Marineland is an amusement park in Niagara Falls Canada just a few minutes west of the falls. It opened in the 60's and quickly grew to popularity. It features seal and sea lion shows, a beluga whale tank and a orca whale tank. It also has an arcade, multiple rides, a drop tower, and a double looping coaster. If you live on Ontario or in Buffalo, you have probably even heard the "Everyone Loves Marineland" commercials. Well animal activists hate it, and it has endured multiple lawsuits in the last ten years. The most disturbing possibly is the concrete "bear pit" where you literally throw ice cream cones down into a concrete pit for the bears to eat. All that aside, in the 60's, 70's and 80's, nobody thought anything of it. In the late 70's, Marineland opened an Animatronic show called"Hot Air Fantasy". It involved characters in balloons above a pool, that contained live sea lions. At the pool edge were more characters, such as a penguin and a polar bear. Little is known about this show, except for a few photos on sp.com. Marineland has an annual hot air balloon event, so that pretty much takes over any Google search. The attraction closed in the 90's, and was Marineland's first lawsuit case because the sea Lion habitat behind the stage wasn't suitable for life. The only other image I have seen is an image in a souvenir book in a gift shop in Niagara Falls. I have seen footage, but it was clipped on to the end of a family's vhs home movie of marineland in the early 80's, so I don't have a link. You can also see a flash of the polar bear in a 1985 commercial, but I don't know which one. The building Is apparently still there, but it isn't on the park map. I don't know if Animatronics are still in there. Any more info on this elusive show would be greatly appreciated! |

Here's about 1 1/2 seconds of some panda bears in a hot air balloon; (Skip to 22 Seconds) Not sure if this was what you were referring to in the '85 commercial. |

I remember contacting the place a while ago and they didn't say much. But what I understood was that they do not have the animatronic characters anymore. I only asked what happened to those, so I don't know what is in the building nowadays :/ But the animatronics are not in the park anymore, sadly. It looked like a fun little show, and I kinda believe it was made by AVG or Advanced Animations just by the looks of it. (NOTE) On showbizpizza.com there is one picture showing 2 bears and a bird. Those were not part of the show. Those were actually a little show at one of the Flintstones theme parks. |

Yes, I'm aware the bears aren't part of the show. The company that owns a stake in marineland has a warehouse nearby that has some old items of their's in it. They also own alot in the nearby amusement area and have a ton of old mini golf statues and arcade machines stored in the warehouse. The Animatronics might be there. No, this isn't the commercial I was referring to, the one has a close-up of the bear. Good to see more footage though! Edited by PTT, Jun 18 2016, 10:15 AM.
