Anyone ever heard of this animatronic show entitled "Melody Farm Follies" at Storyland in New Hampshire? From what i know it has singing veggies, and some farm animals and stuff. Information will help!

I was JUST about to create a topic about this. I'm so glad I didn't... I just saw this show in person tonight. They also happen to travel around to fairs. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wepqIHgpeec - Does anyone know the manufacturer? I'm guessing it's Advanced Animations because they designed a larger show for Story Land with similar vegetable designs and they happen to use some of the same songs as Circus World Jamboree. |

I fear no animatronic, but those things... They unsettle me. Anyways, there are some differences between the Storyland one and the fair one (different cosmetics, etc.) |

I don't find them scary at all... in fact I grew up with this show. My problem is always that the audio isn't mixed right, so it sounds really scratchy. - The original traveling show had latex faces and different costumes for the broccoli and a completely different cow (not fiberglass) (video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9JrNGIUke8 -at the time, Story Land actually sponsored the traveling show). I remember that show had been around since about 2000/2001 (my first memories of it, at least) and they switched to fiberglass faces in 2008 (using the same whitewashed interior, but I think they removed the sponsorship...) and then completely re-did the set in 2010. |

Interesting... Anyways, that's just my personal opinion right there. In my eyes they kinda look a bit weird. Also, while you were there did you see any problems? |

The curtain (basically a vinyl sheet over a garage door) was a bit slow, but it might always be that way. And yeah, the main character's eyes are way too big, not to mention I have no idea what he's supposed to be... I always thought he was a pumpkin. The traveling show is more surreal than the one it's based off of (Farm Follies). Speaking of Farm Follies, check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ0fmg-yT1k&feature=youtu.be Edited by MrMouth, Sep 26 2015, 07:35 PM.

They never chose the farm life... the farm life chose them. |

I find them okay, but they look kinda strange when you see them for the first time :/ Strange is also that they use some songs of the Circus World Show XD |

The same guy writes for different animatronic shows, like Circus World Jamboree, Stew Leonard's, this show and even FAO Schwarz (the clock) and KB Toys (jack-in-the box). He also voices Peter Penguin and Mr. Pineapple for Melody Farms. If Advanced Animations built the FAO Schwarz clock and Circus World, I'm suspecting they also built Melody Farms seeing as they also built similar vegetables (and weeds) for a non-traveling show at Story Land. |

They look neat, but they don't have a lot movements or just very slow. I set the video to 2x speed and they look a lot better and more active. |

Ah yes, the slightly disturbing clock from FAO Schwarz. Dunno what happened to that guy. |

He was removed in 2004 when FAO Schwarz closed/remodeled and the face was later placed at the top of escalators a few years ago... the famous Fifth Avenue location closed recently, so there's no word as to if they'll bring him back when they relocate... Also NEW DISCOVERY: https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/molliestonesgoodtimejamb (Audio is VERY LOUD. Beware...) I've known for a while that a Californian grocery store called Mollie Stone's has an almost identical show at their San Francisco location... what I didn't know is that they released some of the songs on CD (including their version of the Melody Farms fanfare) which dates back to 1992... Hopefully, that gives us some insight into when the original MFF was built... I'm thinking it came after Mollie Stone's, but how soon after?

Upon further inspection of the CD cover: https://postimg.org/image/wnz89r7nh/ Manufacturer confirmed! I was in contact with the founder of Advanced and his wife as of a few weeks ago, and both told me that MFF predates both Mollie Stone's and Story Land's Farm Follies... they said the original travelling unit was built either for a grocery store in Oklahoma or for Gurnee Mills mall in Chicago (the man told me he's 78, so I wouldn't blame him if his memory is a bit off). Hopefully, this correspondence will lead to an exciting project that I can neither confirm nor deny is happening... ![]() |
