I really don't mind Star Wars as being an innovative movie of its time, but I think its really stupid for even die-hard fans to treat the series like its a Religion with having May 4th (obvious pun) be a star wars holiday. I would also think they're going a bit too far if they ever so much as create a "Star Wars-themed" Ten Commandments. |

Like it or not, Star Wars is a cultural landmark. Everyone recognizes it to some degree, making it a good means of marketing products and catching interest. Not religion, just consumerism. |

The only businesses I see celebrating it are doing it as a way to bring in extra business. Like, discounts on Star Wars merch and stuff. It makes sense, if the fans have a made-up holiday and are part of the customer base, it's a great marketing gimmick. |
