Since I plan on restoring Chuck, I figured it was time to make a thread. First post is more of a record of where I'm starting from.![]() The good: He has all his body cosmetics. They're in great shape. Has all his cylinders and a valve bank. Parts seem to be in good working order. The bad: Mech is missing the right forearm and hand. Whites of the eyes are marked and discolored. Irises are chipped, scratched and also mismatched. No nose. No lower lip. No tongue. Is that white thing supposed to be teeth? The unknown: Status of cylinders, valves and other mechanics. (No compressor or controller to test those yet.) Working on either getting the old right forearm/hand from the previous owner or a replacement from another member. Eyes are really important to a character, whether they're 2D or 3D. Here are Chuck's. ![]() Now you know why I've taken most pics with his eyes closed. I think the iris on the left eye is newer, or at least intended for a different bot. It's a different size, and the lines are painted in white. The pupil is off center too. I'm hoping to find a replacement that matches the smaller one on the right eye. Lots of wear on both from the eyelids rubbing against the surface and taking the paint off. My plan is to fill the chipped areas with epoxy putty, then sand smooth and repaint. Eyes I can keep shut, but the nose and teeth stick out all the time. Still waiting on most materials, but I got tired of looking at the pull tab hanging from his mouth and made him some new teeth from some imitation leather. I looked at pictures and guessed on the size and shape, but I think they turned out pretty good. Even though he still looks weird without a nose, the new teeth make him look much better already. ![]() On figures of this age, they used French stretch terry fabric to cover his nose, snout, jaw and lower lip. The tongue was made from satin. The previous owner reupholstered his snout and jaw, but didn't use the same type of cloth. Unfortunately, stretch terry is not easy to find except online. The pink fabric looks fine so I'll leave that for now until I can find the correct fabric. My plan is to give him a new nose and recreate the lower lip and tongue. I ordered black and red stretch terry from fabrics.com. Hopefully they should arrive next week. There should be plenty of fabric left over if I have to redo them if/when I find the correct pink cloth. I hope to work on him a little each day. |

Very sweet of you to program Chuck to sing a little birthday tune for your niece. I'm sure she loved it!

Here's the link in text format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5E-L_oJOTc I left it unlisted so it wouldn't get FNAF spam comments on it before she could see it. I'll make it public after I'm sure she's seen it. Edited by 80sgirl, Jul 25 2015, 12:51 PM.

Time for an update. I purchased a sewing machine to make Chuck's clothes, but there's a pretty stiff learning curve so I'm trying to learn the basics on cheap dollar store pillowcases before I start on the real material. The Chuck/Guest mech originally had a metal back bar that stuck out from the shoulder bar and prevented the neck fabric from getting caught in the head turn and lift cylinders. You can see it in this pic of Slappy's guest mech: ![]() Unfortunately my Chuck is missing this bar. So I improvised one with a metal coat hangar. It took me forever to find a place that still sells them. Most retailers only sell plastic hangars these days. ![]() ![]() It makes a big difference in how his shoulders look. Before: ![]() After: ![]() No more sagging in the collarbone area. |

re you thinking about getting a thicker bar for the back? I can see that the metal coathanger wouldn't last as long as the original/thicker piece. |

If I find a real back bar I will replace it. The problem is they were removed for the new cosmetics after 1990. So only the bots from stores that closed before 1990 have them. Even then, a lot of them were ripped off by accident due to people using them to move the characters. So I don't expect to find one anytime soon. Even if I have to replace the coat hangar eventually, they're super cheap. I got 10 of them for under $1.50. |

To make a thicker bar you would need to buy a Plain straight bar and the bend it but to get a perfect bend you would need a metal Bender since bending with yourself might get the Demensions wrong Using coat hangers are good since you do not have that problem |

I don't think it's possible to bend a steel rod of that diameter by hand, unless you're a bodybuilder on steroids. ![]() Chuck is not running all the time, so I think the coat hangars should last a good long while. He is enjoying his semi-retirement. After 20 solid years of performing and sitting neglected and incomplete for almost a decade, I figure he's earned it. Oh, and just because I don't want to leave you all hanging with no update, here's the start of the next phase. ![]() ![]()

Yes, he will have his original vest. I have the original fabric for the outer part. I'm not sure exactly what the yellow bib part is made from, so I may have to try some different materials. I also have a line on getting him a tux. |

I have an outfit idea for you! It would be pretty cool if you made Chuck E.'s Bandstand outfit. He looked pretty spiffy when he wore it back in the Pizza Time Theatre days.

I like the bandstand outfit and derby. Menutia said many of the shows were sold off during the time the bandstand showtapes were running, so the outfit is relatively common compared to Chuck's other outfits. Jenn Waitt has the only checkered vest, and Slappy has the only all original brown vest. I might try to copy it sometime. Don't really care for the giant blue frames they stuck on him, though. I do plan on making him a Crocodile Chuckee outfit at some point, though. Maybe for Halloween.

The Crocodile Chuckee outfit is not a bad idea either. They're pretty much lots of outfit ideas for Big C. Good luck on finding all of the materials for future outfits, and great job on the restoration project once again! Big C. looks great!

Chuck himself is now complete. I may decide to do a few cosmetics tweaks later and there are still clothes to make and things to do on the back end, but it still feels great to have reached this milestone.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
