What's the ideal temperature to keep Latex Masks? should i just stick them in the freezer when im not using them? |

Ah, a big no to the freezer. Latex will deteriorate over time, but if you care for them, your masks can last a good long while. The most important thing is to avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat which cause breakdown. Store latex masks in cool, dry rooms or closets. If the mask is going to be stored for a while, stuff it with plastic bags or dry cotton batting to keep it's shape and put it in a large box to protect it from dirt and environmental pollutants. I talked to Rick Lazzarini on skype recently about this (although it was foam latex but it should be similar). He said to store it out of the sun in a cool room and putting your masks or characters if possible in a bag or similar.. you want to prevent air as well from degradating the latex. You could store foam latex (and likely latex too) for many many years and still use it fine this way. Sorry for reviving an old thread but I hope it would help someone out preserving these relics of the past (or their hard work). |
