Occasionally i'll see what's on ebay that has to deal with Showbiz. During my search, two items always show up: tokens and mugs. I am beginning to believe that alot of these mugs are fake. I don't believe that many mugs exists and they will be in great (almost new) condition. |

You do know that people can make SPP mugs. They are not fake but , well, made by fans, for fans. Do you even think that SPP shirts also are fake? |

Yep, I do believe that they are fake. I consider them fake if they were not purchased at SPP. Compare the Showbiz mugs to the CEC mugs, you'll see a difference. |

You can compare the mugs to pictures of the originals. The ones I see right now look legit. |

The Showbiz logo trademark has been abandoned by CEC so I believe anyone can make or sell anything with that logo on it. I know Travis has sold custom-made stuff with the SPP logo on it and 80stees.com sells two shirts with the SPP logo.

Buyers beware! I purchased one of the mugs a few years ago. For now i'll tell myself that it is legit and was purchased from Showbiz. But these mugs that are looking brand new are indeed in question. |

Printing a new logo is one thing; finding the exact mug style seems less likely considering they were produced with a cheap Chinese polymer 30 years ago. Unless you're talking about the glasses. The glasses have RAE characters, which are still copyright protected. Also, not many people want to spend $25+ on them, I think. So, there are a lot of them on Ebay-- have been for years. I accidentally dropped a glass and a mug from the same height once. They clay mug shattered, but the Showbiz glass is fine. So, they may be immortal. Realistically, what I think might sometimes be questionable are the "painted tokens". They were literally just spray-painted tokens. Those are kind of sketchy. Also, I totally own a bootleg Showbiz shirt. It's great. |

The animatronic show up for sale likely isn't a fake, if that's what you're referring to. I can't fathom someone spending major time and money figuring out how to rip them off if they've just got one set of them. Now, if you started seeing a whole bunch of them popping up on eBay, Craigslist, etc., then I'd get worried. As for tokens popping up on eBay, I always think those sales are pretty sketchy, especially those 'rare, OOAK coins' with holes drilled through them and whatnot. Such a scam! Considering the dust, missing parts, costumes, etc...I highly doubt that it is fake. If it is, someone has wayyy too much time on their hands, and Aaron needs to hire them. Thanks. I do apologize, I was actually talking about the glasses. They look too 'new' to say that they glasses are almost 30 yrs old. I purchased one a few yrs ago, used it a few times, and I can see where the paint has started to chip. Some of these glasses do look different. By looking at this page, i'm sure it's possible to get it done. http://www.discountmugs.com/category/wholesale-personalized-drinking-glasses/ Edited by rafire, Jun 12 2015, 04:31 PM.

Oh, yeh... if the paint is just starting to chip now (after more like 35 years-- sorry--bad math the first time), I can see why you'd think that. Did you run it through a dishwasher? I don't trust dishwashers. Also, I didn't mean to sound stern or angry or something-- sorry. |

Anyone can order a regular coffee mug with the SPP logo as it is Obselete/Abandoned. The glasses with billy bob and mitzi are copyrighted. |

As the writer says here, they normally notices that some paint has either chipped or faded. |

I've always been kind of sketchy about mugs and cups. I don't necessarily mean that I think they're fake, I just mean that it could break while being delivered to you. |

They're probably legit control tokens. Lots of arcades use them, including CEC. They are used by technicians and employees to test equipment and were painted to make sure they weren't counted when the game's earnings were tallied. If there were multiple stores in the area, each location would have a different color. |

I'm sure your right. But it does seem like the easiest Showbiz thing to counterfeit. Edited by Pixel, Jun 16 2015, 05:56 AM.

I don't think those mugs are fake. I collect vintage advertising drinkware and I have a set of McDonaldland glasses that are from 1977 and still look brand new. You just need to gently hand wash them and never put them in the dishwasher! |
