I thought this topic deserved its own thread. I just heard on the 1st Quarter conference call that 25 locations will be remodeled in between now and the first quarter of 2019. They didn't mention where the locations would be but I believe they will be "spread out" in different markets. Stores will be staying open during the remodeling process. So, you just might find your local CEC changing sometime in the next year.

I can't wait until the ancient stores that still have the Phase 3 elements (!) are finally remodeled! They look so dated and tired. |

Huntsville won't ever be on the list unless they can relocate the store or demolish it and build a new one in the place. Corporate does not want to install 2.0 in any stores before 1990 which means all SPPs and PTTs. The live stage is very heavy and puts lots of stress on the ceiling. Stores that old aren't as strong as they used to be. I believe those are most of the targeted stores. Edited by CECArizona, May 10 2018, 08:59 PM.

Enough. You have been asking the same thing for the 3 years you were on this website. Edited by CECArizona, May 10 2018, 11:02 PM.

(replying to whoever mentioned Natick) Sadly, Natick is not a high volume store. They would definitely look into Lowell or Everett before Natick, as they are the more profitable stores2.0 was just introduced last year. It IS possible Middletown may get it, as it is a pretty profitable store. But the issue with that would be that NY already has some stores with the newer setup. Guys, every store is going to get remodeled at some point- either to 2.0, or to something similar to it that they haven't fully developed yet. Stores don't stay frozen in an old design forever (even though it might seem like it). It's just a matter of time at this point. I would not be surprised to see every store remodeled withn about 5 years. Look for a lot more closings in that time period too. |

Unfortunately. I don't think any store is really "safe" at tis point. So my advice is to go to your favorite CEC locations as often as you can and have fun.

I both agree and disagree. It's sad to see my childhood, aka Avenger Chuck go away entirely, but I do think it's necessary. When Avenger CEC remains in a store, it just looks dated and in all honesty, confusing. It might be the artist in me, but when I look one way and see 90's/00's wall art, then turn and see 2017 art, it just messes with my mind. Also, I speak from experience, kids don't even recognize Avenger Chuck anymore, instead asking "who's that?" Now, for the shows going away. As much as I hate to say this, it's time for MMBB to go away. Most of the time the show isn't well maintained and overall looks dirty. I'm not saying that's the case for every stage, but when Chuck looks like a limp, broken rag doll than a live character *cough cough* Tallahassee *cough cough*, it's time to go. |

I understand if you grew up with Phase 3 and a 2-stage (or whatever) and are sad to see it go, but man... those stores haven't been touched in like 20 years.... It's time for a change. The one thing I still really like about Phase 3 are the parody posters- I still think those are really funny. ![]() The shelves on either side of the stage (the ones that are high up) sort of look like they were decorated with "found junk" from a thrift store. It just looks weird... Edited by PaulKTF, May 11 2018, 07:36 PM.

I like Phase 3's design, its's calming. I hope Paducah's not on the list. |

It's the same building as when it was a Showbiz, yes. Boy I hope so, but I'm not going to hold my breath. La Crosse would probably be the one I'd pick for remodeling in Wisconsin. Edited by PaulKTF, May 12 2018, 12:16 AM.

So what if his viewpoints don't represent everyone in the fandom? He has every right to have his own opinion. It's perfectly fine to disagree with his opinions, but just because his viewpoints greatly contrast with your own doesn't give him any right to be silenced in any manner. He views this situation from a business aspect, which is perfectly fine. You view it from a fanboy aspect, which is perfectly fine. This website's a forum, a place to discuss news and other topics revolving around a main subject. A good discussion usually involves differing opinions contrasting each other, while maintaining a respectful mood. Yes, you mind find this hypocritical as I've said this website revolves around a main subject. "Studio Stage, this is an ANIMATRONIC board, if he hates animatronics, why should he even be here!?" This happens to be a Chuck E. Cheese subforum, a section of the site where discussion is not just limited to animatronics. Other company news and information can be discussed. _____________________________________________________________________ Anyway, my own stance on the 2.0 remodels, is I'm at least kind of relieved they have a set amount of locations to remodel this year (Kind of takes away a little bit of the edge of never knowing what'll be remodeled, and what won't). Though I am very disappointed by the cutting back on certain 2.0 aspects. Removing the unique exterior and open kitchen (Two of the better parts of 2.0), while keeping the worst part, the animatronic removal with a dance floor just feels like the typical results of this company's experiment. They try something new and bold, but it's always too expensive, so they end up cutting down the experiment so it's cheaper, resulting in an experience far worse from the original concept. The same happened to Studio C over the span of several years, and I imagine 2.0 will very likely go down the same slope, evolving into just a cheap way to gut the show, with maybe a few decorated walls and fancier floor/booths. Pathetic, 2.0 at best had some impressive architecture to it (For CEC standards). I wouldn't hold my breath on that idea, history shows this company can barely sustain an idea for a good several years. Studio C is really the prime example of such a drastic change and remodel, that was meant to be represent the next generation of the company, yet here we are over 20 years later, and Rockford still has their Rocker Stage, we still have at least 150 or so full animatronic stages, and locations that haven't been remodeled in over 15-20 years. 5 years is just too short of a time, I'd give it more like a decade to see how things would go. CEC is still dipping their toes in the water with the 2.0 remodels, to see what they can and can't get away with (otherwise known as the classic Chuck E. inconsistency, although in this scenario it is somewhat understandable). Expect a lot of relocations, closings, and stores completely being rebuilt within the next few years if 2.0 continues to expand; a lot of the stores in the company are buildings with old structures or outdated architecture that can't translate into the design they're currently aiming for. |
