Hello gang, Ive been a lurker for a little while and I finally had news that I could post. I'm in IL and I have been trying to buy the New Rock-Afire Explosion set from Odyssey in Tinley Park for a couple of weeks. After some back and forth with questions they finally put a price on it. No they will not break up the show, that is what I first wanted them to do. I had no need for a giant TV prop and such. I just wanted the bots. Even broken I thought they would look cool in my family room. No the show does not work properly. If it did they would still be running it. So dont expect an easy fix. They have been slapping fixes on this show for years so if it was just something simple they would have done so. At first they were only looking for offers but they have finally put a price on it. I know there is a youtube video proclaiming this show is not for sale, but trust me it most definitely is. But it certainly is NOT worth what they are asking. It seems like they are pricing it based on what they spent to buy it 15 years ago from Aaron. I couldn't even imagine what it would cost to take down, fix, reassemble this show and I dont think this price includes the stage since they like to use that area for their princess meet and greets. But if anyone is looking to buy it it can be yours for $25K

We heard about it for a while now. I do agree the asking price is little high. However, it's not as common as the classic RAE. The maintenance cost is much higher. I greatly regret posting that the show was for sale. I guess the words got out all over the world. I thought about visiting to take hundreds of pictures before it was taken down. |

ConnorL, in all fairness I doubt they are trying to sell the show based on anything you have posted. I just sent them an email at random asking if the show in Tinely was back up and running. I saw all kinds of reports online saying they were going to recondition it. They immediately replied back that it wont be back up and its actually for sale. So I didn't even ask to buy it THEY tried seeing if I would buy it LOL. So nothing to regret... True its not as common as the classic show but I would think that most people looking for these things would rather have the Showbiz show and not a later rendition that very few people (by comparison) have seen. Yup, $25K is pretty steep for a broken show. Thats why I'm letting the cat out of the bag. I can see them asking $5K for it. I would have been a buyer around there. Maybe even $1K per bot so $7K. But I figured if anyone had the money, and the interest, I'd let the boards know it was in fact up for grabs. Edited by Grid, Nov 4 2015, 01:56 PM.

Ah interesting, it's really odd. I guess they really do want to sell the show. I asked them if their show was running, the same message as you sent. Haha They said they were going to fix it up, then 3 months later...out of the blue, they messaged me saying "The show is up for sale". To tell you the truth, the max offer I would give is about $12,000. Now we have to take the shipping into consideration. Brand new NRAE was originally $135,000 new if I remembered correctly and that was in 1990s currency. Which is about $160,000 today. I thought they had parts to rebuild them, I'll have to visit and see how bad the condition it is in. |

The show is only "rare" because all the other shows that were produced were junked years ago after they broke down too. What does that tell you?

I'm thinking any extra parts they had laying around would be kept for the working show in Naperville. I've seen their repair guy post online before about keeping that show running or replying to people on youtube when they would complain about the poor shape of the show. It seems like its still somewhat of a draw, at least in Naperville, but the entire Tinley Park complex is, for lack of a better word, sort of Ghetto. Thats probably why that show was left to rot. My math on the value ($5-$7K) wouldn't need to factor in labor or removal since I'm local, with a truck, and the means to pull it out myself. But I didn't even want to take a stab at it if they were expecting $25K. Part of me was hoping they would have just said take it all for a couple of grand, we don't want it anymore. If you were to pony up $12K they would be fools to walk away from that! |

I agree, the price as it sit isn't worth $25,000. If it was half that price, then it's more reasonable. |

If someone buys the show and gets the turntables and all the character movements working again I will eat my socks (with ketchup!).

Would you say the same if a 12 year old got a Mitzi running on Arduino? In that case I'd like to see the link to the video of you eating your socks. |

The band begins at ten to six When Mr. K. performs his tricks

The price should be less since to repair it your probably going to need to replace a lot of cylinders, tubing, cosmetics and electronics to get the turn tables, movements and cosmetics working and fixed the only plus I can think of adding is if they gave you everything the stage, bots, curtains, lights, compressor, extra bots and extra anything its not impossible to fix and not that expensive for certain pats as cylinders don't cost a fortune and some air compressors don't cost that much but with that price you would need to have the show sit for awhile so you could get the money to fix it |

Translation: Nobody wanted to buy it so this is our next best option. That actually makes a lot more sense considering there are probably only 4 or 5 total NRAEs left in the world. |

It is for sale. Not sure who you talked to a month ago but the person that I chatted with had to go back and forth with the owner on a price and how it was being sold. They confirmed all of this just 3 days ago. If you want to consider me a liar I don't care. I stand to gain zero from sharing this information, BUT if someone did have the money and want to buy this show I'm just letting other collectors and fans know of this opportunity. I only wanted to buy some parts to display and share a part of my childhood with my kids. Others take this hobby much more seriously than I ever could. Why would I make a user name to join these boards, upload a screen shot of them confirming its for sale and go through the trouble just to lie to a bunch of strangers? Here is most of my back and forth with them. On 2015-10-28 07:51, Dr. XXX wrote: I know both of your Tinley Park and Naperville locations had a Rock-afire Explosion show at one time. Apparently someone just called and they said the show was not for sale. This is a bigger controversy than I expected it to be. |

Whats the controversy? I put screen shots in this thread of them confirming its for sale. I copied and pasted days worth of emails from them saying it was for sale and for how much. The person I "chatted" with had to go back to the owner for answers. If someone called the number on their site and talked to a random person on the phone, that probably books children's parties, then perhaps they could have been told "No, not for sale" by an uninformed employee. I posted their contact email in here. If someone wants to email them and say they have $25K and wants to buy this show and THEN they were told its not for sale that might be controversial. Until then... I was told its for sale, by Odyssey Fun World (not by a guy who told a guy) and it costs $25K. ConnorL also said that he was told these were for sale. Just like anything in life you have to talk to the right person. When he posted in September that he was told its for sale people on these boards pounced on him looking for proof. He too posted a screen shot only to be told "it's easy to fake a message" by fellow members. Not sure what you guys that are saying Its Not for Sale are looking for.
