth.

The PTT fabric was a single sided terry... (smooth on one side and the terry loops on the other). In comparison, a terrycloth towel has the loops on both sides! Here is a link to a foreign wholesale company who has a very similar product. http://www.customprintfabric.com

No, because she is using Chuck's cosmetics on Charlie. Chuck will be used as a guest (as he should be). |

Got a couple of accessories for the bots today.![]() I was going to put it on Charlie, but it is a walkaround vest and getting it on a bot requires unbolting one of the arms. I didn't feel comfortable taking Charlie's arm off, so on Chuck it went. Not quite as sexy as a new vest, but this 30 gallon air tank should make it easier for the compressor to keep up. It was running at least once every few minutes with just one bot, now that there are two this 30 gallon air tank will make it so the compressor motor runs longer but less often.

Well, pretty soon it will be moot because I'm almost ready to move on to the next phase where I put Chuck's cosmetics on Charlie's mech. Then there will only be one and Chuck's mech will become the guest again.

You should make one a Chuck E Cheese (Charlie), turn Chuck into a bare bot with a tux, and put the rest in display! |
