Hi everyone, I wanted to give you all an update on the 'Play Pass' rollout. Recently this week Burlington received an all new game package featuring games transferred from the Danvers location as well as some brand new ones. The games were installed last Thursday. Less than a week after this new package arrived, we received another shipment of large packages this morning. Filled with crates, electrical equipment, and new wi-fi routers. This was in fact the 'Play Pass' system setup equipment. The system will apparently be installed TOMORROW. Which puts us 4 weeks ahead of our original installation date. Now this is just installation, I am unsure if we are actually rolling out the cards this week. If we are I will let you all know. I know you MA fans will want to stop by to see how it works! |

So I wanted to give you all some updates on some new facts that I have learned on the PlayPass system. The system will start being used next Wednesday. - All games will still be 1 point - There will be bracelets available to put your cards on, HOWEVER they will need to be purchased. $1.00 for each bracelet - The PlayPass points for the Birthday Parties are slightly different: - 30 points for Star - 45 points for Super Star - Mega Super Star gets UNLIMITED PLAY for two hours. What that means is that from the first tap of your card to the time 2 hours is up, the kids will have unlimited play time and will not need to recharge their cards. |

Lowell MA (1-Stage) is getting the Play Pass as well. CEC and Rae Mass has photos of Lowell's on his Google+ page. Both of my local CEC locations are NOT getting it anytime soon. |

Oh man, if Unlimited Play Pass existed back when I was a kid, I would have had so much fun playing Skee-Ball and the arcade games (Pole Position, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, etc).

MOST games are 1 point. Not all are. There are a few newer games like the photo booth that cost 2 points. Also, if the store has bumper cars, a laser maze, or fun house, those will also cost between 2-4 points to play. |

Alrighty so Burlington is officially now using PlayPass for all of their games and rides. Today I was trained on how everything works so I want to go through all that I learned with you. Let me just say the new system is unlike how I thought it worked. And there are a lot of very cool features and options that you were unable to do before with just the tokens. * Let's start with the main green PlayPass kiosk: - As some of you may know, you can use Tokens to put points on your card. This process is FREE and you do not need to purchase a card before you try to insert tokens. - You now have the option to split your points into multiple cards, depending on how much you are purchasing. For example, if you are purchasing $10 in points, you have the option of splitting it into 2 cards. Or if you are purchasing $50, you have the choice to split it into up to 10 cards. - You can now also transfer points to another card as well. All you do is tap the card you are taking points from, punch in how many points you are taking away, and then it will add those points to the card of your choice. * The second kiosk is a Purple Registration kiosk. This is where you can register your card so that if your card is lost, stolen, or if you forget to bring it, the cast members can look it up and give you a new card with your existing points. You also receive 5 free points for doing this process. * Some games are still taking tokens (like Rubble Bubble, Birthday Party etc.) for this there are token kiosks as well as dispensers in the game itself. If you get tokens from a kiosk, it requires 5 points (5 points=5 tokens). If you get it from a game, it will only give you one. |

The real purpose of the Play Pass system is so that CEC can more easily adjust the price of games (via the computer panel) at key points during the day or week or month or whatever. They say as much in the investor update calls. They can also easily adjust how many points you get for your money in the first place. Basically they're increasing the profitability of the games since the games, Birthday packages, and the food are the only three areas where they make money. That's good for them, but not so good for the guests in the grand scheme of things. Oh well. Edited by PaulKTF, Jun 5 2016, 01:04 PM.

If you don't know, Lowell MA (1-Stage) also is getting it as well. CEC Mass of Google+ has pictures of Lowell's new Play Pass system. Big Cheese has video of the system. The Charlotte NC area uses it now (They started using it in 2015). When I went to Concord NC, they has the Play Pass system as well. |

Yes tokens are not completely out of existence. There are still games that will require tokens to play. They are also still being dispensed from those games as well as from special token kiosks throughout the store. Trust me there are still plenty of opportunities to find those rare coins, fact I found a 1988 one yesterday! And yes this is a big change, but a good change. There is SO MUCH that you can do with the play passes that you couldn't with just regular tokens! Here's a secret, did you know that we may start doing Half-Price Tuesdays? That means that all of the games will be HALF A TOKEN!! (0.5 points!) |
